Forget this Mac business for a second - did you just use a smiley? For shame alterego, FOR SHAME. PS - start an iPhone thread; I have some questions!
Hey, smiley's are big in the CULT OF MAC...didn't you know that? Take a look at the MacRumors forums sometime IF YOU DARE! Plus, many are animated in a charming and/or horrifying way, depending on your CULT STATUS.
I find smiley's actually look retard, especially with clean forums such as ours. They look out of place.
I think it's an issue with the security certificate (or lack thereof). I think this is also why alterego had the site blocked at work. Ichiban is supposed to be installing something.
The error you are getting, regarding the security token, is part of punBB. The forum has a timeout setting which is set very low. When writing posts that take more than say a minute or two then it triggers the timeout causing the error. I've adjusted the timeout to be much longer, (more than enough time to compose a fairly long post), so we shouldn't be seeing that other message again. As for Alteregos problem, I have no idea what is triggering the filters at his workplace to block the forum. I'm looking into getting a cheap security cert for the site though which should solve that problem. Edit: It's not actually an error, it's just a warning that you've been inactive; so it's not really broken.
Everyone who was a moderator is now an admin. You aren't an admin in the sense that Ichi and I are admins where you can actually access the server. Your status has just been changed from mod to admin in punBB. My little trolling/spamming test earlier with Professor WC Nicholson showed me that the mod setting doesn't give you guys enough power to actually respond to anything, and trying to tweak the mod setting to give mods more power has some annoying side effects. And trust me, if this place gets as big as the old site, you'll be dealing with characters much worse than Nicholson.
They have to be assigned to specific forums, which leaves you with that annoying "moderated by..." under each forum. Admins can edit everything. I also get the impression that it's hard to tell what's going on during a troll/spam attack without administrator control panel access. I'm still puzzled that phisix was the only one who noticed the ip addresses were the same.
It confused me somewhat too....The cool thing about this place is that since we know the IP's of visitors I can block certain IP's not only on the forum but in the server control panel aswell; we can remain relatively douche free
Mods and admins can see IPs. Probably a good thing, because there are a lot of douches who will keep re-registering under different names as they get banned. They can still do it, but they'll have to be on a different internet connection.
You should look into this. Having that many admins is a recipe for disaster. http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/21436/how-to-remove-moderated-by-blablabla-blalabla-etc/
Yeah, I know I looked into doing that, but changed my mind after my little test yesterday. It's six admins and they're all reliable. Khaid has been here since the beginning and probably has more right to be running this place than I do. If we had given a bunch of n00bs that much power I'd be worried. But the admins/mods have all been here for many years. Phisix has already run a fairly successful forum, and I was probably going to give him admin status anyway. Besides, they don't have access to the server or anything, they just have admin status in punBB. The actual mod option doesn't give enough power to moderate effectively in my opinion. Having another chairmansteve situation would be a real recipe for disaster. The original site went unmoderated for long stretches, and there was no one to take over when he lost interest. With six admins, something catastrophic would have to happen for this place to ever die. When one gets bored and loses interest, another can take over. I won't be appointing any more mods/admins any time in the near future. I think we're good until this place gets gigantic.
Oh, I thought Admin meant you could install things to the webserver. I wasn't saying anybody would intentionally do anything, but some sort of installation fucking disaster.
