Slick Deals

  1. Tesco had a 8 inch Archos 80 cobalt tablet on sale for £50 yesterday. Picked one up. Screen isn't amazing but the rest of the tablet is pretty good. It's now ₤69 but out of stock on most places.

  2. I'm more intrigued by your use of 2 different pound signs. What's that about, eh?

  3. It seems my phone keyboard produces two different pound signs depending on if I tap or hold the key. £ ₤

  4. I'm not entirely sure if this qualifies as a slick deal but I just bought a HD PVR. Since I'm strapped for space on my laptop hard drive I bought an external HDD to go with it, 2 terabytes should do I think.

  9. Some good deals but a lot of not so good deals. I was looking at Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and it's a $50 download! The coupon takes it down to about $37 but that's the price the consoles are going for. The Amazing Spider-Man is an okay deal at $30. Pretty sure I got King's Bounty: Armored Princess for about $8 and it's $18 here.

    Anything else good in there?

  10. Hitman: Absolution Professional Edition (PC Steam Digital Download) $10

  11. Looking for an awesome SSD for my desktop before I do the Windows 10 upgrade. Let me know if you happen to see a good deal. I'd like to get something with a relatively high capacity. I've waited on upgrading primarily because they were too small and too expensive, but now seems like a decent time to upgrade.

  12. 1TB Samsung 850 EVO

You will need to upgrade with your current HDD, then clean install onto the SSD. You really can't go wrong with Intel or Samsung for an SSD. Other brands are a mixed bag.

  13. Thanks for the suggestions.

Seagate was out due to concerns about durability.

I usually went with Western Digital for HDDs, but I wasn't sure what was best for SSDs.

  14. There was a SD front page deal yesterday. 480GB for $140.

  15. Hard to go wrong with an 850 EVO.

  16. The Samsung 850 Pro, Intel 730 series, and Intel 530 series are also good if you can find a good deal on them. They're more expensive than the EVO because they use MLC rather than TLC NAND. MLC is more durable. But in typical use cases, it probably doesn't matter. SSDs are far more durable than mechanical hard drives and can last decades regardless of whether they use TLC or MLC. You will probably toss the drive because it got too old before you will ever wear it out.

  18. I decided to go with the 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO. I found it slightly cheaper for just over $350 with free Prime shipping on Amazon. This should be a huge upgrade over my ancient HDD, and it has the same capacity.
