More bizarre sleeping behavior. This corgi apparently climbs into the trash can himself. He likes sleeping like this for some reason.
well if it was always right there by the 'hole in the wall' it's actually a pretty good position :| (the floor would be too low). I was also told that humans are the only species that really needs rest so they can sleep. I honestly don't know when my dogs are asleep... could be any time that they're still if what I was told is true lol. So maybe it's comfortable :|
Dogs seem to like sleeping in either confined, den-like spaces, or places where they can be on guard. I guess the trash can is a good combination of the two.
Flint River Ranch http://www.flintriver.com/ Adalyn has allergies, and Charlie has issues with acid reflux, so we don't feed them crap like Purina. They like the flint river duck and oatmeal food. It seems to be a pretty good mid grade food. The high end stuff like Orijen is too expensive, and our dogs didn't actually like it that much when they tried it. We also tried Nutro, which is supposed to be a reasonably priced, healthy food, but again, the dogs hated it. They just wouldn't eat when we put it down. As long as whatever you get is high in protein and doesn't use fillers like corn, and your dog likes it, you should be fine.
I was feeding my dogs Taste of the Wild for a while because I got it on sale. It was the wild bird one. I think they liked it better than people food. Now I'm feeding them Chicken Soup for the pet lover. They seem to like it and it not too expensive.
I had heard good things about Taste of the Wild from our dog trainer. I guess she feeds it to her Aussies. Haven't gotten around to trying it though. Our dogs seem to be doing well on the flint river.
Well tonight was shit. I got home from work and I found one of my dogs not moving out in the yard. I check him out and he acts fine but he can't walk. He wont get up on his front legs. So I have to take him to the doc and he doesn't know whats wrong so then I take him to the ER and they aren't sure either. They want to do X-rays but it's like $300 and it already cost me $200. So they drug him up and I brought him home. If he isn't doing well tomorrow I'll take him back to the doc. The x-rays will be a lot cheaper in the day time. At first they though he might have broke his legs but then they though he just strained his hamstrings or something. I have no freaking idea what the damn dog did. He was laying near a planter drop off thing but it was only 24 inches high at the most. My other dog was going all crazy when I got home. Wish she could talk.
Charlie has occasional problems with tendinitis, which will cause him to limp and favor one leg. It came on suddenly the first time and we thought he had broken something, and ended up doing expensive and ultimately unnecessary x-rays. I'm not sure why both legs would be affected, and I can't believe a two foot drop would cause the dog to fracture both legs. I wonder if it could be a neurological problem, like cervical myelopathy or radiculopathy.
Well I took my dog to get X-rays and the news was bad. He had pretty much destroyed both of his wrist. One had badly damaged tendons and the other was just shredded. The bones didn't line up any more. It was going to require orthopedic surgery. The cost was around $6000 and that didn't include follow up surgery's which could cost thousand more. Recovery would take months and there was no guarantee it would work perfectly. So I had to make a really difficult decision. I'll spend that kind of money on a family member but I wont spend that kind of money on a family pet. He was in pain and was never going to walk again. I decided to put him down. I also decided I wanted to be there when they did it. I went into a little room and they brought Bailey in. He was so happy to see me. His face lit up and his tail was wagging. They had him on powerful pain killers so he was trying to walk but kept falling over. I kept petting him and told him to lay down. He did and I put my hand near his nose so he could smell me. Then they started to give him the injections. Within a few moments he laid down on his side. He started to clumsily lick his nose and then it just stopped with his tongue hanging out. Now I feel like I just killed my best friend. Bye bye Bailey. I wish I could pet you one more time.
Fuck that's sad. Dogs are some of the best friends you'll ever have. They give unconditional love which is something you'll almost never get from another human.
My Dad's gone through like 3 cats in 2 years, they just go out and come back home not being able to use their legs or something like that. Sorry you had to go through that, cat's and dog's bones are so fragile. Plus if they lose their legs they lose their instinct for survival. My dad refused to put the last cat down and just let it starve itself to death... seemed cruel. In the last hours of his life he got up, looked for his master and just slept. He doesn't own cats any more.
Corgis are the next generation of pets. They don't have any legs. I think eventually they'll evolve to the point where they're just furry snails.
Sounds like your father was the one who was harming the cats if anything. @Bfun: I'm very sorry to hear what happened. A friend of mine had to put his dog down due to cancer a few years ago, it was a very sad time indeed.
My parents put the German Shepherd I grew up with down while I was away at college. She had stomach cancer. They didn't tell me until almost a month later because they knew I'd be heartbroken and it happened right when I was taking a bunch of finals.
