Total Recall 2012 Despite having better visuals and maybe better acting I still like the 1990 version better.
Yeah the new Total Recall wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews would have you believe. In fact, it was pretty decent, just not as much fun as the Arnie original.
Red Dawn 2012 I never saw the original so I can't compare the two but it seems like this is a movie that deserves to stay in the 80s. You have to really dumb yourself down to watch it.

Yes, there were a lot of extremely dumb action B-movies from the 80s. More than probably any other decade. Take anything with Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, or Charles Bronson in it for instance. I think this is probably because the 80s also had arguably the best action and sci-fi movies of any decade, and there were bound to be knockoffs. Everyone wanted to be Arnie, Bruce Willis, or Stallone back in the 80s, and the result was a lot of terrible movies and flavor of the week wannabe action stars. Even by the very low standards of these kinds of movies, Red Dawn was pretty dumb. The only good thing I can say about it is that it had a lot of camp value. It was a seriously stupid movie that didn't need a modern remake.
You're partially confusing the 90's with the 80's. Van Damme starred in 5 films in the 80's and 17 in the 90's. Seagall starred in 1 film in the 80's and 10 in the 90's.
Sinister It was alright as creepy films go I guess but it was easy to see what was going on right from the start.
Season of the witch. A really cheesy Nic Cage film, I wouldn't recommend anyone ever watch it really. Just noticed commando is on but I missed the first 20 minutes watching that over shit.
How would you say it compares to the Wickerman remake? That was one of the best bad movies I've seen.
I watched the Wickerman and wished I hadn't. Season of the Witch was kind of dumb but still entertaining.
I thought Cage running around punching women while wearing a bear costume was classic. It also had some unforgettable lines like "step away from the bike!" and "oh god not the bees!" If it's that good/bad then I'll definitely want to see it. Wickerman was a true masterpiece of shit cinema.
Sinister It was a decent enough horror movie, with good acting and a few legitimately creepy parts. But I thought it relied too heavily on jump scares, and the ending was predictable. 7/10
yea too heavy on the jump scares. the recorded murders on super 8 with the creepy music was well done though. I thought ethan hawke breaking down and screaming like crazy was hilarious
True, the murder scenes on super 8 were very well done, which is why I can't get too down on the movie. But jump scares are best when used sparingly. Also, they made it too obvious what was going on and what was going to happen. You knew right when they said one child always goes missing who was doing the murders, and the cover of the movie has the little girl writing on the wall in blood, so it was clear early on how it was going to end.
The Loved Ones The evil serial killer chick in this movie was pretty hot. I would have gone to the dance with her; no kidnapping, torture, or lobotomy with a power drill required. In all seriousness though, I'm not exactly sure why this has a 98% on Rottentomatoes. It was a decent horror movie, with a few really brutal and creepy scenes, and a strong performance by the girl playing the villain. But at the same time I felt like the main character was underdeveloped, which made it hard to care about what happened to him, and the subplot with the dork and the goth chick going to prom went absolutely nowhere and felt like filler. 7/10
Black Death With two Game of Thrones stars I expected it to be more entertaining. It was just average.
