Re: Dudebros and PC Games Just Don't Mix Yeah but I seem to make a lot of things difficult that I'm guessing shouldn't be. Like trying to get that ez cap capture card to fucking work properly. £17 wasted on that piece of shit that puts out worse quality pictures than my damn phone.
Re: Dudebros and PC Games Just Don't Mix I'm giving this a go, the textures all look like arse though, what's a good mod?
Re: Dudebros and PC Games Just Don't Mix This guy does a pretty good job of laying out what you need to do to not get buttraped in this game. Go the Navy route and emphasize standard weapons, hacking, and maintain early on. The assault rifle is the best weapon in the game, so you need to be able to use, upgrade, and maintain it. Also, horde the anti-personnel rounds. You need them later. http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/185706-system-shock-2/faqs/14415 Mod stuff: Mod manager: http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=527.0 Rebirth mod: http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=8.0 Texture Mod: http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=22.0
Under controls, click load, and then click on standard FPS controls. Those controls are fine really. You don't walk much in this game. There's always things chasing after you. I don't know about lean forward, but you do need lean left and lean right, which are bound to Q and E under standard FPS controls. You have to be able to shoot from cover without getting hit. The turrets and the mechs will take you down real quick if you don't shoot from cover. Also, there are a couple of parts where you have to insert recharged batteries or circuit boards into things. You just drag the part from your inventory to the slot. I found that confusing the first time I played. Also, listen to all of the audio logs. The voice acting is really good, but on top of that they usually give you a clue as to what you're supposed to be doing.
Did you like SS2, or am I overselling it in your opinion? @armadeadn If you have issues with the controls getting glitchy, install the mod manager, go to tools, and click fix controls. http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=78.0
It was a very good game, but I do think you're over hyping it just a tad. I have the same problem describing Journey. Any attempt to do so just made me sound like a religious nut experiencing rapture.
I think people tend to get a bit irrational with their favorite stuff. SS2 just hit all the right notes with me: great villain, good music and voice acting, very moody and atmospheric, and strong RPG elements. I think I actually like it more than the Half-Life games as crazy as that sounds.
More like I WIN! I had it up and running with improved textures and models before you even fixed your start up crash! My Kompooter skillz R L337.
I did find Shodan creepy when it was revealed in one of those videos you showed. I kind of wish I hadn't seen it now as I bet it's unnerving the first time you play it and see that shit.
The game crashed when I tried to choose the Navy. I reloaded and it worked the second time around. However I now can't take my 3rd year of service as it crashes when I approach the shuttle, every time. Also there was a problem that prevented me from interacting with stuff in my inventory, managed to fix that using the SS2MM. But now can't play the game as it fails.
Maybe try a new save game? I don't know why you're having so many issues. Game works perfect for me. Maybe its the crappy integrated video in your laptop.
I get the impression this game just doesn't play nice with laptop integrated video. http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=3573.0 If you had a desktop with a real AMD/ATI or nVidia graphics card, it would probably run fine. But that's nothing unique. It's the case with many/most PC games. I don't know what to tell you. It's an awesome game that's totally worth playing if you ever manage to get it running. Knowing how much you like Elder Scrolls and FO3, I really thought you'd like it.
Just from the training sections I can really see how much Bioshock borrows from this game. It's like they're the same game just in different settings... and Bioshock is as you say a dumbed down consolised version.
No, but I will find a download later and see if it works and what this fuss if all about, although it may not be able to use a controller since its an old game..
