You should watch the Blu-ray version of Blade Runner immediately. It's one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all-time. Way ahead of its time, and the Blu-ray has been in every Top ___ Must-Own Blu-ray Movie lists since it was released. BTW, speaking of sci-fi, the Blu-ray of 2001: A Space Odyssey also looks incredible, especially when you consider it was made in the late 60s (although it should be noted it was shot in 70 mm film, which blows away even our best quality Blu-rays...by quite a huge margin). Looks absolutely gorgeous in addition to being one of the best movies ever made.
It's a slow paced detective story with ruminations about what it means to be human. Dudebro is probably going to come back and complain that it didn't star Vin Diesel and have explosions every five seconds.
I haven't seen Blade Runner since high school. We studied the directors cut for english in year 11. That kinda made it less cool. Also, it was probably on VHS and I know for sure that it was the directors cut. Are you referring to the directors cut when you say Blu-Ray? From what I remember when I studied it, I think the directors cut actually showed less. For example, it cut out the ending of them leaving the city (?). Anyhow I should really watch it on blu ray... just wondering if it's the original or directors cut that most prefer these days.
I have the 5-disc Complete Collector's Edition. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Blade-Runner-Blu-ray/545/
The Blu-ray is actually a different cut called The Final Cut. The image and sound quality are improved, it doesn't have Harrison Ford's awful narration or the cheesy happy ending the studio forced on the theatrical version, and I felt like it was more tightly edited and the pacing was improved. I've seen all three versions, and The Final Cut is by far the best. Overall, I agree with AKS that Blade Runner is one of the best science fiction films ever made. It was years ahead of its time and hugely influential.
Snow White and the Huntsman Average at best I would say. Found out while streaming it that Chrome is actually rubbish for full screen 1080p streaming. Laptop to TV with HDMI and it just wouldn't stop juddering, switched to IE10 and it played it perfectly. Had a bit of juddering before with full screen Chrome but we don't stream too many movies over the web so we tend to forget about it and this was the worst yet.
ouch. Chrome may be more resource intensive. It plays fine on my core i5 and mobile core i3. are you on an older c2d?
Identity Thief Starts out promising, but degenerates into a generic buddy road trip comedy. Didn't watch this voluntarily, the wife put it on.
The Call Starts off as an okay thriller about 911 dispatchers, turns into a terrible Silence of the Lambs knockoff, and then has an absolutely retarded ending that makes no sense in the context of the preceding film where it turns into a revenge fantasy. I guess it's about what you'd expect from a movie made by the WWE and starring Halle Berry. It made money too, so expect to see some even more terrible direct to video sequels, probably starring wrestlers.
Man of Steel Superman has historically been difficult to create a compelling story for in movies. You can't have all action, but the lack of action at all is really boring. MoS does a decent job combining the two but it has problems with pacing and character development. Also at nearly two and a half hours there are probably a few action scenes that we could have done without. Overall though the film does a good job of making you empathize with Kal El, and the two fathers approach to Clark's developing identity was a great touch. The villain general Zod is excellent. Michael Shannon is intense and steals the show when he is on screen. In addition to this the climax of the film has action that makes even bigger blockbuster's like The Avengers look like a cakewalk. This movie is definitely worth the matinee price and you don't have to be a Superman fan to enjoy it.
Skeletons Came across this showing on BBC2 late one night at the weekend and decided to record. Gave it a go tonight and found it quite an interesting watch. Wouldn't really know what sort of category to put it in.
Iron Man 3 It was better than I expected. It wasn’t as epic as Avengers or even Thor but I don’t think Iron Man is supposed to be like that.
Glory I hadn't seen this for years and on rewatching I still think it's arguably the best movie you'll find about the American Civil War. Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman are awesome in this (Denzel won an Oscar for his role), and if you don't cry at the end or at least tear up a little bit, you probably aren't human.
She's just disappointed she couldn't have Denzel and Morgan Freeman dressed as slave butlers at that plantation themed wedding she wanted.
Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam The Superman story is pretty good but the other short stories just reinforce the idea that most DC characters are lame.
