Last movie you saw?

  1. That's almost always the best option, but I wanted to also warn you that the original translation and dub were not great and were reworked in the Blu-ray. The audio quality of the Blu-ray is superb. It's a 50 GB disc with 192 kHz/24-bit audio.

  2. The Avengers

Saw this at the IMAX on Thursday. Was so impressed I went back to the cinema the following day to watch it in regular 2D because my IMAX is sold out for days.

I seriously didn't think you could squeeze that much action into a movie. It's paced perfectly and any lengthy sections where they're talking nearly always pay off with an action scene. I'm still super impressed by seeing Hulk vs Thor - mind was totally blown. If you can see it at the IMAX I would definately see it there it looks fantastic. Also, if you know your comics you will shit a fucking brick when you see who is in the little 2 minute post credit sequence.

  3. Air Force One

This was an amazingly terrible movie given the caliber of the people involved. Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman in the same movie with the director of Das Boot? You had me at hello. So why did it have to have ridiculously terrible special effects, laughable dialogue, and a totally implausible premise?

  4. R.E Akira. You really should give it a watch. Even if you don't like it you can add it to the plethora of shit films you've seen.

  5. The Avengers Assemble

I wouldn't have watched this if it hadn't been my mates birthday, he's into his comic book stuff. I like ironman but don't care about the hulk, captain America or the rest, but it was entertaining. To be fair it was fun watching these absolute powerhouses duke it out with near invincible enemies. I felt the film was a bit too long at around 2 and a half hours but that might have been because my knee started to hurt 45 minutes from the end. If you like seeing massively hench characters duke it out with god like aliens then it's a good action film, if you're after something with much more depth you might want to avoid it.

  6. Although I'm not into my comics I know a little bit, I had no idea who that hell boy looking dude was.

  7. There is actually an animated movie about this. Hulk vs Thor/Wolerine. It's pretty good.

  8. Wicked (musical)

I thought it was really good. If you like the Wizard of Oz you'll probably like this. If you don't like the Wizard of Oz then you might still like this.

  9. Straight men shouldn't be watching Wicked unless they're getting a BJ out of it.

  10. Three Musketeers (2011)

Movie reminds me why only 8-year olds like this stuff. It's just so ideal and utopian that it just screams IMPOSSIBLE over-exaggerated chivalry ftl.

    The Sitter

Somebody enjoyed 'Are we there yet?' and decided to make a slightly more adult, grittier flavor. I enjoy that sort of naive fair, but placing the styles of Jonah Hill in it was simply irrelivant. IE it felt like a clone. It had a styl though, so not a complete waste, just... not a great or even too good of a movie.

  11. A-Team

I enjoyed it. Lots of action, lots of fun.

  12. Antitrust

Tim Robbins does a bad caricature of Bill Gates. None of the technology in the movie makes any sense, because the movie was apparently put together by someone with no understanding of how computers work or what they actually do. Imagine if your mom made a movie about computers, and you get the idea. Also, the twists were dumb.

    This Means War

A travesty, even by very low chick flick standards. And it was trying to do that combination chick flick/action movie thing that never works. Why am I not surprised McDouchebag directed it? Also, why would two guys fight over ugly ass Reese Witherspoon? Seriously, woof.

    They Live

On the one hand it's a cheesy, over the top 80s action movie with aliens starring a pro wrestler. On the other, it's a satire about plutocracy, materialism, and brainwashing. Pretty awesome all around.

    Escape From New York

The premise is ridiculous, but Kurt Russell and Chef from South Park somehow make it work. Really suspenseful and over the top in a good way. Metal Gear is a complete ripoff of this movie and its Snake Plissken character.

  13. I wouldn't call it a ripoff considering that they were pretty open about the influence of the movie. Snake even used the codename "Iroquois Pliskin" in MGS2. "Iroquois" translated means "black snake."

  14. So I just watched Chronicle and I can repeat every single line in the movie perfectly. "ANDREW LISTEN TO ME!" and "STOP TELLING ME WHAT TO DO!!"

very similar to to akira where all you hear is some douchebag constantly calling out the country Canada.

  15. Pretty much my take on it. The kids in the movie were douchebags, which made it hard to care about anything that was going on.

I tried to watch Akira and ended up turning it off half way through because I was so annoyed with it. It had annoying characters and dreadful voice acting, with people constantly screaming each others names at the top of their lungs for some unknown reason. The kids constantly screaming "Canada" was giving me a damn headache. I actually kind of liked the post apocalyptic setting and some of the art direction, but they had to ruin it by being all lame and Japanese about it. I stand by watch I've always said about anime, which is that it sucks, and the only people who watch it are manchildren obsessed with Japan.

  16. Bad Lieutenant

This is an incredibly bleak movie about a corrupt cop finding redemption. The lieutenant is a degenerate gambler and drug addict who steals from crime scenes, bangs prostitutes, and takes advantage of underage girls, all while shooting, snorting, and smoking every drug known to man, with all of this shown in lurid detail. At least at the beginning of the film, there seems to be nothing redeeming about him, but he undergoes a dramatic transformation that's handled in a believable fashion. Harvey Keitel gives what's probably his best performance ever. This guy is an amazingly gifted actor who I wish Scorsese and Tarantino had taken more seriously. He mostly just gets cameo parts in their movies. The film is totally uncompromising. It has sort of a gritty 70's Scorsese feel to it. I liked it, but I think some people may be put off by just how graphic it is. There's a scene where the lieutenant jerks off in front of two teenage girls he just pulled over for a traffic stop that's one of the more disturbing things I've seen. It's NC-17 and it totally earns that rating.

  17. Todays anime doesn't quite 'suck'... 95% of it does ofc... unless your just a fan, but if you wanna take the bitchy supremist stance than yeah, your gonna be disappointed 95% of the time so perhaps it's best if you stay locked in your little hollywood box.

But yeah... if you can't stand dealing with other ppl's drama you'd best not touch any of the old stuff at all. It's just central in Japanese economy. Think of 80s anime as like 80s movies. Most, 99%, of them are mediocre to suck. Anime from the later half of the 90s (just after Akira) to current (well, really 2009... I can't suggest anything from the last 3 years...), ever since Japan has decided to recognize the rest of the world, has been like I said, on the bright side of mediocre.

I don't want to say 'to understand anime is to understand japanese culture, if you only want to ignore it than your just ignorant' but yeah. If you understood the fundamentals of Japanese culture you'd understand anime (and Japanese games). Until the 90s (Cowboy Bebop) they really didn't write anything 'with a western influence'.

If you don't like it then you don't like it I don't blame you. But you really seem like a bigot when you say it all sucks. It's basically racist. I doubt you'd enjoy yourself if you lived in Japan either. When you get over culture shock maybe you'll see that the remaining 95% of it (from 95-2009) is really quite average. Since you seem to be fine with wading through the mud to find the gems (or the REALLY crappy ones) I really think you'd find it better than just 'sucks'.

I'd feel the same way about K-drama, most of them suck, but even the sucky ones are relatively interesting if you can connect with the characters some way. It's obvious that right now you can't connect with these 'Japanesey' media at all. And that's fine, that just makes you a red-blooded American as they say...

  18. I don't get it though. He's so used to watching shit I'm surprised he can still determine when he's watching it.

  19. American Reunion

I went in thinking this film was going to be shit but it was pretty funny actually. Much funnier than AP3 but obviously not as good as 1 or 2. Me and my mate were chuckling pretty consistently throughout and we enjoyed it despite having the worst seats I've ever had at the cinema. Second row from the front to the far left, a couple of seats from the wall. First time I've not bought the tickets in advance for ages and no doubt the last.

  20. i watch a lot of asian movies but even I have a hard time watching anime. I watched a bunch back in the day.. seriously giving it a try. probably hit around twenty something different titles until I called it quits. The only title I genuinely liked was gunbuster. nadesico, berserk, and now and then, here and there were also amusing.

The rest.. i didn't see the hype. After watching neon genesis evangelion, i wanted to rip off the head of he man that created that series.
