  1. it forgot to incude 51st dates (wait... I just looked it up on imdb and it's 50 first dates I thought it was 51st cuz it took place in Hawaii the 51st state...)

  2. or groundhog day that's another end of the world movie lol.

  3. Get The Gringo I would give a 7/10 too. And as has been said, it's very similar to Payback. It sort of had a Max Payne feel about it too (3rd game) with the setting and Mel Gibson's deep voice narration. Overall, enjoyable action flick with a cookie-cutter plot.

End of Watch 8/10. Good flick through the perspective of two police officers and their day to day work. The commentary/comradery between them is quite funny. There are some moments in the movie I didn't expect, I would recommend this one.

Lawless 6/10. It was okay I guess. Pretty standard western stuff involving bootlegging, shootouts and corrupt police. I would have given it a 7 but I can't stand Shia LaDouche.

  4. Django Unchained

It's a grindhouse blaxploitation movie that makes no attempt to be even remotely historically or geographically accurate. Tarantino goes for a mix of Mandingo and old westerns. On the one hand this movie condemns and mocks racism. Tarantino seems to be trying to do to racist southerners what he did to Nazis in Inglourious Basterds. But it's also hilariously racist itself, especially the Samuel L Jackson "house nigga" character, and the extent to which the movie exploits racism for camp and shock value. Speaking of the N word, you'll hear it at least 500 times by my estimation.

The actors were all pretty good. Christoph Waltz can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. The guy has amazing screen presence and I love that he's fluent in a bunch of languages. Leo Dicaprio hams it up to ridiculous heights as the cartoonishly evil owner of Candyland, where male slaves are forced to fight to the death, and female slaves are turned into whores. Jamie Foxx was good, but I don't think he really stood out despite being the main character.

Overall I liked it, but not as much as some of Tarantino's other movies. The movie is schlocky fun at times, but there are other times where Tarantino seems to be in love with the smell of his own farts. Some of the dialogue just drones on way too long, and I think the whole thing was about an hour too long and badly in need of editing. But despite its faults, I came away from it very entertained, so I can't get too down on it. It's three hours long though, so unless you're a huge Tarantino fan, it would probably be better to wait for it to come out on Blu-ray.

    8/10

  5. something about osama or some other title on netflix... typical bollywood movie. It was fun, at least, to pick out the stereotypes.

  6. I think the truth about Tarantino is that he's largely just a hack when it comes to the ideas and direction, but knows how to dress it up with enough dialogue and controversy to fool people into thinking he's trying to make a statement about something.

  7. Can't people just watch films for enjoyment anymore instead of taking a directors credibility into account?

  8. Because when you watch it, you'll be wondering, "why the f did they do it like that" and then you remember the director and you're be all like "ooooohh.."

    shymalan.

  9. oh, and speaking of shymalan. I recently saw the After Earth trailer and was SUPER intrigued. didn't really think to look up anything on it as it already grabbed me. but some few days after that, i looked it up and lo and behold.. i saw the director was shymalan. i've been in depression since then.

  10. The twist is that after earth isn't really after earth but before earth and because bees

  11. The Lorax

It had some good parts but mostly it felt lacking and didn't have a Dr Seuss vibe.

  12. I think people generally either love or hate Tarantino. I love his stuff and think Pulp Fiction is possibly the greatest film ever made, but clearly alterego hates Tarantino and thinks he's a hack. I do think Tarantino can be a bit full of himself at times, but with the movies he's made, I think he has every right to be. The guy is probably the greatest director alive today. He's a genius.

Anyway, Django is very entertaining. I don't see how anyone who enjoyed Tarantino's other stuff or who likes Blaxploitation movies wouldn't like it. And I did watch it for enjoyment. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

  13. Pulp Fiction is good. I like the Kill Bills too. Shame he does not want to do a vol 3 now.

  14. I don't hate Tarantino. He just dwells on exaggeration and "controversial" elements as a cover for his very average level of talent. Film critics take him far too seriously.

  15. I fail to see how he's average. Pulp Fiction is impeccably well written. In fact, I can't think of a movie that's so well written or so endlessly watchable.

The exaggeration and "controversial" stuff is him mimicking the grindhouse exploitation movies he loves so much. I can see how he's not your thing as you have very delicate sensibilities and get offended easily, which is probably why you stick to that sanitized 1950s bullshit. But the fact that his stuff is often offensive and inflammatory doesn't make him any less of a genius.

And Django does make a bold statement about racist scumbags from the south. That's a part of our history that we too often try to sweep under the rug, and it was often sanitized in old crappy movies like Gone With the Wind. And all of the racism and cruelty from that time period needs to be brought out and shown to the world. Slave owning southerners were largely inhuman monsters similar to the Nazis. DiCaprio's depiction is exaggerated, but it's actually not that far off from what those people were like and what they believed. I strongly believe the Union army didn't go far in enough in destroying the Confederacy, and that's why we have red states and all of the right wing lunacy to this day. Sure, Tarantino shows this stuff in comic book style revenge fantasy fashion, but that's just his style. And it actually works pretty well here.

  16. Why are you so obsessed with the idea that I'm easily offended? All I did was respond with my own opinion about Tarantino. I never said that I was personally "offended" by Tarantino anyway. I find many of his movies to be fairly dull, like the Kill Bill flicks or Jackie Brown.

I think Tarantino should be taken at face value: he loves B-movies and genre films from the '70s, and he remakes those with A-list stars. So, essentially, he's just a B-movie director with better acting talent.

  17. This is the type of thing I'm talking about. Tarantino isn't trying to make a statement about racism any more than he's trying to make a statement about violence. He's just a fan of the original spaghetti western Django films and blaxploitation flicks from the '70s and wanted to make his own Tarantino-ized version of it, i.e., highly exaggerated and over-the-top.

  18. Pulp Fiction = Great Film.
    Kill Bill = Great Films
Reservoir Dogs = Shit, was so disappointed when I saw it.
    Jackie Brown = Great Film.

  19. Kill bill was awful

  20. The first one was OK to watch once but the second was a bit poor.
