I started to post about Resistance 3 but was interrupted earlier. Anyway, I'm quite impressed with the level of improvement between R2, which was mediocre and obviously rushed by a short development time, and R3, which is one of the most impressive looking console shooters I've seen. The motion blur and lighting give it an substantially improved look. I've only played through the first few areas, but so far it has made a very positive impression of the game. Insomniac has done a fantastic job with visual trickery to make this game look like it's almost from a different generation from the first two Resistance games. For example, the farm area early in the game actually restricts where you can go with fences and other barriers, but they are able to create the illusion of a huge, detailed landscape while maintaining a very stable frame rate. I was really quite stunned at how impressive it looks. Some of the early areas in the underground camp of surviving humans reminds me a lot of Metro 2033 and allows you to roam around the camp a bit and listen to the dialogue between survivors. They are able to use this time to really build tension, and there was a particularly impressive audio recording I found regarding the untimely, gruesome demise of a poor kitty, Smokey. Here's a bit from the opening chapter, which will give you a good look at the motion blur and lighting that have changed the look so much. I was skeptical of R3 after being so disappointed with R2, but Insomniac appears to be back on track with the quality expected with Resistance and Ratchet games.
This would be an absolute must buy if it had R2's co-op mode; real pity they left that out. The single player is a massive improvement though, no question.
Just had a go on dead island, it's lacking a lot of polish but I can see it being a lot of fun in co-op. Whaddaya guys think?
it's 4 player coop. chi, i found the game to be enjoyable in single and coop sessions in different areas. you get a lot more immersion in the atmosphere (especially in act 2) in single player. but coop is awesome, although you lose the whole feel of survival horror at that point.
That's a nice option and we'll have to try and give it a go sometime. But the big co-op mode of R2 was a thing of such beauty that it's omission is an affront to God himself.
I'm not shure. Is it cheap yet? Sometimes we see big drops a few weeks after release. Is it a full price game? EH?
It's bleeming expensive is what it is. £47.99 in most places for some reason. £39.99 in GameOn and £37.99 on Amazon. My friend is trying to get me to get it straight away. All I know is it has vehicles and the game likes to autotarget at balls.
It feels a lot like mercenaries kinda in fun terms with a borderlands missiony structure with a bit of Left 4 Dead. Also a bit of Dead Rising amusement.
That's nice. Games in UK aren't released at a set price? In the US, like 98% of all X360 and PS3 games launch at $59.99
We have a recommended retail price bit very few stick to it. Normally £49.99 this gen. Most sell for less than that and a lot of games see a big price drop a few months after release.
Yeah, I was pretty shocked that a game like dead island was above £40 in most of the places I looked. I don't think I've spent full price on anything this gen that wasn't by naughty dog. Lol, just saw the Japanese version for sale on Play-Asia for £94.99
I don't know where you've been shopping mate, whenever I see a new game come out it's almost always £39.99, £45 tops.
