I tried it for half hour last night, including setting it up and trying the AR games. The 3D effect is very cool indeed but I did find it caused some eye ache after I finished. The 3D seems to take a split second to work as your eyes adjust so that could be a pain the ass for any game that uses the bottom screen a lot.
I got the black one with Ridge Racer (they had also Sims and Samurai Warriors, both of them are craps). I just thought that although June/July could mean a better lineup, there could be no consoles as quite a lot of people wait for games and they all will try to get a console then. I guess it will get the dust until some true games finally arrive. I still think that the lack of 3dsware and a browser is a serious mistake. As for the 3D, I don't have any issues, no headaches, no eye strains.
3DSware and browser should arrive somewhere in May. I for one am waiting on the new games. Maybe a Zelda special edition, but I doubt that. My wife has the blue one, but maybe there will be some other colors around the release too.
Thanks to Monsly's scaremongering regarding a price increase I have just paid £219.99 for a 3DS with Rayman 3D. There really was nothing I really wanted but I decided a platformer should at least keep me entertained until the AAA titles come out. I managed to get £8 of loyalty points with this too so that's £8 off a decent game when they appear. It is now charging on my desk so in around 2 hours I should be able to see if the thing breaks my eyes. I asked in the store if they had had anyone return it complaining of pain and they said only 1. I quite trust my local Gamestation so I don't doubt they are telling the truth.
At least they were honest enough to admit they had one pain related return. I imagine most places would just say no to bag the sale. That's what I like about Gamestation. At game they seem to hire school leavers and people looking to work anywhere, Gamestation seems to only hire gamers, and that's the way it should be.
I know someone who went in to drop off a CV, before she was even allowed to leave it she had to answer some game related questions. The girl who served me has been in there for years and said she hasn't had too much trouble with her 3DS. She said she got it for SFIV which didn't appeal to me.
Haven't played much (5 minutes) but this is weirding me out, the 3D works really well and seeing movement with things coming towards you is pretty damn good. I haven't had the problem where if I look away it takes a second to readjust, I seem to see it straight away. The flies on Rayman are odd, they are flying around and it looks like they are in front of the screen.
I can just imagine how badass OOT3DS will be. Gannondorf's bolts flying out of the screen towards you and stuff like that.
And how do you guys like the demo movie they've included in the updated firmware? In my opinion, it shows precisely when 3D sucks and when it shines. In particular, there are some scenes with great 3D (water on hands, the train runing towards the camera, the blooming flower) and some other where 3D sucks (the closing sequence with all these fireworks, the 3D is barely visible there just because all the objects were probably TOO far away from the camera so the view from both positions was almost the same). I really, really look forward to some kind of a VOD in their 3ds ware.
To be honest since getting my 3DS other than firing it up to show people the demo video I have barely used it. The lack of decent games really is a nightmare and if it hadn't been for Monslys scaremongering I probably wouldn't have gotten one yet. Not found much interest in Rayman 3D and once the initial 'Wow its 3D' wore off got pretty bored with it pretty quickly.
Yeah, I've barely played mine. I should probably play Ghost Recon properly; seemed like it could have potential when I tried it.
I didn't really have much interest in Ghost Recon when I got the console but look at a review when I got back and it looked semi interesting as a tactical game. If I get bored enough before Zelda comes out I MAY pick it up but I would have to be REALLY bored.
Mario Kart 3DS and Starfox 3DS will be shown at E3. Mario Kart should be as good or even better than the Wii one.
I am really disgusted at the pricing of the virtual console games on the 3DS... Super Mario Land £3.60 (GB) Alleyway £2.70 (GB) Tennis £2.70 (GB) Links Awakening DX £5.40!!!!! (GBC) They are really taking the piss here. I thought games were too much on the Wii but at least they had a single price per console, how can GB games vary so much? I wonder what they are going to start charging for GBA games? Also you have to credit at least £10 when paying and can only pay in increments of £10. Nintendo get a little worse everyday.
I think the US price for Zelda DX is $5.99 so they are being ripped off too. Saw someone complain somewhere because its $5.99 + Tax. I would hate to live in America, pricing seems such a pain in the ass because they never include Tax on anything.
That Resident Evil Revelations looks great on the 3DS. Hopefully a lot of games using that graphics capability comes on it.
There's a chance that at least two of major stores will put OoT on shelves tomorrow. If not, I will wait till friday. Nonetheless, it's one of first decisive weekends for 3DS. What worries me is that I should probably see and hear Zelda's ads when I open my fridge but apparently I don't see ANY ads around. Are they SO sure about sales?
