Samsung Galaxy S2 vs. iPhone 4S

  1. And then you'll start wearing pink and get a boyfriend. It's a slippery slope with Apple products.

One day you're buying an iPhone. The next you're sneaking out to go to gay mens' bath houses. Are you sure you want to start down this path?

  2. The biggest knock against the GS2 wasn't the screen, but lack of world-phone capabilities. I have some travel coming up, and the thought of switching to a BB pisses me off. I might think about holding off in case the Nexus Prime hits sprint by Christmas, but I get yearly upgrades so I feel like I'm losing money by not upgrading immediately.

  3. You in premier gold? Once you use your last premier upgrade, it'll be gone forever. Sprint officially removed the premier program earlier this month. Once you use it, you'll be moved to the 20 month upgrade program.

  4. Well... isn't that some top notch bullshit...

  5. Indeed. Sprint says it's so they can keep their unlimited data services and whatnot. Of course, when you look at the writings on the wall, there's also that money they dumped to get the iphone and their upcoming LTE conversion.

  6. Damn dude, this is such a bummer. I really wanted to try the new iPhone, just out of sheer boredom with Android. But I don't know if I want to commit to it for 2 years.

I may have to consider the port out/back in ruse they pull on slickdeals, whenever the service fee goes up by 10 cents.

  7. I think when you run your options, your best bet may be to get the subsidized iphone and if there are any hot new android phones next year on sprint that tickle your fancy, you can maybe sell it on craigslist or ebay? Since iphones are so popular, they generally have a decent resell value. It's sort of a gamble though since Sprint is a small carrier which makes it questionable if the sprint iphone will still have high resell value.

Samsung rescheduled their event to Oct. 19th so just sit tight and see what goodies they're going to show and what ICS brings to the table.

  8. You might want to consider AT&T if you decided on the iPhone, as the download speeds on GSM have basically been verified as being just as good or better than phones that are labelled as 4G.

  9. What's all this world phone malarkey? I think pretty much every phone in the UK is triband at the very minimum.

  10. The US is a retarded place for cell phones if you live here. A majority of people here don't know this since not too many people travel abroad on a regular basis, let alone know how carriers outside the US work.

There's four main networks, ATT, Verizon, Sprint, and Tmobile USA.

Among that, ATT and Tmobile USA are GSM. Sprint and Verizon are CDMA.

From there, every phone that is released in the US is designed for each specific carrier for reasons I will go into after this. Familiar with the Samsung Galaxy S phones in Europe? We have 4 different versions (one on each carrier) in the US.

Phones that are released in the US are locked to their carrier. There is only one exception that comes to mind, which is the Nexus phones.

Even though ATT and Tmobile USA are both GSM, their 3G networks run on different frequencies. If you buy an ATT phone, unlock it, and use it on Tmobile USA, you'll be stuck on edge, and vice versa.

And now we have the 4G game where the carriers are using different technologies. It'll soon be all LTE but then again, everyone will be on different frequencies.

Using mobile phones shouldn't be this complex so I wish the US would be more like Europe that regard.

  11. Indeedy.

Concrete KO'd gorilla glass. Plastic skated by.

  12. That video would be far more convincing if they did the iPhone sections in one continuous take, rather than editing cuts together and never showing the condition of the phone before it's dropped. Show the condition of the iPhone before the drop, drop it, then show the resulting damage without using any cuts.

  13. I smell a fish!!

  14. Not surprising. My mother has shattered the glass on her iPhone 4 multiple times. Putting glass on a phone is retarded.

  15. The iPhone 4S uses Gorilla Glass. The Samsung Galaxy S2 uses Gorilla Glass.

Wow...apparently you can create videos of tests to make it look durable too.

  16. And...OF COURSE...Gorilla Glass isn't some niche product in the electronics world.

    $1 billion...yeah, that's really retarded.

  17. Yeah, of course the GS2 uses gorilla glass. But only the iPhone is covered entirely in glass. It looks nice, but comes at the cost of practicality. If you drop it and the glass cracks it's way more noticeable than scratches and chips on plastic.

On another note, I took a look at that GS2 again. I just can't see the need for a phone so goddamn huge. I think 4" is the sweet spot for phones.

  18. The front screen of the phone is where 99% of the practicality is located. There's no difference in the material. You can crack the iPhone's Gorilla Glass. You can crack the Galaxy S2's Gorilla Glass.

  19. That video would be far more convincing if they did the GS2 sections in one continuous take, rather than editing cuts together and never showing the condition of the phone before it's dropped. Show the condition of the GS2 before the drop, drop it, then show the resulting damage without using any cuts.

  20. I could create a video, using the same edits as that one, showing the Samsung Galaxy S2 shattering on shag carpet, or the iPhone 4S showing no damage after being dropped from a second story window onto a pile of jagged rocks.
