Last movie you saw?

  1. Leaving Las Vegas

Proof that Nick Cage can act, he just chooses not to for whatever reason. In fact, this was probably the most accurate portrayal of alcoholism that I've seen in a Hollywood film. I don't know if you've ever seen an alcoholic coming off of a bender, but they look just like Cage at the end of this film. Alcohol has some of the nastiest addiction and withdrawal of any drug, and it's legal.

  2. He was especially good in Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona, and Adaptation. He could have been one of the top actors if he applied himself. Something bizarre is going on with his personality.

  3. He was also pretty good in Lord of War.

I think he has a lot of talent, but he picks shitty roles that are below him and doesn't apply himself. Something's definitely not right with him. The guy has an Oscar and is related to Francis Ford Coppola. I have no idea what he's doing in some of the shit he stars in.

  4. I was just on imdb and was confronted with the poster for the new Nic Cage movie 'Stolen'. I'm not sure how they thought they could just blatantly rip off Taken that badly then not even come up with a name that's even slightly different. But wait, he's a former thief! That's the opposite of Taken!

  5. He's basically competing with Steven Seagal at this point.

  6. Nick Cage has had some serious financial problems (owing the IRS $14 million for starters...still owes about $8 million of that), so that probably plays a major part in his willingness to star in crappy movies.

  7. Snow White and the Huntsman

They were clearly trying to do a Game of Thrones style dark fantasy thing, but the whole movie gets dragged down by the charisma black hole known as Kristen Stewart.

    Training Day

I love this movie. Denzel is epic in his corrupt cop role. So many awesome and hilarious quotes.

  8. Prometheus

Certain aspects of this movie were good. It had very high production values, and a lot of the design reminded me of the Mass Effect games. David the android was an interesting character. And it had a few genuinely suspenseful moments, like when the Swedish chick is trapped in the automated surgical unit with the alien offspring. In fact, that scene was really memorable, and felt like it deserved to be part of a better horror film.

But unfortunately this movie had a lot of absolutely terrible writing, massive plotholes, absurd and contrived situations, and unlikable, idiotic characters whose motivations didn't make any sense and/or weren't really explained. It was written by the same dipshit who wrote LOST, so I guess that's to be expected. And all of this crap kind of overshadowed the good things about the movie.

I wouldn't put this quite down there that AVP garbage, but it wasn't really what I would call a good movie either. It was about on par with Alien 3 or 4. Also, anyone saying it's not an Alien prequel and that it shouldn't be judged as one is being disingenuous. There's a damn xenomorph in the final scene. This was an Alien prequel, just not a very good one.

    5/10

  9. It's a prequel, but it's one that doesn't stay consistent with what we see at the beginning of Alien. The scene in Alien where you see the space jockey at the controls.. as you can see with the events in Prometheus, doesn't match up.

  10. I don't think the planet in the film was supposed to be LV 426, but yeah there were some things that weren't consistent.

My expectations for Prometheus were probably too high, as Alien and Aliens are two of my favorite films. As a standalone sci-fi movie, it was alright I guess, but as an Alien prequel it sucked.

  11. Didn't realize Michael Clarke Duncan died. He was really good in the Green Mile, and he had smaller parts in a lot of films like Sin City.

  12. I just watched The Tall Man with jessica biel. This actually turned out to be a meaningful movie but it throws curveballs when it shouldn't. I sells itself as a possible horror/suspense movie at the beginning, but that's very much what it isn't. I put this movie in the same vain as The Intruders. blaaa.

  13. The Grey

    WTF Ending

A very Harold and Kumar Christmas

It was stupid but it was supposed to be stupid so maybe it was good.

  14. I actually felt the same about this film as you funnily enough. After waiting months to see it I finally got the chance the other night. I enjoyed it but it wasn't as great as I had thought it was going to be.

They said it wasn't connected to Alien except that it was the same universe but that was a Xenomorth right at the end.

  15. Heavy Metal

I saw a South Park episode parodying this a couple of years ago and came across this on netflix. One of the most random films I've ever seen. There didn't really seem to even be a plot, just 4 or 5 mini stories all tenuously linked by some sentient green ball. Still, it was a visually interesting film with various styles of animation.

It did have good tits though so there's that, and John Candy.

  16. well the events that played out in Prometheus don't connect to the Alien much like cmdr and i were talking about. It's too inconsistent. You can see Ridley Scott playing with the ideas and making it look as if they were there but with how the movie plays out, there is no direct connection. Just the idea of the movie may explain the origin of the xenomorph in Alien.

Ridley said that if he is able to secure a deal for a sequel, he'll move the series even further away from Alien.

  17. So basically a reboot of the series then going in another direction? If it can keep the discovery aspect plus some great Alien-esq deaths then I will be all over a sequel.

  18. It wasn't a prequel or a reboot. The old and new story lines don't have to overlap to make sense.

Looking back I suppose I'd give it an 8/10.

  19. From an interview with Ridley Scott about Prometheus:

So part of the point of Prometheus is to answer those questions, although he didn't attempt to do it using the same Space Jockey that's seen in the original Alien. It's obviously the same character universe, so it is a prequel in terms of the timeline...the events of Prometheus happen before Alien.

  20. Yes by timeline and universe but not necessarily by story since the tie in is rather loose. It's like if Lucas came out with a Boba Fett movie. It'd be in the Star Wars Universe and it would obviously have to happen before the Return of the Jedi but it wouldn't be a prequel to an existing Fett movie.
