PlayStation 4 to be revealed February 2013?

  1. It's a massive deal breaker for me as I collect games. I don't want to have a pile of stuff I can't play in the future because of anti-consumer DRM. Looks very likely that the PS4 will be the first next gen console I buy.

  2. Have M$ made any kind of comment about the legacy of X1 games? You can pick up and play NES games now but what happens in 20 years time when the X1 has no servers to talk to?

I have told Mrs Grim that I plan to get a PS4 around the end of Jan. She is pissed that I have spent so much on PS3 games and won't be able to play them on it but I told her I am keeping both in the living room for the time being. She then moaned about having two of the same console so I just started nodding and pretending to listen.

  3. I think my wife agreed I could pre-order a PS4 if I want earlier today. I've never bothered before but I could be very tempted for this machine.

  4. I got the Wii, 360 and PS3 on launch day so it is a bit weird now that I have a child and all that having to wait for things but it will only be a couple of months. You can be my guinea pig this time as I think last time you was a late adopter with PS3 and I was yours!

  5. If that turns out to be the case, then the pricing will probably be a non-factor in terms of consumer appeal. I'm interested in seeing what the tear-down costs really end up being for these two consoles, and how close to break-even they are for launch price. I think both companies would be crazy to take losses again on these.

  6. M$ will be paying more for bundled Kinect and Blu Ray royalties and Sony for the GDDR5 RAM, other than that they will probably cost the same. The headset and HDMI cable that Sony bundle will probably only cost them a few $s.

I doubt either are taking a loss, perhaps breaking even at worst as lets be honest the tech isn't overly revolutionary.

  7. I would think Microsoft is still going to lose a hell of a lot of sales for making a product they have to price $100 above the PS4, which is has been consistently been reported to be a bit more powerful.

I have no idea what MS was thinking with the constant DRM checks. I think they'll lose quite a few sales over that as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually had to dial back some of those restrictions.

  8. This is probably the time to invest in a new tv and build yourself a monsly games room.

I'll probably preorder this but not sure where from.

  9. These consoles just don't look that exciting to me, and I'm very happy with the home theater PC I built for media. My PS3 is never used for streaming at this point due to cinavia, just the occasional Blu-ray. I haven't played a game on it in several years. I'm probably going to sit this one out. If I get a console, it will probably be the slim model of the PS4 whenever that comes out, but only if the PS4 gets some really interesting exclusives. Xbox One is a non-starter due to the DRM. Although I'd say it's far more likely I'll use whatever money I would have spent on a console to build a second HTPC for the bedroom.

  10. I've seen enough that I've decided to buy a PS4. I thought I'd be looking at a $500 price. I have bought most of the consoles each generation, but I may stick with just the PC and PS4 this time around.

I'm not dealing with an always-on camera in my living room. That is just not something that can happen.

I'd like to have access to anything upcoming from the Zelda franchise, but I think the WiiU hardware is insultingly overpriced currently.

  11. That's a lot of vents

  12. You act like that's a bad thing. I bet it will run cool and quiet.

Overall the PS4 is seeming like a very sensibly designed console. The AMD hardware will be easy to program. They aren't being dicks about used games. And it looks like it has good ventilation, so hopefully we won't have a RROD or YLOD style fiasco with the thing.

  13. Sony have won. It just boils down to how much people want to play a game with Master Chief in. I like the look of Titanfall but I'm not buying an Xbox One. They said it'll come out on Xbox 360 so I may pick it up for that, but it'll look like arse. So maybe not.

  14. I'm just surprised at how large the openings appear to be. The PS3 was really well designed internally, that huge fan was a work of art.

I wonder where that circular vent they showed in the teasers is.

  15. I still prefer this one.

  16. Just found out KH3 and FF15 will be multi platform. Should have stayed with PS4, but they will be system sellers for both consoles.

  17. Title exclusivity, if you're a third party publisher, is a thing of the past. You'll rarely find that kind of stuff anymore. As you can tell from recent events, they only do that stuff with extra content now.

  18. I'm surprised no-ones pointed out the fact that $499 does not equate to £429, it's £320. So unless I'm missing something like a huge amount of tax waiting to be added to the US price we are being forced to pay the equivalent of £100 more than people in America. The PS4 is doing the same thing. $399 is not £349, £255. So both M$ and $ony are ripping us off?

  19. Sales tax isn't included in the US price so, including VAT, the difference isn't huge. Also, we get longer warranties so that needs to be covered.
