I was talking to Monsly and Cmdmonkey you gimp. They need to give me some facts and reasons on why they think LTTP is better than OOT.
Because I've been in a weird sleep deprived stance all day. I was supposed to quote the post above your post which was Monsly's.
You must have played it years after the fact, because Half-Life was nothing like other shooters at the time. In 1998, everything was a Doom or Quake clone. Most of the conventions we now take for granted in shooters first appeared in Half-Life. Prior to Half-Life, shooters didn't try to tell a good story, they didn't have big scripted set piece battles or vehicles (even though they weren't drivable, the marines had helicopters and tanks), they didn't have advanced enemy AI, or complicated objectives. Half-Life changed everything.
Half-life 2 was the game that got me in to FPS's big time. before that the only games I liked were Goldeneye and Perfect Dark/Zero. If it was not for Half-life 2 I would have never got in to the Call of Duty's and the F.E.A.R series.
Agreed that Half-Life itself was very awesome until you got to the crazy weird teleportation to the alien world. The scripted events were awesome at that time. Ah, I'd like to throw in my 2 cents. Crysis was crazy overrated for me. As much as I tried, I could not get into that game. I tried the demo.. found it boring. Months later, I tried the full version. Still could not get into it. Hell, I even tried Warhead and couldn't get into it. Graphics were very good, but gameplay-wise And everyone knows my stance on final fantasy 7
For me (I can't talk for other people), the whole atmosphere in Black Mesa was great and it would've been awesome if they let you continue to the end in Black Mesa.
I think it's because the rest of the game was so grounded; It felt like a real world, and then all of a sudden you're trampolining about in some generic alien world.
I'm not sure if you played Opposing Force, but Black Mesa got nuked. The only reason Gordon survived was because he was in Xen. Opposing Force is also excellent and tells the rest of the story of what happened at Black Mesa.
I think it's almost impossible to have a valid point of view about older games like LttP or OoT unless you were playing them when they first came out. That's when you really experience the full impact of what a classic game has to offer. I didn't go that route with the Zelda games (WindWaker was literally the first Zelda I ever played), so it's obvious why I wasn't blown away by either LttP or OoT. However, I can at least understand why OoT would have so many votes when it comes to the best Zelda: 3D brings the adventure game genre to life in a way 2D can't quite match, so anyone experiencing that originally with OoT had to have been impressed. And how can anyone try to say HL2 is overrated?? I played a bug-ridden, low-resolution emulation of the Xbox port on my 360...and was completely addicted.
AHHH, well that makes sense. I didn't get the expansions, no. But see, that would've been great to be Gordon and getting nuked in Black Mesa. Breakthrough storytelling.
I forgot to throw in my opinions on HL2. I actually bought that game on launch and all and even got the t-shirt bundled with it still. I installed the game, and walked through the gate at the beginning and the game crashed. I never played it again after that until 3 yrs later. It was actually pretty good but I lost interest again. I blame the 3 yrs on World of Warcraft. That game ruined people.
Not that bit, no. But the tram into work, the impression that it's an ordinary day in the life of a mute, bespectacled, iron suit wearing scientist action hero in a lab of science that just happens to be invaded by aliens. The fact that the vending machines only had the drink I don't like is just salt to the wound.
Opposing Force was awesome at the time. You could control a squad of marines, and it showed a lot of the events of HL from the perspective of the marines trying to hunt down Freeman. And Corporal Shepherd was a badass. I hope he comes back in Ep3 or HL3. Blue Shift sucked balls.
Exactly. You hit the nail on the head, but then again, some older games still has better stories or things than the newer games with amazing graphics. in any case, what LTTP had or did, OOT did better. The story was miles better, the game-play was better, the world was bigger and the dungeons were much more better. Basically, the whole game was better, and this coming from someone who has played the Zelda's in order since the NES days.
