Trollmander-in-Chief 2.0: The Return

  1. Alterego, you need to stop blaming this solely on race issues, people of other races voted for Trump too. People were obviously fed up with the status quo and wanted something different to politics that they felt didn't serve them as it should.

Going around claiming every white person is a racist isn't fair and to be honest it makes you look like a bigot.

This. People wanted something different. The left refused to give it to them by shutting down Bernie Sanders, so they sought it from the right instead. Democrats really need to get this and stop calling all white people bigots or they will lose again in four years.

  3. "Claiming every white person is a racist"? Never said that. I did say that the white people who voted Trump into office were going to be responsible for his actions. I also said that a "large percentage" of white people in the United States are uncomfortable with the idea of equality, and gave a perfectly reasonable example: Black Lives Matter. What exactly is upsetting to so many white people about Black Lives Matter? Simply that blacks are voicing an opinion in an organized way. The Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Trump for exactly that reason. They can't handle having an organized group of minorities questioning police shootings.

Look at this board: you've got people who regularly complain about "political correctness". What does that mean? It doesn't mean that they can't say the things that they want to say. It means that they don't like other people responding negatively to what they say. This is actually very similar to the issue that people have with Black Lives Matter: they're not comfortable with a push-back from other groups. They want to say things without being held responsible. They want to do things without being held responsible.

  4. Oh, they're definitely going to get something different. Too bad it won't be anything remotely similar to what they think they voted for.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Best case scenario will be Tea Party idiocy for 4-8 years. Worst case scenario is something I don't even want to think about, maybe outright fascism/dictatorship. Our party made some pretty serious mistakes in this election. We can learn from those mistakes and win next time, or we can be stubborn and lose again.

  6. I think part of the problem is globalization has finally hit the white collar middle class.

How bad is nationalistic economic policy though? Isn't that what Bernie sanders wanted?

  7. That's exactly what Bernie Sanders wanted. He was anti-globalist, anti-outsourcing, anti free trade, etc.

  8. So I guess I'll be cautiously optimistic. My company is replacing IT with H1B's. If it goes well I'm sure they'll get around engineering.

  9. U.S. would be better off spending on infrastructure than worrying about tariffs etc. Problem is that the GOP has no interest in the government improving the lives of the average person. I'm sure they'll just do the usual Plan A: blow a hole in the budgetary process with giant tax cuts and defense spending, (which will probably end up being Trump's "help the middle class" item), then attack anything that appears to help people. Trump's team in Washington looks like it's just going to be a collection of long-time GOP operatives that washed up politically years ago: Giuliani, Gingrich, Bob Corker. Gingrich is even saying he wants to start a new House Un-American Activities panel. Wow...the 1950's all over again. Change agents!

  10. Does this sound like Sanders?

"Jeffrey Eisenach, a consultant who has worked for years on behalf of Verizon and other telecommunications clients, is the head of the team that is helping to pick staff members at the Federal Communications Commission.

Michael Catanzaro, a lobbyist whose clients include Devon Energy and Encana Oil and Gas, holds the “energy independence” portfolio.

Michael Torrey, a lobbyist who runs a firm that has earned millions of dollars helping food industry players such as the American Beverage Association and the dairy giant Dean Foods, is helping set up the new team at the Department of Agriculture.

Mr. Trump was swept to power in large part by white working-class voters who responded to his vow to restore the voices of forgotten people, ones drowned out by big business and Wall Street. But in his transition to power, some of the most prominent voices will be those of advisers who come from the same industries for which they are being asked to help set the regulatory groundwork.

The president-elect’s spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, declined a request for comment, as did nearly a dozen corporate executives, consultants and lobbyists serving on his transition team, which was outlined in a list distributed widely in Washington on Thursday."

We know he was full of shit. We get it. He's just resurrecting failed Bush and Tea Party policies with most of the same people. The difference between him and Hillary is that Hillary didn't even try to conceal the fact that she was a shill for the banks, billionaires, and wall street.

  12. Trump is already backpedaling on repealing Obamacare. Trump says the law against denying coverage for pre-existing conditions will stay. And children will be allowed to stay on parents' plans into their mid 20s. I bet Trumpcare is basically just Obamacare with a new name slapped on it, and probably even less done to control costs. Because Trump is a huge egomaniac.

  13. Trump has achieved #GoAT status in both trolling and lying.

It's really hard to predict what he's going to do. On paper, he is a life long liberal who's shown support for single payer healthcare. But he also trolled his way to the presidency ripping on Obama Care.

As of Wednesday, he's done a complete 180° turn in presentation and demeanor. Way more serious, professional, and dignified. Basically he's trolling the trolls that enjoyed his previous trolling.

  14. The guy is a master conman. I don't think people have any idea who or what they elected.

  15. NPR was interviewing some Trump supporters and while all of them seemed to hate anything government some wanted to keep Obamacare because they were benefiting from it. Suddenly repealing it would be a disaster. The best he can do is slowly change it. His energy policy is probably going to crack too. Coals number one competitor is cheap natural gas. Coal lost 50k jobs in the last 5 years while natural gas gained 100k. Coal jobs wont come back unless natural gas gets expensive again.

  16. I think it was Seth Meyers that said Trump has basically held every political view point there is . So if you're worried about one of his views just wait a while and they'll probably change.

  17. Trump wants to make the GOP into a racist, autocratic workers party that doesn't actually do much of anything for workers. What does that sound similar to? The Soviet Union. It's basically iron curtain style politics coming straight from Putin and company.

I'd say it sounds more like early days of the National Socialist German Workers Party. Hitler rose to power on the backs of racist, populist, nationalist workers who felt like democracy in Germany had failed and they were being sold out by the (Jewish) elite.

  19. Hitler and Nazi Germany didn't last very long. Putin and the Soviet Union era politicos are still around and calling the shots. Part of the reason Putin and Russia wanted Trump elected is so that they can continue to try and cobble together the lost territory of the Soviet Union.
