Last movie you saw?

  1. Awake

It was one of the cheesier thrillers I've seen. That kid from the Star Wars prequels can't act worth a crap. I lol'ed hard when the surgeons were like "let's kill this guy and go get some martinis!"

  2. Another Earth

It failed as a sci-fi movie, but succeeded as a serious drama. The blonde in it was kind of hot despite their attempts to make her look depressed and frumpy.

  3. Push

This was utter tripe. I was expecting it to be as fun as Jump but it was not. It bored me to tears.

    I am legend

I cannot think of any new or old films I have not seen yet that I would enjoy, so I thought I would watch this as its been years. Still a great film.

  4. The Ides of March

Ryan Gosling is a pretty good actor, but the movie was kind of dull. It took too long to really get going.

  5. The Artist

I watched The Artist yesterday afternoon, and I must say it is easily the best movie I've seen so far from 2011. It does not have great mainstream appeal, and familiarity with silent films is required to fully appreciate the artistry, but for those who would appreciate silent films should definitely see it. The story is set just before the migration from silent film to "talkies" and the impact this had on the filmmakers of that time. They went to great lengths to utilize the style and tone of classic silent dramas. The direction, acting, and cinematograpy are all superb. I plan on watching this again and would not mind seeing this win the Best Picture Oscar, although I admittedly haven't yet seen all of the nominees yet.

On a side note, how lucky is the director, Michel Hazanavicius, to make awesome movies like this and have the female lead of The Artist, gorgeous Argentinian actress Bérénice Bejo, who is fantastic in this role, as his wife?

    Lucky bastard.

  6. But... I'm not 88 years old!

  7. It's already won 4 critics choice awards and last night it won 3 golden globes.

  8. Drive was the only movie I've seen this year that I thought was Oscar worthy.

  9. I'm not surprised. I usually follow movies closely, but last year I was writing a certain 147-page paper that kept me somewhat out of touch with the world. But I knew as soon as I watched it that it was going to get a lot of critical praise. It's terrific.

  10. Drive and Tree of Life are the movies I hope to see next. I've read that Drive is fantastic.

  11. The one caveat with Drive is that it's ridiculously, over the top violent. And not in a fun, cartoonish way either. There's a curb stomping scene that makes the one in American History X look tame by comparison.

  12. Many of my favorite movies have been quite dark. Lilja 4-ever, for example, is a Swedish movie that put me in such a rage that I wanted to reach through the television and strangle a couple of the characters, but I still greatly appreciate the power of the movie and list it among my favorite (favorite as in most impressive, not in the sense that I'd watch it over and over) films. It would be very unusual for dark content to prevent me from appreciating it. I'll check it out soon.

  13. Watched Johnny English: Reborn earlier. It was okay and was just as silly as the original.

  14. What's your number

Anna Faris was super hot in this. But it wasn't that funny or that great of a movie.

  15. The Debt

It was much better than I expected. It was very suspenseful and Helen Mirren was good in her role.

  16. Tinker tailor soldier spy

It was boring, dreary, and very British. The pacing was terrible. It was like watching paint dry.

  17. I thought it was pretty good.

  18. I watched it with three other people and they all fell asleep. My father in law snored loudly through most of it which made me laugh.

  19. Not enough Baysplosions I tells ya.

  20. It was just a tedious, overly convoluted mess of a movie with one-dimensional characters and terrible editing. If you like watching people drone on endlessly with thick British accents in dreary, run down rooms, this is your movie. No need to accuse me of liking Transformers. It was just a bad movie. It was two hours of nothing happening with about five minutes of action. Really lame as spy movies go.

I expected The Debt to be mediocre and Tinker to be great. The Debt ended up being the much better spy movie.
