  1. Sanctum

I kept waiting for a monster but it never came. Good movie anyway.

  2. The Ides of March

So very boring. I fell asleep.

  3. me too, if I watch something subbed I usually only get half the action and sometimes totally miss the point!! lol it is kinda funny though. When I first saw Evangelion I thought the exact OPPOSITE was happinin and was rootin for the bad guys. It actually makes more sense if you do that, I think.

  4. You didn't miss much.

  5. Tropic Thunder:

It was on over the weekend and after seeing some of you chaps saying it was OK I gave it a go. Pretty entertaining, Robert Downey Jnr was probably the best part of the film. Have never thought Ben Stiller was funny and this movie didn't change my opinion of him, he always plays the same idiots.

  6. Ben Stiller is an assclown, but Tropic Thunder is still pretty good despite him.

  7. Didn't they make that Full retard movie in the end?

  8. No. But I Am Sam, and lots of other Hollywood Oscar bait shitfests are pretty much the same thing as Simple Jack.

  9. Tropic thunder us one of the best movies of all time.

  10. Has anyone seen the trailers for Act of Valor? It looks like a modern day version of a Leni Riefenstahl film, or like they made a real life version of Nation's Pride from Inglourious Basterds. Really sickening jingoistic stuff. It's disgusting how fascist the US is becoming.

  11. Senna 8/10

This was a superb documentary released in 2010 about F1 champ Ayrton Senna. You do not need to be an F1 fanatic to appreciate it. It's very well done, and the rivalry between weasel rival Alain Prost and Senna provides built-in drama to spice things up. I'd recommend it to anyone, really. The footage near the end in particular was extremely powerful and moving.

  12. Whatever happened to classified? Why advertise training and tactics using active navy seals during a seemingly endless war.

    Stupid.

  13. True Grit

    Good movie

  14. I always see the new version on my netflix list. I've seen the john wayne version on tv before, thought it was pretty good.

  15. I've seen both. John Wayne did a better job with the character, but the remake is better overall.

  16. I haven't seen Chaser, but I have seen and liked The Man From Nowhere.

  17. I got a hold of the Blu-ray of Blue Velvet per AKS's suggestion and will give it a watch soon.

Roger Ebert gave it one star, which means I'll probably love it considering he's a hack with no taste who didn't even like Fight Club.

  18. It was a very controversial film for its time, and I totally disagree with Ebert's take on it. However, you might have a bad initial reaction to it and just turn it off if you don't understand the basic premise.

Avoiding any specific spoilers and sticking with very broad themes, it begins as a simple mystery plot set in an idyllic Mayberry type of community. People from the "Greatest Generation" love to fantasize that everything was so perfect in times past, but the characters quickly begin to uncover the dark secrets underneath the beautiful exterior. Lynch basically lets the characters uncover taboo subjects that probably gave film critics of the time heart attacks. It had to be a very "hard R" rating for the time. It's very heavy on symbolism presented in imagery and dialogue. I had to watch it more than once to completely understand it because I had no idea what to expect. On the upside, even people who despised it tend to be impressed with Dennis Hopper's Frank Booth, who is one of cinema's greatest villains of all-time and is truly a demented psychopath. It's also a work of art in terms of cinematography, music, and direction, and some of the scenes are among the most memorable in cinema history. Lynch stated that he took pay cuts to avoid compromises in his vision.

I loved how angry it made Ebert, and I hope it freaked out the Academy just as much. They gave it just one nomination just as they did with Drive, which is laughable considering Blue Velvet had perhaps the most stunning combination of cinematography, direction, and use of music of the era.

  19. Blue Velvet

It was one of the better thrillers I've seen. Dennis Hopper gave an epic performance. I liked the contrast of the idyllic suburban setting with all of the sleaziness in the later parts of the film. The trashiness of the S&M stuff was very entertaining, and I kept laughing at Frank Booth's bizarre and creepy sex routine. It had excellent cinematography and music. The only criticism I have is that the blonde chick from Jurassic Park is not a good actress. Her parts really stand out from the rest of the film and she was badly miscast. Overall though, it was a great film.

  20. I find that David Lynch films are hit or miss with some people. I tend to like most of his stuff with the exception of Dune.
