https://thegameawards.com/nominees The Game Awards nominations for 2021 have been announced, and there have been some puzzling omissions. Game of the Year: Deathloop It Takes Two Metroid Dread Psychonauts 2 Ratchet and Clank Resident Evil Village There is no way all six of these games are better than Returnal and Forza Horizon 5. I'm getting vibes that they are going to give most of the awards to Deathloop given it has the most nominations. It also looks like Kena should take a few of these very easily. Ratchet, Returnal, and Forza Horizon 5 seemed like the S-tier games of 2021 that belonged on any GotY list, and the fact that only 1 of 3 are in their list is puzzling.
Interesting no mention for Disco Elysium: The Final Cut. It dethroned HL2 and GTA5 as the highest rated PC game of all time.
I'm not sure how they are handling new versus updated or expanded games. Nier: Replicant is apparently eligible and should therefore easily take best music in pretty much any year it's nominated. The PS5 version of Ghost of Tsushima has noticeably better audio than Deathloop, but that didn't get nominated for anything presumably because it's counted as a 2020 game. They may view Disco as a 2020 game as well.
