Almost eveything you do in life involves maths. Science is mostly maths. Get rid of maths, you lose science. Lose science and you've lost the single most effective way we have of determining reality. Are they high or something?
I am always astounded by people who choose not to study mathematics because they do not see it as 'useful', not only is it central to the vast majority of things in life, it is something worth study in its own right. Mathematics has a beauty not matched by a great deal of the other subjects that people spend their lives studying and that should be enough motivation to expose students to it.
I really don't understand how people have trouble with math. It's one of the easiest subjects I ever took. Even Calculus was pretty easy. It's just like Maddox said, if you can read instructions, you can do math. And if you really need to see how Math is applied to real life, take a Statistics or Physics course. Compared to something like Organic Chemistry, Algebra is a friggin' joke.
No but I do read studies that use statistics on a regular basis. I'm sure if I were an engineer I would use physics regularly.
I use knowledge of statistics and algebra (converting units, calculating proportions and probabilities, ect.) on a daily basis. Last year I used heavy duty stats most of the year. I used multiple regression and factor analysis to validate an instrument. I have a publication in a stats journal as well.
I'll check it out. I have to admit I haven't kept my Muppet Baby knowledge as current as I probably should.
Now, I definitely wouldn't say that at all, if you've done any real algebra you'd know that unlike chemistry it's highly abstract, ideas like groups, metric spaces, etc, aren't trivial in the slightest. Organic chem is mostly a silly memory game with mechanisms, since it's generally obvious what particular mechanism(s) describes a particular reaction. Further, calculus is generally easy if you don't take a rigorous approach (which is to say if you don't give it a high school approach or the dodgy approaches in physics), but if you do and you try and justify everything in terms of limits you quickly find that you have to be quite creative, such as analytic continuation, I'd like to see you prove that particular result after a short course in complex analysis. I have no doubt that you'd completely comprehend chemistry after just a few courses.
I don't like them, I don't find them amusing and I don't see their appeal, isn't that reason enough to hate them? It's not like I'm trying to rob them of basic rights or anything lol.
You apparently don't even like their babies. What made you so full of hate? Friends of yours I presume?
The Muppet Christmas Carol is easily the best adaptation of Dickens work. I look forward to it every year.
