Last movie you saw?

  1. When your woman gets out of line and forgets who's really in charge, just recite some lines from Respect the Cock.

  2. It's hilarious that there were interviews done a few years after that movie where he acted exactly like he did in the interview his character experienced in magnolia. The movie itself gives me a freaking headache at the ending. The whole building tension thing that Paul Thomas Anderson does is very effective but it has too strong of an actual effect on me in most of his movies, Magnolia in particular.

  3. Brazil

A dystopian future sci-fi with so much cheesy 80's stuff it's just hilarious for the most part. It's also very well done at the same time. The depiction of future society through the main characters mother and her friends is hilariously decadent. The way everyone just tries to move on and ignore the terrorist attacks and accepts the terrorist man hunt undertaken by the government is a haunting mirror of today or where we could end up. Some of the final scenes are really surreal and quite well shot, particularly the where the interrogation is done which seems to be inside a unused smoke stack. It was hard to get past the 80's cheese even though that kind of stuff makes me feel very nostalgic, but after the boring first section this turned out to be a fairly decent movie.

  4. Agreed. Magnolia was a great film, but I doubt it's something I'll sit down and watch again all the way through as it was three hours long and really involved.

And I also just watched Brazil a few nights ago and had similar feelings. I liked how it was basically Monty Python crossed with George Orwell, and for the most part it works even though it doesn't seem like it would. The 80s cheese is a bit overwhelming at times though. It was also cool to see Robert Deniro at the peak of his career in a the kind of film where you probably wouldn't be expecting to see him.

  5. Old Boy

I'd seen the end of this film before and decided to give it a go last night. It was entertaining enough. A bit random in places and there were some fucked up scenes. Also Old Boy seemed like a complete twat most of the time but I guess that's what happens when you're locked away for 15 years without explanation. Worth a look.

  6. Why did you watch the ending first? That had to lessen the impact quite a bit. The entire movie focuses on the mystery of why he was locked up and who locked him up, and you already knew the entire time.

  7. The scene in the hallway is one of the greatest fight scenes of all time. I love the way it's filmed with no cuts.

It sucks that you ruined the twist for yourself, as it's quite bizarre and sickening if you're not expecting it.

OldBoy is a great film. I actually hope they don't make some shitty Americanized version of it as they'll just screw it up and probably cast Ryan Reynolds or some other asshat in the lead.

  8. For me, the best single shot fight sequence was in Tom Yum Goong (international title was The Protector) when he starts up the stairs in the restaurant.

The behind the scenes for that part was interesting, and he almost passed out by the time he finished the cut.

  9. wow and where did he keep the orphens at? Dude seemed to be housing every human attrocity thinkable. That's a baaaad dude.

  10. One of my favorite things about the Oldboy fight is how the mob gradually begins to get worn down and injured. They start getting desperate and throw bits of the broken board from the ground and whatnot. In a typical action movie, the "hero" strikes the generic underlings once or twice and they are KOed for the rest of the scene.

  11. The fight in the office building is really well done too. I love how there's almost no sound after the main henchman gets stabbed in the ear, just music.

OldBoy is such a great film. I'm going to have to dig out my DVD and watch it again.

  12. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Most of it was extremely disturbing, but there was also some very dark humor, like this:

Henry was played by the same guy who plays Merle on the Walking Dead.

This is a well made and extremely brutal film. It's loosely based on real events surrounding serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. The violence is so extreme that it couldn't successfully be cut to achieve an R rating, so it was released unrated. But originally it was rated X and was kept out of theaters for four years. If you want to see an uncompromising character study of a serial killer that doesn't sugar coat anything, this is your movie.

  13. No I just saw him cutting off his toungue and the part at the end in the snow, and that was like 5 or more years ago. I just remembered the name.

  14. You watch some random films. Films that go on about respecting cock and killing TV salesmen. Interesting, but random as fuck.

  15. I'll give almost anything with good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB that looks interesting a try. The result is that I run across some strange films.

  16. I saw that movie a few months ago on netflix. I thought that in some ways it seemed low budget, but on the other had the dark elements were very creepy. The roommate was more frightening than Henry. I thought it was worth watching overall.

  17. Henry was at least somewhat organized about the killing. He knew that certain people were off limits and that you couldn't follow a pattern or you'd probably be caught. It was also more understandable with him because of the abuse he suffered as a child. His roommate was an out of control idiotic rapist scumbag who was invariably going to end up dead or caught after doing something stupid.

  18. Brave

Just took my daughter to see it, as usual pixar's animation was fantastic.

  19. The Five Year Engagement

I got lucky after watching this chick flick, so I can't fault it too much. What I will say is that Alison Brie can't pull off an English accent to save her life. It was so awful and distracting.

Also, I'm still undecided on Emily Blunt. Sometimes she looks incredibly hot, and sometimes she looks really average.

  20. Just saw The Expendables 2. It was awesome. If you're looking for a fine piece of cinematic art look elsewhere. If you're looking for a balls to the wall action packed homage to 80's kill fests you'll want to see this. There was some cgi was pretty bad but they must have spent the budget on the cast. I laughed a few times too, especially when Willis and Arnie started quoting each others famous lines.

Mindless violence but great fun, I recommend.
