Red Alert 4: Ukraine's Revenge

Discussion in 'Everything Else' started by cmdrmonkey, Feb 24, 2022.

  1. There’s a Reddit post somewhere about how poor tanks are in urban warfare in general. They are meant for the plains and deserts.

Gulf war was 30 years ago. Boys, we old.

We got to remember that this is like day three. Ukraine seems to kicking ass. Poland also kicked ass against Nazis for weeks. Who knows how far Putin will take this. They expect air strikes tonight. But it is odd how shitty the Russians are doing so far. They got captured soldiers calling their moms back home!

I'm getting the impression that not only is their equipment complete shit but that their training has slipped too.

  3. lol I thought they were a military superpower. But I think this invasion was dumb for simple economic reasons. Everyone watched the USA fight 2 wars in the middle east. It left us a failing empire crippled with debt and incredibly un-united. So... the other superpower goes and does the same shit. Putin isn't nearly as smart as people hyped him to be. Dude's playing 2D tic-tac-toe with paper and pencil.

China probably laughing their asses off at so many unforced errors.

This shows how useless the cages are against Javelins. They're mostly useful for trapping Russians and making sure they burn with the tank.

I guess the doofuses didn't realize it actually has two charges. One to take care of ERA (and also cages) and a second one to destroy the tank.

The Ukranians also have the NLAW. It's a modern anti-tank system from the UK/Sweden that's also supposed to be decent, but not quite as good as the Javelin. It's much cheaper than the Javelin though. They're probably better against things like trucks and BMPs than tanks though.

Ukranians using drone strikes to destroy Russian convoys:

Putin is using 20th century weapons and tactics in a 21st century war.

  6. I think the game theory of nuclear weapons is you always call their bluff. Unless he's dying of cancer or something... I dunno.

He is 70. Some say he has declined from the calculating leader of… a few weeks ago… into some sort of dementia addled boomer.

And let’s be honest, an army that puts vodka in its cheerios is never going to be the most organized and disciplined invading force. Sure, they can send wave after wave against an invader once winter hits. But against modern equipment and a determined defense? I think Ukraine really exposed them. If you want to be an aggressor in war you really need to pick your spots.

  8. Yeah. I really bought into the Russian boogeyman thing. But they’ve been exposed and it’s gonna be hard for them to be taken as seriously as before.

I think the expectations are than rational actors will never use nuclear weapons. So even if Putin is an irrational actor people down the chair should have self preservation instincts. But I’d rather not test any of these theories lol.

Now Belarus wants to get more involved. So send in an even more dysfunctional and poorly equipped military?

  10. Putin has already lost more men and more equipment than the US did during its entire time in Iraq. Lol.

  11. I just read that Putin's black belt was revoked by the International Taekwondo Association. These sanctions are getting brutal. My concern is that Putin will take the gloves off and just start laying waste to Ukraine in a, "if I can't have it no one will", mentality.

  12. This is the weirdest war of all time. I say that with only video game warfare experience.

I always thought the fist move would be air strikes on military equipment, communications, and utilities. But Ukraine seems to be uninterrupted. They are about about to setup backup Starlink but their broadband and LTE never even went out lol.

Russia’s version of war seems like playing a dice roll RPG in real life. Random isolated tank explores terrain. Meets Ukraines and turn based attacks begin.

    Westwood Studios was fake news.

  13. Texas should hire Zellensky to keep their lights on once he retires.

  14. Tin foil hat time.

I can't help but feel that Corona was supposed to wipe half the population. Since it didn't, the patriots (from mgs) have decided to start a nuclear war.

The food the Russians were sent in with expired in 2015. They’re having to loot Ukrainian grocery stores to feed themselves.

So far this has been like the Fyre Festival of military invasions. Exploding death trap tanks. Expired food and not enough fuel. 40 mile long traffic jam. Drone and Javelin missile attacks. Entire world now hates Russia. Seriously who planned this thing?

Moldova appears to be the next target. Putin’s moronic henchman Lukashenko accidentally leaked it during a speech.

  17. Fyre Festival is the perfect analogy. Hyped by a guy who peaked like 10-15 years ago and his shiesty partner. Everybody who goes is hungry and grumpy and trying to find a way out. Everyone else watches from afar with a strong sense of schadenfreude. The local cook lady gets screwed but is saved by the goodwill donations of others.

    Let’s do tiger king.
Putin stuck his arm in the cage and now Russia will never financially recover from this.

So apparently the Russian paratroopers made a music video.

Putin has been using paratroopers like shock troops. They keep getting dropped in with no support and getting wiped out.

I mean the dude uses paratroopers the way I do when I'm playing Red Alert.

  19. It almost seems like whomever Putin was paying to keep the military modernized might have been keeping most of the money for themselves. Actually, that's kind of what Putin did during his rise to power.
