Their advertising is pretty bizarre given the nature of their business. They must have spent a fortune for that stupid massage commercial considering it was a Super Bowl ad. I'm eager to see how much money and customers they lose over time. I think they are too big to go out of business, but any economic damage done to nasty corporate bastards who want to screw over the public is nice to see.
I think GoDaddy's advertising works just they are the only one I can think of that advertises on TV. I can't think of another single ad I've seen. I went with Godaddy because that is all I knew and it was $1.99 the first year. BUT, transferring out of GoDaddy hurts alot more than new registrataions. They aren't making any money off the 1st year's $1.99 but the renewals at $10-20 /year and add-on services. For every $10 renewal they lose, they would need 5 $2 new entries to replace them for the year.
Another lame Godaddy commercial. If I didn't know better, I would swear they were a strip club by the airport or something.
Plenty of tech geeks play video games and read comic books and watch action movies, and you certainly see the same type of "stripper hot chick" ploys used in those mediums. Remember, this is the same demographic that enthusiastically responds to booth babes at trade shows...
1. The superbowl is the most watched TV broadcast in the USA. 2. Their sex based superbowl ads make the company a household name. 3. When someone needs to register a domain, they remember the company from the SB ad. It's actually good marketing.
I love how you, cmdr. always tend to lose the point? If their audience (though not really logical) IS dudebro's and large corps who don't give a shit about 'intelectual' nerd stuff than who exactly are they pissing off?? All this is just a lot of noise that their CEOs are probably sittin in their chairs (drinkin a beer) laughin about. Their getting more naming rights advertising from all this than they are losing market share I'd bet. Engenius? Well maybe in the freaky ass-backwards kind of way. I really don't know how they sustained success up until now. They musta' been HUGE before they started all this advertising.
Whatever. They're a scumbag company that supports fascism, and they won't be getting our business. People like you who have no principles are why this country is turning into a fascist shithole. People need to stand up for their rights. And we should have the right to free speech on the internet. Companies like Godaddy want to take that away and they can go eat shit and die.
my principle is to annoy and argue with ppl like you man nah but really I can't stand ppl with a closed mind. You may be right, but often times there's more than one answer and sometimes you're proposed CORRECT answer is just not open to everybody. Besides I like to get things wrong every once in a while (and not be ridiculed for it) I like to run into spinning propellers of doom, builds character and it's one HECK of a story. I bet there's some financial gains to be made there too <g>... but hey! we all do stupid stuff. and some of us just like ridiculing others. Like my preference for stupid stuff, THAT's just stupid stuff. So no, it's not about principals it's about respecting other ppl's principals, their right to do what they like and believe what they think is real. anyway waaaaaaaaaaaay OT sorry bout that... actually it's not since this thread is about censorship lol I take that back.
and I have my work laid out for me here nah, it's all cool, just something stupid to do on a rainy day. (loosely translated from Friesian I just said I'm defending myself and my hippie honor )
It looks like the Godaddy boycott kind of fizzled. Oh well, at least we took advantage of it to renew our domain name for cheap http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111230/01453717233/godaddy-boycott-fizzles-twice-as-many-domains-transfer-as-out.shtml
Google, Amazon, Wikipedia, Facebook and other internet companies are considering what they call "the nuclear option," a blackout of service to protest SOPA. I actually think this is a brilliant idea. Well informed geeks know about SOPA. But this would make average Joe Sixpacks aware and pissed off too when they can't get on their favorite sites. This would generate the kind of widespread opposition needed to defeat the bill.
So, GoDaddy denied my transfer request two times now due to one made up reason or another. I made a valiant effort to resolve the first issue, but I think they will just string me along with more shit and I'm feeling lazy. Should I keep going, because I'm thinking I'll just renew with them to save the hassle.
that's what they want you to do 0.o No I don't really care, they got the message. It's not worth the trouble. I'd say yes if we had a new visitor every once in a while but, again, it's not worth the trouble IMO.. Appreciate everybody's efforts to keep this place alive though!
You guys should do a pvc sopa blackout on Jan 18th along with the big guns. Might as well since I'll be living like a caveman that day. Three sites I frequent daily will be going down.. xda, reddit, and wikipedia. OH GOD WHAT THE F AM I GOING TO DO. *sobs in corner*
