It’s sound business strategy, really. Got a problem you don’t understand? Throw money at it till it goes away. Sadly, McConnell will GOP it up for everyone.
I'm pretty sure Yang and Gabbard were talking about the Universal Basic Income $1000/ month plan last week. It seems like the corporate Democrats like Kamala Harris are proposing half that amount or less. Corporate Democrats are suddenly the most fiscally conservative when there is a worldwide pandemic? That is undoubtedly the path to victory in the presidential election...
In many, many situations I'd agree, but I think this money is very likely to be spent on necessities by most people and also obviously go right back into the economy. I don't see the typical Average Joe with a family hiding this cash in a basement in a box or sending it to secret offshore accounts. Most of it would probably go to food and supplies right away assuming you can find them in a store or online currently.
When they do these direct checks, it's not to help families, but to get poor people spending again. There needs to be a household income cap because people with higher salaries might just pocket it which won't be good. Our entire way of life is dependent on poor people buying junk they don't need with money they don't have.
But where do people spend the money? Not travel, not cars, not restaurants or mom and pop businesses. Call me a skeptic, but I don't see this doing too much to stimulate the economy. It will help provide food and rent to those that need it for a month or two, but those that don't need it will probably pocket it. If I was supreme overlord, I'd try to get the money to the 20% of people who need it now and then stimulate the economy later when people can actually leave the house.
I’m my lifetime I recall this happening twice. After 9/11/2001 and again around 2007-2008. Did not work both times. I expect this will be no different. The ongoing QE buybacks from the fed will help though.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cn...zona-coronavirus-chloroquine-death/index.html https://www.thedailybeast.com/texas...-willing-to-die-to-save-economy-for-grandkids I’m sure we’ve all seen these by now. Trump really is the troller in chief. Maybe the greatest of all trolls. Look, I’ve talked a lot of trash online and elsewhere, but I don’t think mizzle ever had an actual death cult following him around strangling themselves with wiimote cords. Of course, I’m sure the generation that dodged the Vietnam war, sold off the American dream for a gallon of gas, and created a spinning continent of garbage in the pacific will absolutely start sacrificing now for future generations.
As far as public perception, it's a no win scenario. If the curve is successfully flattened, it will look like we overreacted. If the curve is not flattened, it will seem like we didn't do enough. It's like deciding if people should evacuate for hurricanes.
For months I’ve been hearing how crazy Bernie Sanders was. His policies are crazy. We can’t afford any of the things he says. Then like a month later the government prints $4.3 trillion out of thin air. Lol.
We could easily afford all of it if the political will was there. If we can make trillions appear out of thin air we can have a public option for healthcare and make college free or super cheap.
He's not the last chance. Just the last chance for right now. Look at how progressive the millenial gen politicians are like Beto, Mayor Pete, AOC, Tulsi Gabbard. That's the future. In a decade someone like that could be president. Bernie’s ideas are only radical among baby boomers. They’re mainstream with the younger generations. The boomers won’t be around forever.
You know, there’s an idea I’ve been kicking around in my head for a day or two... Trump is running this country based on The Office television show. The American one not the British one. Currently, I have two pieces of supporting evidence: Pam and Jim’s wedding: Nana rants about the promiscuity of modern women and says something like “This country used to be great”. Kevin why use lot words when few words: When Jim asks Kevin if he is saying sea world or see world, Kevin emphasizes “Chy Na” when clarifying. Trump is, at times, channeling different characters of the show. He throws tantrums like Micheal, demands authority like Dwight, bumbles around like Creed, grabs pussy like Packer, claims Jesus like Angela... nobody knows what he’s talking about like Robert California or Ryan, sleeps around like Meredith, is fat and slovenly like Kevin, bald like Kevin, doesn’t really work like Jim, and has boobs like Kevin. I was gonna say Pam’s Pam-pams but cmon. Those are surely delightful. Hopefully he doesn’t get as many seasons.
There's no way Ghislaine Maxwell will ever be allowed to testify. She will be "suicided" just like her boyfriend and fellow kid diddler Epstein.
That was under a more competent administration and a normal year. In this “let it burn” climate of 2020, I give her a 50/50 chance.
Trump probably just won himself reelection with his covid relief executive orders. He made the Democrats in the house and senate look like they can't get anything done and are willing to let Americans go homeless over politics. Also due to the recency effect people will probably remember this more than his screw ups with downplaying the virus early in the pandemic. Also I think the BLM and defund the police stuff is backfiring on the Democrats. They come away looking like they support rioting anarchists who want chaos. I think the police have serious problems with brutality and militarization and need to be reformed to more of a public servant role. But the current movement for this is a mess and I think it's divisive and out of step with most of the country. I also just can't imagine large numbers of people will turn out to vote for Biden. The polls have been off in the past two elections. And just because large numbers of people hate Trump doesn't mean they are going to vote for Biden. Trump also has an extremely loyal fanbase that will vote for him. I think a lot of people are about to have their minds blown when Trump easily wins reelection.
Regarding BLM backfiring on the D, there has been a surge in voter registrations since the protests started. During the early months of the pandemic, registrations were a bit depressed. By all accounts, the surge in registrations is in favor of the Democrats while Republican registrations have flatlined. Really though, who knows? I think a lot of people’s minds were made up on this election a long time ago. They either do not want more Trump and are alarmed at his administration, or they can’t get enough of his style. Recent events are perhaps just spurring them to actual action? Whatever the case, the numbers are going the Democrats way. But maybe Trump puts himself on Rushmore, arrests all the new registrants and poor people, and loses all the mail for the next six months. He might win then.
Biden just sealed his fate with a running mate no one really likes who is basically a black version of Hillary Clinton. Warren or Sanders would have gotten young progressive voters to turn out. Kamala Harris is a dud. She was a dud in the primaries. Even black people and women don't like her.
Kamala Harris was also nuked out of the race by Tulsi Gabbard within a couple of minutes. Who is worried about competing with "Heels Up" Harris? I can't imagine the Sanders crowd is feeling enthusiastic about this, either. The VP usually isn't particularly important, but with Biden she may end up serving more of his term than him.
