Vegetarians should all be shot at birth. No, everyone who's different to me should be shot at birth. There I said it.
Our social norm is to have a mixed diet. You are merely 'enforcing' a more common diet with your choice. Whether we like it or not, we enforce plenty of views on our children passively. I'm sure I'd go along with your outlook on parenting but I wouldn't look down on others who choose a different lifestyle choice for diet if it's healthy.
It was a joke, which was pretty much straight from a South Park episode. I can't believe how seriously you're taking this thread.
I'm pretty sure Grim and Armitage were taking it seriously. And why not? Freedom of choice is the name of the game in this thread.
I have had some tasty vegetarian dishes. Lasagna with eggplant is tasty. I don't think I could ever completely give up meat, however, especially seafood. Sushi is made of meat; I'm not giving that up.
Lasagna is tasty because the key ingredients are ground beef and cheese! Chicken with eggplant is also good. Vegetables turn you into a queefing pussy bitch who needs jumbo rolls of toilet paper.
Lasagna is even better when you mix Italian sausage in with the ground beef. The quality of the lasagna is one of the best ways to judge an Italian restaurant. It tells you everything. Right there you know if their sauce, pasta, meat, and baking skills are up to par.
@alterego Maybe I missed it, but are you a vegetarian? You seem to be taking great offense to what was a joke topic. My parents tried vegetarianism for a few months when I was a kid, mostly because my stepfather needed to lose weight. It was a pretty miserable experience, even with a lot of creative cooking, and they give it up before too long. Some of the meat substitutes were horrifying. I still wretch at the thought of boca burgers and tofu.
Why do you think I'm taking offense compared to others in the thread? As I already pointed out, I originally was responding to people who took the topic seriously. Grim took it seriously. Armitage took it seriously. So?
What the fuck is even in a boca burger? Eggplant I guess? I just remember that no matter how many condiments you piled on top of them they still tasted like crap. The had a weird smell too.
I see what the problem is. You guys think that vegetarianism means that you just head to the "vegetarian" section at the local supermarket and buy Boca Burgers and Tofurkey. Now that's amusing!
Burritos, enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, huevos rancheros. Who knew southwestern food was so vegetarian friendly? Italian and Asian recipes are all very vegetarian friendly. It's not really that hard to remove the meat or substitute something else for stir fry or steamed dishes.
In case anyone missed it. Denny's is running a new bacon special. Bacon is back! For a limited time only, Denny's is hosting what they're calling the "Baconalia" festival with seven bacon-laden dishes including a Triple Bacon Sampler, a BBBLT Sandwich, and the implausible (but not improbable) Maple Bacon Sundae. It features maple flavored syrup, vanilla ice cream, and "a generous sprinkle of our diced hickory-smoked bacon."
I've actually had some really tasty tofu. It's pretty decent when it's prepared properly. I spent most of my youth with my grandparents, and my grandfather used about 2/3 to 3/4 of his property as a giant garden. Raspberries, apples, watermelon, peaches, plums, pumpkins, radishes, rhubarb, ect. He had a huge freezer on the back porch that was completely full of raspberries. We didn't have enough room to contain it all between 2 refrigerators and the full sized freezer. I ate fresh vegetables and fruit all the time. I tend to really like healthy foods as a result. I prefer mango or raspberries over any type of candy or cake (plus cake is a lie anyway).
Now that I'm thinking about it, there were probably 3-4 days during the week when I was in elementary school that I was technically eating vegetarian 2 out of every 3 meals, even though nobody was focusing on whether it was vegetarian or not. I rarely had bacon or sausage for breakfast unless it was Sunday...usually just cereal/toast. PB&J sandwiches or mac/cheese or Spaghetti-O's for lunch quite a bit.
