Thanks for the oh so on topic critique of my clearly incomprehensible attempt at the English language. I'll take greater care to avoid using outdated versions of words in my next thesis casual user feedback of a video game.
Face into air-conditioner style This really is a brutal game. I need some more time to play, I was too busy being sociable on the weekend... what's that shit all about?
Just started on this (free for PS+ subscribers). It's pretty good so far, though the different tactics required for fighting different bad guys is a bit unclear and the difficulty is all over the place. Shame the combat feels a little off to me; it's good but not batman good. Edit: PS3 updates really are shit at times. This one needs over a gig. Jebus. Somehow I doubt I'll bother with that.
It'll all make sense to you once you put more time into it. The combat will become extremely straightforward as you learn what enemies do what and when you gain more abilities
Maybe I guess. I've got a real love/hate thing for it at the moment. Checkpointing is dreadful on the ps3; a real throwback. Had a very annoying club fight earlier; kept getting killed at the 3rd fight which meant replaying the first 2 every fricking attempt. How are you meant to take down knife thugs?
Very carefully. That club fight is quite tough due to how early it is in the game and you don't have quite the amount of abilities to dispatch the guys in a suave manner. Basically, don't get surrounded. Keep running around the whole club. That fight took me around a good 10-15min due to the fact I kept running around to get pot shots at guys when they get singled out.
Using the fish helped a bit; the bit where you go down the stairs was what kept getting me. The final fight was easy the final time as I didn't get surrounded in the toilets. I think more fights like that may finish my interest in this - just don't have the patience for replaying stuff.
Truthfully, I can only recall that part being the one I replayed about 3-4 times due to dying. The rest of the game doesn't have moments like this, mostly because by that time, they'll be shootouts or your character is already developed (more hand to hand combat abilities, more stamina/hp). I'll warn you about the triad shootouts in the sewers though (where you hack the security cameras for sidemissions). Those are above average difficulty.
I read something AKS wrote about getting a high face value and triad suits (helps you level up from memory). What's that about, eh? EH? Edit: did a sewer mission earlier. See what you mean. Did it first time but the randomly appearing enemies were annoying. How many of them are there? And can you keep weapons in this? I keep losing my guns.
As your character progresses doing missions/side missions how you did on those missions improve your face value which grants access to special outfits. It'll also allow you to by better pieces of clothing from the clothing shops. You'll notice specific outfits and pieces of clothing grant different abilities. I don't recall the amount of enemies in the sewer but it was alot more than I expected. So basically my routine was to move forward quick and take out the enemies in front as quick as possible so you can use their cover. Then the enemies spawn from behind you where the entrance was. It makes it much easier if you're ready for them. They seem to spawn this way all of the time so that may give you a piece of mind. The weapons thing seems to just be a side-thought by the devs so it's a little annoying. You'll notice you'll get a gun when there's a mission that's going to require you to have one. Otherwise, you'll be running around with fisticuffs. The closest thing I had to a permanent weapon with the golden cleaver. I preordered the game so I had the triad enforcer car which always has it in the trunk when I needed it. It's basically just a cleaver that has infinite durability.
Is triad the area that needs the XP boost from your experience? I seem to be really high on the cop side already. I did that sewer mission - are there any more it just the one? Also, there any point in upgrading your apartment? I've bought somethings but wasn't sure if there was any point in doing it.
You'll get more triad experience doing triad side missions. I'm not sure where you are in the game so far, but there's quite a bit of them. You'll meet a guy that gives you missions to steal specific cars and return them to his garage. You can also meet up guys that need a wheelman. You can also hijack the security trucks. The sewer missions are just part of the triad drug bust missions. They're spread around hong kong as you drive to different parts of it. Upgrading your apartment is also kind of a dumb side thought for the devs too. You end up with different "homes" so there really is no point to upgrading it. On top of that, it's not easy finding the people that sell you stuff either. You'll buy a piece of furniture and totally forget about it since you'll rarely ever return home until you hit a part in the story that takes you home.
Just met Uncle Po and done a few missions in central. I'm definitely getting more into it now - though the car races are somewhat annoying. Wish they didn't have little scripted bits in. Cheers for the tips.
The races in this are pissing me off. I hope there's not too many on the main storyline. The elastic banding and randomness (AI, traffic and geometry) are not a great combo. Also, did my first trace. I have no idea what I'm meant to do. I fail. Then have to drive for 2 minutes to restart. Jesus. It's a real shame these kind of rough edges would have been so easy to remedy.
You're making this game sound like crap. It was going to be the next game I play but now I'm not sure.
The races are just optional. It's part of the side stuff to do if you get bored or something. I found them to be no challenge. I did like five of them and won all five by a mile. What do you mean by trace? I'm not recalling what that is.
I think I'm done with the main mission races. They were ok but I'm not going to go out of my way to play the optional ones. I don't like the artificialness of them. The phone tracing was the thing I meant. Figured it out second time around - the guidance was just too vague for me. Over half way now - got a lot of stuff unlocked and that triad gold cleaver thing. Finding it a lot easier now, that club mission is definitely the worst so far. @bfun: it's a decent/good game but I'd only recommend it if the price was cheap. Just feels a little lacking and the fun factor didn't match up to Saint's Row 3, the last game like this I played.
Yeah I was wondering if I should wait a bit before I play it. The more serious nature of Sleeping Dogs might be a downer after SR3.
