Star Trek Into Darkness I would put it up there with Wrath of Khan and First Contact as one of the better Star Trek movies.
I saw it tonight as well. I would have preferred more originality than rehashing of the past. At this point I think they could do much better if they went back to TV. The movie was good but Star Trek was always meant to be in an episode format. An HBO series would be fantastic. I also just figured out that Bones and Dredd were the same guy.
My wife and I actually just had the same conversation leaving the movie. We're hoping future Star Trek movies introduce some new stuff and stop rehashing. Into Darkness was basically Wrath of Khan redone for a current audience. The Spock/Kirk role reversal in the warp core stood out as particularly lame and totally rehashed. Overall, the movie was good, but it was nothing new. I'd give it a 7/10. As far as a new Trek TV show, it's just like you said, it would only work on cable at this point. AMC would be perfect IMO. Walking Dead is proof they can do a show with a nerdy following, and bring in the nerds by the millions. Network TV is too cancel happy with shows and would never give a Trek show a chance to find its stride. I'm still pissed they canceled Enterprise right as it was getting good.
Right. The reactor moment should have had a dramatic impact but I'm sure everyone was thinking they had seen it before.
Is that the one where Mark Wahlberg is a gangster who's brothers are all inexplicably black? That looked really dumb.
Spy Hard My memory of this film was that it was funnier than it actually is. Still funnier than any spoof that that has come out in the last decade or so I guess. Crime in a multi-story carpark, that is wrong on so many levels.
Crowsnest A really by-the-numbers found footage horror. Not awful, not great. If you don't get annoyed by people making goofy decisions and razor thin plots then it might be worth a go.
Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters This was a really stupid movie, but it had enough over the top violence that I was never bored by it. And it at least seemed to be self aware of its own badness. Nobody involved seemed to take it seriously.
Resident evil retribution Think it's got 30 minutes left. I hope it's not any longer. It's terrible. Edit: It was 20 minutes. It was terrible. I know action films aren't all about the plot but this was so empty and I really didn't give a toss about any of the characters.
that's the thing though. They can add as much characters from the game as they want but with the type of plot they keep using, it's always going to be garbage. it's always such a mess that you can't take the movie seriously after the first 15min. but whatever they're doing is working on the mainstream crowd. each movie in the series makes more than the prior one. if you want a serious live action resident evil movie, you'll probably never get one because of this. the cg ones from capcom stay true to the plot, but are mediocre at best.
Stoker It was delightfully trashy and creepy and had some interesting cinematography, but was let down a bit by Nicole Kidman's horrible acting. Blade Runner The Final Cut This movie was already a visual feast, and they did an amazing job cleaning it up and making it look even better on Blu-ray.
The Hitcher Rutger Hauer takes what would have otherwise just been another cheesy 80s B horror movie and elevates it to greatness with his awesome performance as a serial killing hitchhiker.
No. The Sean Bean one is the terrible remake. Rutger Hauer is a great actor who was particularly awesome in Blade Runner. He never made it big in Hollywood, but it seems like the guy just prefers doing B-movies. That they cast him for Hobo With a Shotgun was no coincidence.
