Sony online pass?

  1. Pretty much. It'd help your argument if you actually knew how much it costs to develop a mainstream game on any of the modern consoles before you jumped to conclusions but the fact is since the "dawn of videogames" the cost of developing them has increased as the technology has improved. They're not making PONG any more.

You've also kind of answered your own question..of course developers aren't making money when people who are tight asses who WANT to play games don't bother to buy them until they're second hand. Have a think about your own logic there; you're effectively saying that you're angry developers charge more because YOU want to pay less by not supporting them. Yeah great idea!

You're also making a very common mistake in believing that developers and publishers are one and the same; they aren't. Publishers can make money from a broad range of games that they put to market. Developers can only make money from the games that they develop and sell. In effect, they need YOUR support in order to survive and make the next game. If you think that because Activision are making BILLIONS from sales that developers can work for nothing you're sadly mistaken.

Yeah, they don't need that extra money at all when there's only a story every week nearly about developers having to lay off staff or start up studios going under. Sheer lunacy to believe that people should actually be paid for their work when you want to mooch your games and not support the people who make them.

Yeah, because those servers and all the other stuff behind the scenes are paid for by good intentions. Economics? Pfft. Who cares? Why don't developers go back to a simple bartering system and exchange games for chicken or corn?

  2. It's not really an "extra" charge if you buy their games new. Sony doesn't charge anything for online play on PSN. They've often provided dedicated servers for their big first and second party games. But they're too greedy for trying to prevent second hand dealers, who CREATED NOTHING and CONTRIBUTED NOTHING to the expenses Sony has for online services, from ripping them off?

Are you aware of the expenses the incur for development, marketing, or online services? It seems like you'd need to know how much they are making and how much costs they've eaten to really make any sort of sensible statement about them having "enough" for what they've created and what services they've provided. They've spent a hell of a lot on the PS3 over the past few years and massively improved it compared to what it was at launch.
