Last movie you saw?

  1. I sctualy thought it was a different movie, some action flick with a bunch of old actors... escapes my mind right now :x but

  2. When I started Hereafter, I was like OMG WTF when all of the sudden a huge tsunami came roaring into the screen. It was a long and crazy scene. And then the rest of the movie was like.. zzz, snort, huh? oh.. zzz

    Touching movie though.

  3. ....Utter tripe?

  4. Thor

It was an average movie I would say. It never really got me to the edge of my seat and it never really felt like there was a proper villian that was going to be hard to deal with which is a massive problem for a 'hero' movie.

The one saving grace was the fact that they didn't try to force the 3D. At no point did you have the obligatory hammer flying towards your face, it was all used to just give you depth which I liked. We had to see the 3D version as the 2D version was only on at stupid times but in the end with no stupid gimmicks being used I don't mind that it cost me a little extra.

I was expecting more after Ichi came on here creaming over it which is probably why I feel a little let down.

  5. Maybe I hyped it up a lot. But, I was a massive Thor and Avengers comic nerd and it ticked all of the boxes I expected from the movie and more. I was also giddy when I saw the after credits extra that the marvel/avengers tie in movies all have had so far...

  6. I enjoyed Thor. Not one of the greatest movies ever but much better than some of the other superhero movies I've seen of late. Saw it on an IMAX screen and thought the 3D was pretty impressive too.

  7. Fast Five

It was entertaining when there were fast cars, shit was blowing up, and Vin Diesel wasn't attempting to act. It was better than the other Fast and Furious movies I've seen, although that's kind of like saying that crap is better than shit. I would have seen Thor, but no one in the group I was with wanted to see it.

  8. Planet of Vampires

Ridley Scott denied ever having seen this film, but there are some interesting similarities between it and the original Alien. In a nutshell, it's a classic B movie from the mid 1960's...but rises above the pedestrian acting and low budget to deliver a legitimately creepy atmosphere. The rushed "twist" ending is a total flop, but overall this flick is pretty entertaining if you enjoy vintage sci-fi B movies. Streams on Netflix.

  9. Morituri

If you like Marlon Brando, this is a solid espionage thriller set during WWII. Brando gets blackmailed by British Intelligence to pose as an SS officer on a German freighter carrying a valuable cargo of rubber and must sabotage the scuttling charges so that the Allies can capture the supplies for themselves. It's kind of an odd plot device, but it works pretty well overall. The very end of the film feels tacked on, like perhaps the studio execs wanted a quasi "happy" ending.

  10. I have the choice of watching Iron man 2 or the new Harry Potter tonight. Any ideas on which one?

  11. You mean Deathly Hallows part 1? I watched it recently with the wife and was pleasantly surprised. I am really glad its now moved away from the whole 'we are going to school again' plot and I know everyone says it but the monies really do get darker as they go on.

Actually looking forward to seeing the last one when it comes out and yes I know that makes me sound like a complete girl.

Iron Man is OK, pretty entertaining.

  12. Yeah the deathly Hallows. Think I may watch that one as I do enjoy the Potter films. My mate said I should just wait until the second one is out so I could watch both at once but I like to watch it as soon as possible.

  13. Why do you even need to choose? Iron Man 2 of course.

  14. AI - I never saw this back in the day, probably because there was so much backlash against it. But I actually enjoyed it and thought it worked, despite being part sci-fi and part fairy tale, and a mix of Spielberg and Kubrick. Seriously underrated and misunderstood.

  15. Yeah it's a very good film. You have to be in the right midset to watch it though, it's pretty long.

  16. Waiting for Superman

It rightfully attacked no child left behind, but then went into a right wing diatribe about the evils of teachers' unions and greatness of charter schools. Sure, there are a few bad teachers. But the movie made all teachers into scapegoats. And the reality is that charter schools on average don't perform any better than regular public schools. Also, important things like lack of funding, class size, socioeconomic factors, language barriers, and the laziness of the students themselves were barely discussed or not discussed at all. In all, it was nothing more than thinly veiled Republican propaganda. Bleh.

  17. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Enjoyed it and it was nice to once not be in that damn school. Looking forward to thel penultimate film.

  18. Lottery Ticket

It seemed pretty bad but I probably wasn't the intended audience.

The Monster Ball tour: Lady Gaga

Not really a movie but pretty entertaining.

  19. Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance

The first installment in the film series based on the manga. Quite good, and despite it's over the top (for the era) violence and a fair amount of nudity, it never seems like an exploitation flick. The actor who plays the lead role is so perfect for it. You can feel the vengeance smoldering...

  20. Thor in Imax 3D

I really enjoyed it. It had a silly premise that could have gone either way, but it worked because it didn't take itself too seriously. Also it's got something for everyone, Natalie Portman and the big jugged Kat Dennings for the guys, and the big hunky Nordic-looking Australian dude who plays Thor for the girls.
