I think this is another weird Nvidia launch. They had all the time in the world to get it ready but the launch has been pretty week. So far it's just been the stock cooler versions and they are out of stock everywhere. People who have managed to get one are able to really OC the heck out of it but the stock cooler is about as loud as the original 290x. I agree that they dropped the price to thwart AMD. AMD was making a card to compete with the Titan at the $1000 price level. Nvidia just sacrificed their own Titan to back AMD into a corner. I actually think this weak launch might mean they will have a 980 Ti Ultra in the works which they will release after Fiji comes out. There is a hybrid HOF version coming out which looks pretty nice.
Wow.. this actually makes me want to .. no STOP stop... Asus Strix version looks gorgeous too, and.. the amd card is only a few days from being announced!
EVGA is releasing the 980Ti Kingpin soon and the pricing is very odd. Each card will have the exact same clocks but the price will vary depending on how high the chipped binned. Bottom bin is $850 and top is $1050. Normally it’s just a lottery and some people get good chips and some don’t. I wonder how well this will work out for them and the customers. http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/84824-evga-gtx-980-ti-kingpin-graphics-card-available-tomorrow/
Good choice. I love my 980 strix. It's dead silent, runs cool, and doesn't have coil whine like my 780ti.
There is always people to buy the scraps. I sold my 2 x 780tis in minutes of buying my 980ti Strix. So I'll sell this when Pascal comes out. When are intel due a refresh for Mobos? - My 3770k is still pretty fast. Its only 1k less on 3dMark against a friends 4970K devil's canyon @ 4.8ghz
Yep if Pascal ends up being amazing I'll sell my 980 and buy the equivalent Pascal card. I had no trouble selling my 780ti. It was a great decision too with 3GB and below of VRAM becoming obsolete in modern games. As far as CPUs go, Intel has delivered power savings for laptop and mobile users, but no meaningful performance improvement for desktop users since Sandy Bridge was released in 2011. I don't see my 4770k needing an upgrade any time in the foreseeable future.
This whole gen was basically a big disappointment because everyone had to use the same chip process as last gen. The 980 and 980 Ti were the only two chips that were even an improvement for Nvidia. AMD just released the same 3 year old Hawaii chips and somehow managed to catch up to the 980 with them. The Fury line isn't bad but horribly over priced. Oddly enough the best value this gen is the 980Ti because it's the only card that really beat last gen at about 35% faster. Pascal and Arctic island should be a good step forward in both speed and power. From what I've read AMD should beat Nvidia with the release because they got first rights to the memory.
I kind of doubt AMD could beat nvidia at this point. People had high hopes for Fury and look how that turned out. AMD is really just an empty shell of a company now. Hopefully someone buys ATI from them.
Re: Nvidia GTX 980 Ti Fury is the first attempt at something new, it may come good. AMD have decided to move to newer memory technologies before nVidia. HBM will probably be the way forward for high end cards and AMD have taken an early punt.
Nvidia have HBM 2.0 lined up. Next June should be an interesting time.. We could start having unholy unions http://www.anandtech.com/show/9740/directx-12-geforce-plus-radeon-mgpu-preview
Both companies will using HBM going forward but AMD might have an advantage by getting more of it first. They spent 7 years helping to develop it so it seems only fair. http://wccftech.com/amd-working-entire-range-hbm-gpus-follow-fiji-fury-lineup/#ixzz3qJgGlwcM
