The Great US vs UK Food Debate

Discussion in 'Everything Else' started by supersonic, Jan 30, 2011.

  1. I'd bet the ingredients work better than you think. I've had surf n turf burgers and quail egg burgers on their own. This basically combines them and tops off some caviar and truffle. But yeah, I wouldn't pay more than $150-200. The cheaper fried fish eggs in china town taste better than caviar anyway.

  2. I don't know. Saying ground Kobe beef is better that regular ground beef is like saying dust from high grade diamonds is better than dust made from low grade diamonds. Once it's ground it probably doesn't matter anymore. Or maybe it does.

  3. Fine dining isn't about or worth the cost, it's the experience. You fucking Big Mac munching philistines.

  4. For me, a burger should should allow you to taste the beef patty mainly. If it's a garbage ass patty like from a fast food restaurant, then yes, 5000 toppings is no big deal.

But if you're getting a quality burger which uses high quality beef, why in the world would you drown that out with 5000 toppings? Throw your money in a fire at that point.

  5. So whats up with the edible gold foil on the bun? I bet that adds $1500 to the price.

  6. That gold leaf is probably the cheapest part of that burger besides the bun.

You can get 10 sheets of 24ct gold leaf for £2.99 on Amazon.

  7. Pretty sure that's Kobe gold leaf which cost a lot more.

I'm not surprised to see that guy recommend Costco/Kirkland. Costco tends to have higher quality stuff than your average grocery store. They are one of the few places you can easily find real olive oil for instance, and it comes in huge quantities too!

Also, real snapper is not hard to find in S Florida, as it is caught here, and they usually bring you the whole fish. Back when my stepdad had a fishing boat, we used to catch snapper sometimes and bring it home and grill it. In the rest of the country though, yeah you're probably eating something fake.

  9. I think if a business is being honest they are supposed to call it Kobe-style beef. Real Kobe beef wasn't legal to import into the US until 2012 which is well after the restaurants started selling Kobe labeled burgers. Even now there is only one slaughter house in the world that is certified to ship Kobe beef to the US. Not sure about the UK.

  10. You have to get very savvy about food labels. Nothing in the US food supply is what it claims to be and our corrupt govt is super lenient. Companies abuse branding gimmicks to prey on consumers. Many products are 'brands' instead of the product you think you're buying. Companies can actually sell something like MegaCorp Lobster. Consumers think it's lobster from MegaCorp. But they are marketing 'MegaCorp Lobster' which doesn't have to be lobster at all. Organic labels don't mean non-GMO, which is the official label. 'GMO free' can be used as a brand and means nothing.

I actually support EU style regulations on food supply.

  11. Here is another reason to vote for trump. He wants to eliminate food safety regulations.

  12. I agree. Having a carefully regulated food supply is one of the main reasons Europeans are so much healthier than Americans.

  13. Tried Church's Chicken the other day. If KFC is 4/10 and Popeye's is 5/10 this place would be 4.5 /10.

Publix actually has better fried chicken than most fast food chains I've tried.

    • agree agree x 1
  15. When I was a kid, I preferred Church's to KFC...seemed crispier/crunchier and not as heavy. Haven't had fast food fried chicken in a long time though.

  16. Most fast food fried chicken makes my stomach hurt... but KFC had a hit with their limited edition Nashville Hot Chicken.

  17. I've made this a few times and it's pretty amazing. It's drenched in cayenne infused butter and lard.

  18. Best chicken sandwich I've had is from a local place called Music City Hot Chicken. I don't have a picture of the sandwich but it's this chicken covered in coleslaw on a bun. A green chili seasoning makes it green

  19. So today I leaned that there are different types of Mars bars but the only one ever sold in the US was the Almond one.

This is the Mars bar in the UK.

The Mars Almond Bar was actually discontinued 2000 and replaced with Snickers Almond Bar.

And the UK version of the Mars bar has always been sold as a Milky Way Bar in the US.
