Don't be Afraid of the Dark It's actually quite creepy, don't the let some of the bad reviews put you off. I'm normally OK with horror/suspense flicks but it really did have me creeped out. Although I would always suggest you watch the 70's original which I saw when I was a kid, scared the bejesus out of me. Captain America I actually saw it at the flix the first time and came away quite unimpressed. I thought that my negative reaction could have been down to all the shit that was going on in my life at the time and the fact I went with someone who spent the entire evening moaning so I gave it another go. I still think the same thing. Problem with Cpt.America is that it starts out well, gives a very detailed intro to Steve Rogers and how they choose him for the project and they build up all this nice back story with Red Skull and tie in the cosmic cube revealed at the end of Thor but then it goes into dumb action movie. Now, I like dumb action movies but this was spoiled by the fact that Hydra apparently also had a time machine; using the Tesseract as a power source in the 40's was cool but it didn't give them the ability to make weapons that were from the 21st Century. I think if they'd kept everything grounded in 1940's style and just made the Nazi MP-40's fire blue bullets I might have been more inclined to enjoy it but when it starts to look the Doom I tuned out. Although I did like the end when he wakes up in modern Manhattan and I still like the little avengers reveal at the end.
No Escape I remember watching it years ago, and I caught it again recently on cable. It's rather good for a low budget action movie. Sort of a prison movie mixed with Mad Max. Tbh, I don't understand why Ray Liotta didn't become a bigger star. He's a good actor in the movies I've seen him in, but he never did much other than Goodfellas.
Hall Pass Jenna Fischer (the cute receptionist in the office) plays some 40yr old house wife. basically she doesn't pull it off, she still looks WAY too young for that. Cute receptionist. That's all. I mean I hate to typecast somebody but that's REALLY all she should do. The flabby skin body suite they made here wear really looked gross like Nutty Professor 2 style gross just not meant to be funny, it was just embarrising. Now Jenny McCarthy, SHE could play a rather stunning 40-something quite well... at least from a physical perspective. Pirates 4 ppl say the 2nd and 3rd ones sucked... I rather liked em! But this one... was it released in theaters? Hoping it went straight to video... or hollywood is REALLY lowering their standards on what hits theaters and what doesn't. To be specific it uses EVERY clichee in the book! I bet 12 yr olds would love it!! Not anybody with half a brain though.
I watched Captain America last night and had the same reaction. The intro was decent enough and building up the characters, setting and plot, but it was all voided by the action. The futuristic weaponry made it even worse. They should have kept all the technology more grounded to the time, at least in design if not functionality. The bikes the Hydra chased him on through the forest were more grounded, they had a very 1940's look to them. The tanks, guns and just the bases in general, did not. I found this really crapped all over the establishment of the setting the first half of the film worked so hard on. The movie really dived when they had that killing montage where it just showed scenes of them busting into rooms and shooting. It reminded me of a movie I re-watched the other week, Tombstone. Good establishment of characters, plot and setting, then when it gets to the real action they just have some cheesy montage of them chasing people on horses and killing them to music that really doesn't fit. Then they try to slow the pace back down and get all emotional again. Exact same thing with Captain America...
What body suit? You know she just had two kids right? She was probably pregnant while they were filming.
So I watched Retreat. It was quite a silly movie. The whole movie was silly throughout.. but the ending was the silliest. If I were to sum up this movie in one word -- Silly. Hell, even CILLIan Murphy is in it.
Point of No Return Screw the haters. I know it's a remake, but I think it's actually quite a bit better than the original French film, La Femme Nikita. Harvey Keitel is awesome as the cleaner.
Oh yes, I also watched Trespass. I never wished death upon a family before but I guess there's always a first. And why does every group that pulls a robbery always bring a girl that flips out all the time? I also watched Super 8 and I really liked that movie. Especially when they showed the amateur zombie movie they were filming during the end credits.
I haven't seen it. Any good? There was another Nikita TV series on USA back in the 90s, but I remember it being kind of cheesy and lame.
I've only watched like 15min of one episode and didn't really know what was going on so I can't say much. I'd probably call it a must watch if it was soft porn like Tudors or something.
The new Nikita is so-so. I watch the first 2 episodes, it's watchable if you are bored or have it on Netflix. Nothing to go out of your way for.
Village of the Damned Superman and Luke Skywalker team up to overact and battle retardo kids with white hair and glowing eyes that talk like robots. This movie was so bad it was hilarious. Higher Learning It's a movie about the evils of racism and stereotypes where all of the characters are one-dimensional racist caricatures, defeating any point the movie was trying to make and leading to some unintentional hilarity. Busta Rhymes was about the least believable college student ever. The only good part of the movie was when Tyra Banks got shot, because she's annoying as hell on Top Model and that horrible talk show of hers.
Open Water 2 Some Darwin Award winners forget to drop a ladder when getting off their boat and can't get back on. It was hard to care about them all dying because they were retards in the first place and the gene pool is better off without them. At least in the first movie, it wasn't their fault they got left behind so you could sympathize.
Red Dog I saw this at a local film festival. It's an Australian movie that evidently is a huge hit over there. The characters tell a variety of stories to a traveler about the community dog, which is ill and is near the end of its life. The tone of the flashback stories is generally geared towards comedy with quite a bit of sentimentality. It's not typically the type of thing I get into, but it worked reasonably well. The crowd loved it, and it won the audience award of the film festival. It's quite an accomplishment to get me to enjoy a rather sappy movie. Most of the movies I prefer to watch are quite morbid and dark. It helps that it's about a dog, I guess. I've always been a dog person.
The Lincoln Lawyer Good movie but a few unexplained weak spots. Fern Gully Total rip off of Avatar. Someone should sue.
The Change Up It was pretty funny despite a really cliche premise. Also Olivia Wilde is hot and she gets naked.
