  1. My beach house is looking good.

I've built a moat around my house and those stupid green things get in there and never die. Is there a way to kill them?

  2. You'll want to make the water flow into a two or three block deep section, that way the creepers will drown. Or just hack at them with a sword

  3. I'm curious myself, but it looks like crap and I'd never pay much of anything for it. Seems like the kind of thing you'd pick up on Steam for a buck or two.

  4. Okay. I'll dig my moat a little deeper. I created a bunker that I can go into and stab things stuck in the moat but if I get too near the green things I'll die in the explosion.

Last night I was digging down and down. Thought I was being careful but I fell into a cave. It had these cute little green blobs that were trying to attack me. I thought no big deal but then all the big greenies came and then the skeletons. I lost all my crap down there. Tried three recovery mission but eventually gave up.

  5. What you'll want to do is craft some buckets to hold the water. Make a little 2x2 square somewhere and fill it in two of the diagonals, this'll give you an infinite water source.

    *********
    **| |w|** <- this on the ground
    **|w| |**
    *********

Then clear the water from your moat so it's dry and place water only on the outside edge, so all the water flows towards your deep end. That way the mobs will be pushed into the bottom of the deep end and they won't be able to jump out.

    Something like this.

    G
    G
    G| | | | | |W|****
    G| |************
    G| |************

    G=glass
    * = dirt
    W =water

I've built quite an advanced mob trap in my underground hideout.

The mobs either burn, drown or die by cactus (for the spiders)

The item drops land on this switch which lights up a redstone torch in the hall so I know if I have any items.

This room spawns cows, sheep, pigs and chickens underground, so I don't need to venture upstairs for porkchops. Bit harder to spawn them since they only spawn with enough light on grass, and since the overworld is pretty much all grass and sunlight during the day, not many appear in here.

The water is flowing from above ground, so if any animals fall into the channel, they end up here.

[edit] oh yeah, F2 takes a screenshot in Minecraft, saves it to your documents/appdata/roaming/.minecraft/screenshots.

  6. Lol you really need alot of imagination for this game:p

  7. Wow fancy underground lair. I decided to go above ground. It can be hazardous until you get protection for the exploding guys. I also learned that a roof was a must because the stupid spiders can go high. I want to go wicked high with it. Any chance it will collapse?

My moat has a glass bottom so I call look at the monsters floating above!

Oh I've cows and chickens in my tunnels. Not sure how that happens. I guess I have a small protected exit out side that they might spawn on.

  8. You can build anything up to the sky limit, which I think is 128 blocks above sea level. I have a 1x1 block tower all the way up there outside my main entrance lit with torches so I can find it easily.

The animals in your tunnel are probably getting in through an entrance you haven't blocked off or something.

Caves are pretty easy to deal with, mobs can only spawn if it's dark enough so just make sure you have torches at least every 8 blocks or so.

My lair is actually a lot bigger than the mob trap and animal spawn. I have a loooooong staircase from when I got lost and had to dig my way to the surface in the beginning. I'll take some more screenshots of it later.

Here's my beacon tower, nothing fancy really. The trees have covered it up a bit.

A vertical hole I blasted with TNT to get some light down into my caves.

  9. Do you build armor and swords?

  10. I craft swords but I don't bother with armour, it's a waste of materials for me. I'm never in any major danger since I'm careful with my cave exploring and I usually stick to known routes in my lair. In fact, I've made a dive hole by my spawn so I can get straight back into my lair with minimal fuss.

It's not difficult to dig straight down 3 blocks when you're close to monsters then block up the hole. I normally build small huts to run to if I'm exploring outside.

I save all my iron for important things like pickaxes/shovels/buckets

  11. Damm. I'm hopelessly lost and I don't want to loose my stuff. Any tricks to getting back to spawn? I have red dust for a compass but it's back at the house.

  12. So is this really worth the money? Is there a way to try before you buy without piracy?

  13. Dying's the quickest way. :p

There are several map viewers which will display your world from above, so if you've got a recognisable structure near your spawn you can find it.

If you want to know where you are, then build a really tall, thin tower and put torches around it. Then when you view the map, you should see where you are.

Next time you'd best heed the tale of Hansel and Gretel and sort yourself out with some breadcrumbs.

@cmdrmonkey, they have the old alpha version create build available to play in your browser on the site, but it's purely a creative build, you get unlimited blocks and you make what you like. The current version has monsters and craftable items which add a lot more to it.

  14. I have no idea why I keep playing. It's like the ultimate sandbox game and it's addicting. I still think it's over priced and there is a good chance you'll hate it.

  15. Why would I hate it?

Also, does it have multiplayer and if so how is it?

  16. I got cornered in a cave and had to dig my way out. When I cam up I was totally lost. I even built little torch towers around my island so I wouldn't get lost.

So lets pretend I'm a noob and have no idea what to do with that file. :/

  17. because it gives you no help at all when you first play. It's you and the world and you try and figure it out from there. Most of the crafting recipes you'll need to find online, since the game tells you nothing!

It's Lego in FPS form, basically. make of that what you will.

  18. This game sounds quite addicting actually. What is the actual point for this game?

  19. That's what happened to me when I created my Endless Stair. totally lost for 3 days.

Extract the contents of the RAR to a folder then run Cartograph_G.exe.

You can then load your world and it'll display it like the screenshot above. You can then save it if you like but you should be able to use it to find your bearings.

  20. But don't you build forts and craft items to fight monsters? I thought the whole point was to survive the nightly monster attacks.
