I also said that both Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection were the worst of the series. It's kinda like picking the most intelligent Kardashian. You're not getting anything great no matter which is your choice.
That analogy is like a Beyonce video. My view on Prometheus remain largely the same. I thought was a good suspense/thriller, but bad Alien prequel. It didn't provide any sort of explanations you would expect form a prequel. I felt the need for more details as to how the captain made his deductions at the end. He was not written as a Sherlock Holmes-esq character until that point. Most importantly you still know nothing about the Xenomorphs, and the hybrid thing at the end was a whole new species no movie has encountered before, I didn't get the point of it at all. I though AvP did a better job with aliens back-story than Prometheus, which felt like they had an idea for a movie, but wanted to attach it to a know franchise to draw in more/easy $$$. Add in sloppy writing and you have some very WTF moments. But overall it was still entertaining to watch.
You make it sound like they had a generic sci-fi movie which they tried to tie-in to the Alien franchise but it was actually the opposite. They started with a prequel script to Alien and then turned that into a movie with less of a tie-in.
Agreed. I was hoping for more from that film. Not as great as everyone made out and the show of the Xenonorph at the end leaves some questions. Aliens 2> Aliens > resurection > 3
That was the point though. The ending was meant to leave questions as Ridley Scott has intentions to make a sequel.
I don't recall much of the first film other than the famous chest bursting scene, bilbo being an android, and the film just generally being really good. I remember aliens better and that's my favourite. Alien 3 was ok I guess but I feel resurrection was better than 3. Aliens>Alien>Resurrection>3
Prometheus is definitely a prequel. It just isn't a traditional prequel, i.e., a direct lead into the events of the previous films. In other words, Scott decided that telling the back story of how the space jockey ended up dead on the specific planet at the start of Alien was going to be too familiar to audiences. That's what they mean by "repeating the cues" in bfun's quote.
The Help Although I won’t deny that it’s a good movie I thought it was a bit long and boring. Star Trek: Nemesis It was typical Star Trek NG and the plot was predictable. However, I did enjoy it and I’d say it was better than Generations.
Silent Hill: Revelation: I enjoyed it but it could have been much better. Liking the few references dotted around the film from the games including the very end which hopefully means third film.
this movie went all resident evil on me. jesus christ, they totally took away what made the first movie good (and the game) and went retarded with it. i already knew it was going to be bad for me when i saw what they did with it in the trailers but watching it revealed the other poor decisions they made. the movie went the jump-scare route which is a sign of poor horror. it's too cheap. you need to really creep out to really scare the audience. the only well done scene was when she was at the mall. i'm not even sure if i really understood what was happening.. SPOILERS the the head of the order was.. i'll call her claudia monster. the darkness was following "Heather" around. I assumed Alessa was causing that. Apparently not? because why would alessa torture her innocent part like that? on top of that, it looked like claudia monster was only able to reach "heather" when the darkness was around. also claudia's masked cronies were retarded too. they wheeled vincent into the room of nurses and got slaughtered like a bunch of noobs. I didn't even know what the point of that scene was. and then that needless scene with claudia monster and pyramid head showdown? wtf. the named of that amulet should've been changed too. metatron.. sounds like she was trying to free the autobots or something. END SPOILER there's been a couple sequels that have been following this this poor direction. rec 3 totally moved away from rec 1 and 2's found footage serious horror direction and then went into comedic horror or something. i still don't know what to make of that movie. the last exorcism 2.. i don't even know why they made a sequel to that. totally unneeded. now you have some generic exorcism film that hollywood has 5000 of already. the first one was original with a great ending that needed no sequel.
Haha yeah that nurse scene was lame. They were knifing for them and the guys were like sho sho trying to push them away.
I would agree with that if there was some form of reasoning here. The first movie was filmed in a documentary found footage style. That made the movie unique as you approached the final 10 minutes of the movie. In the end, this is basically what made the movie. So when the sequel was made, you had to assume it would be in a similar style to the original Last Exorcism. This is exactly what happened to the second blair witch project movie. First one was successful with the found footage theme. Second movie came in as a regular style movie and was an epic fail. Everyone I know who liked the first Last Exorcism movie was excited about hearing about a sequel, but got largely disappointed when they saw the trailer. I don't even know why they want to extend the story of the first movie. I'm not one of those people that bitch and moan about sequels, but when they start moving away from things that made the original successful, it's a huge turnoff.
