Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions Dont think it will ever happen that we wont be able to buy our own casings etc. Theres probally to much profit from people wanting a cool-looking case.
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions Try Xmarks, its a nice little add-on that keeps them in sync with a cloud based account. When you want to move them simply install marks and login. They also make those book marks available online for when your away from home.
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions But what about when they come up with front-mounted psu's like they did bottom mounted psu's. What if they came out with a case that could fly?? or drive you to work. Surely you'd upgrade than! what if it was big enough to live in and instead of the computerized house you'd have a houserized computer. Would HAVE to upgrade for that! What if your case WAS your work, it wouldn't have to drive you to work cuz it WAS your work you'd be fired if you had not this case
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions I went with the Antec 550W. I also complained so much to OCZ that they're replacing the old power supply. I'll put the replacement up on ebay. I won't be buying from OCZ or PC Power and Cooling in the future.
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions I installed the new PSU last night and thankfully the old one didn't take anything out when it blew. Ran prime 95 overnight just to be safe and everything seems fine.
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions I called Seagate and talked them into sending me something else as a replacement for my dead 1.5TB 7200.11 drive. The lady I spoke to was well aware of the issues with that model. They're sending me one of their 1.5TB 5900RPM/64mb cache green drives instead. I'm not sure if that's an improvement or not. Seagate has really gone down the toilet in recent years. They used to make good drives, but their high capacity stuff has been garbage.
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions Time for my first n00b question. I found out today that my new laptop has 2 USB 3.0 ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports, how do I tell the difference? I looked online and that suggests that USB 3.0 ports are blue bit I don't remember noticing any of them being a different colour but at the same time I wasn't exactly looking for it. I won't be able to check until I get home but I thought someone around these parts might know. EDIT: Don't worry I found a picture of the sides of the laptop and 2 of the ports are indeed blue while the others aren't. EDIT EDIT: And to make me look even more of a n00b they have ss next to the USB logo (super speed).
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions All processors are based on a micro architecture which change during the corse of a brands lifetime. For example with the mobile core i CPU's most of them have been based on the Arrandale micro architecture with the exception of the early i7's which were based on Clarksfield. With each new micro architecture usually comes a line of improvements, performance increases and quite often a lower power consumption. Some differences between Arrandale(left) and Sandy Bridge(Right). 2 cores < 2 or 4 cores 3-4MB L2 cache < 3-8MB L2 cache Turbo Boost 1.0 < Turbo Boost 2.0 Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (on package) < Intel HD 3000 (on die) 800MHz to 1066MHz DDR3 memory < 1333MHz to 1600MHz DDR3 memory 720p wireless display < 1080p wireless display HDMI 1.3 < HDMI 1.4 + 3D support (this obviously only applies when using integrated GPU)
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions Ugh. Now the replacement Seagate 1.5TB is giving me issues. The clicking is starting up again, and the system will randomly lock up and give me a black screen that says "no bootable device." I give up. Fuck these drives. They have a well deserved reputation for being awful.
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions I was wondering what those "my clean pc" and "max my speed" commercials I kept seeing on tv were for. Apparently they're both from a company that's a known distributor of spyware, and it actually puts spyware on your computer. This proves yet again that half the shit you see advertised on tv is a scam of some kind.
Sonu\'s n00bish PC questions My monitor isn't waking up after the PC goes to sleep. It flashed briefly and then goes black. Think it's the monitor or the card? Powering the monitor off and on or resetting the DVI cable does nothing. I'm testing with my back-up monitor now but it uses the HDMI port and the other uses DVI.
