The Great US vs UK Food Debate

  1. Taco Bell now has their own brand of beer and serves it at some restaurants. What's really fascinating is the type of beer dispenser they use.

  2. We are getting a taco bell in the town I work in, should I be worried that I might die if I eat it?

  3. Possibly. Make sure to tell us how the beer taste before you get too weak.

  4. You'll be fine. It tastes pretty good going down. Just stock up on toilet paper.

  5. The Commander is absolutely correct. Eating Taco Bell is an awesome experience. Just don't venture too far from a bathroom or you'll end up starring in one of his stories.

LOL @ mixing Taco Bell with Alcohol. Not enough TP in the world...

  6. is that at a taco Bell cantina or are regular taco bells getting that? I saw my first taco bell cantina when I was in vegas. I saw that Orlando was going to get one soon too.

I've learned how to make polenta. I actually think it pairs better with a lot of Italian dishes than pasta. It tastes like a cross between mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. It isn't hard to make but there is a lot of stirring involved. It goes really well with chicken cacciatore. I also braised some beef short ribs in wine and put them over it and that was really nice. You can store it in a loaf and reheat it by frying pieces in olive oil until crispy. I'm kind of surprised that polenta is not really a big part of Italian-American cooking. It may be a time and convenience thing. It takes about 4 times as long to make as pasta. It's one of those things like Risotto that you may see as a special but I think the level of effort involved keeps it from being a regular at Italian places. I would also put gnocchi into that category. Popular in Italy, but not seen in the US very often due to the time and skill level involved in making it.

  8. Tried some corn and cheese ice cream. It's both as good and bad as you'd expect.

  9. Got Papa John's Pizza last night. It was utter crap. Not sure if it got worse or if my standards have gone up.

  10. I think it’s gotten worse. It was practically inedible the last time I had it. Their sauce is so sugary.

  11. The whole thing was nasty. I'm guessing the secret ingredient was racism.

It was never good but there's definitely been a decline ever since the racist founder guy left. It was straight up inedible last time we had it. Ended up in the trash.

  13. Supersonic saw into the future or something. Burger King now does tacos, and they are reported to be quite mediocre.

  14. He saw into the past. They've been doing tacos for the last 10 years here. Jack-In-Box started it and then Burger King copied it. Some people love them. I like them. They're unique but super unhealthy. They basically drop a frozen taco in to a deep fryer. The filling is a spreadable meat-ish paste. The cheese is a slice of american. The shell is tasty because it's deep fried. 2 for $1.

Two Burger King Tacos have 46g of fat. The Whopper only has 37g.

Edit. I see they've added some kind of new taco to the menu. I wonder if it replaced the deep fried version.

  15. That looks hideous.

Makes Taco Bell look like a gourmet dining experience. That weird meat spread is like someone had an accident inside a Taco Shell.

So what’s the deal with Aldi? Why do people like it? I had never shopped there before the other day. It’s dirty, poorly lit, everything is just left in the shipping boxes which makes it hard to find anything, and it didn’t seem any cheaper than Publix, and Costco is cheaper than either one of them. And Costco does the warehouse thing too but stuff is well displayed and easy to find there.

  18. Yeah, I'm same. I dunno.. I've had these conversations before and I think it's just people just not caring about the experience and just want stuff for cheap. For people like us, we prefer a pleasant shopping experience. I'm not sure how people really get into places like Aldi or Food Lion.. Winn Dixie.. wal-mart.

I'm pretty lucky to be here in Raleigh since all of the grocery stores from all over the US seem to be coming here. Lowes, Publix, Harris Teeter, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, and even Wegmans just opened up here. I haven't went there yet as it's still packed as all hell..

We have both Aldi and Lidl too.

  19. Same. Aldi is only for Aldi shoppers. The one I went to you couldn’t shop a around. You walked in a floor pattern from the entrance to the cashier. Picked up items as you passed them on your walk.

No impulse purchases is a no go for me. I’m just not that organized. I used to go there before to buy Aldi brand dog food by the case lol.

Fun fact Trader Joe is owned by and is the upscale Aldi. Trader Joe even has a similar floor pattern you’re encouraged to walk. But it’s not as rigid because people with money want to walk wherever they want.
