So fast forward to now.. EA announced 1.3 million old republic subscribers.. that's 400,000 less than their 1.7 million subscribers back in Q3. Also, Bioware announced layoffs to the Old Republic dev team. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=462269 I think it's pretty clear that the only wow killer is going to be blizzard itself.
It's pretty well fizzled out and died from what I've been hearing. I'm pissed because they half assed Mass Effect 3 so they could get this out only to have it flop.
There's now talk of this going free to play as it's lost so many subscribers. http://www.shacknews.com/article/74363/star-wars-the-old-republic-looking-at-free-to-play
And it's official, this is free to play. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57483844-1/star-wars-the-old-republic-adds-free-to-play/ What a waste. They should have just made Kotor 3 or put more effort into ME3.
I think my wife would divorce me if I started up another MMO after the WoW years..... Better go and look into where I sign up.
Seems it is going to be quite limited as to what you can do but its free so I might give it a go, show you my crazy MMO skills. It says coming soon and the FAQ says Fall (Autumn) so not just yet.
Wasn't Guild Wars supposed to be all about big breasted women in S&M fetish gear. That's what I gathered from looking at the box art.
Re: Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic that was another supposed "wow killer" that everyone in the wow forums were talking about a few years ago. The game looked horrible so i had no idea what they were talking about. It's a korean game. i dont know why people use the term "wow killer" so loosely. there really is no possible wow killer until blizzard releases another mmo. even the juggernauts prior to wow (everquest) would fail if you put them against it.
That seems to be the way of things. These alternative MMOs might draw a few people away from WoW for a few months, but they always end up going back to WoW in the long run. There's really no point of getting into an MMO unless it has a huge community and is going to be successful in the long run, and WoW is the only MMO like that right now.
Eden Eternal has a huge following but that is a free to play game. It is like a cel shaded WoW but less on the combat. I played it to level 30 before I move out of my flat.
might look into that. I didn't like wow, it's like a tease, cartoony but not cutesy. pissed me off to no end... until I pulled the plug than it was THE end.
