Fuck Sony. They used anti-terrorism laws to find a kid that tinkered with a product (PS3) he rightfully paid for. It's about time somebody teaches these goddamn corporations a lesson, it sure as hell isn't going to be the corrupt ass government.
I think there's a difference between "tinkering" and breaking the law. Don't you find it funny how he broke the then the law broke him? The ironing is delicious.
Seems hackers have made off with the direct debit details of nearly 11'000 customers from Spain, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands too. That means that hackers now have all of the bank details of these people as well as the personal information from their account. Great going!!
Bullshit. That guy didn't break any law. The charges were some of the biggest stretch of the imagination I've ever heard. Unfortunately, your average person is going to go broke fighting a multi-national corporation in a legal battle so you have little choice but to settle. Fuck Sony.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_Fraud_and_Abuse_Act The law is intended to be used for national security purposes: It clearly isn't designed to be used by a private corporation to shit all over a kid who hacked his game console. But of course, the US Government and multi-national corporations are one in the same these days.
Last night on the news they said Sony was running old versions of Apache without a firewall. Seriously? I haven't managed an Apache server in 7 years but I'm pretty sure thats still basic 101 stuff.
I've read somewhere that the Apache was so old that they even didn't have to rely on a 0day vulnerability. Instead, they've exploited an old, well known hole in this specific version of the server. Using the hole, they've injected some php code to the server which in turn has been executed under priviledges sufficient to connect to the database. All this clearly contradicts Sony's claim that :
Apparently Square Enix has been hacked, but it doesn't sound quite as major as Sony's problems...mostly email addresses, but there were also some people's resumes. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13394968
Bad luck continues. This time Sony Thailand has been hacked and a phishing page was planted on one of their servers. http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00002160.html
So if they know who did it why don't they just bust their ass and everyone's ass who helped hide their ass?
