Re: Verizon killing grandfathered unlimited data on your next upgrade Sounds like a good reason not to upgrade. 4G is overrated anyway. It rapes your battery life.
Re: Verizon killing grandfathered unlimited data on your next upgrade It used to. But now with qualcomm's new snapdragon s4 soc, it's waaaaaay more power efficient. A razr maxx has a 3300mah battery.. and htc one x (with snapdragon s4) on ATT has 1800mah battery. On anand benches, the htc one x lasts as long as the razr maxx on LTE web browsing at only almost half the battery life. Times have quickly changed. And not to mention, the carriers are only carrying 4G phones now. Whatever 3G only phones they have now will hit end of life in the future and you'll never see a 3G only phone available anymore after that. Your only options will be to get a 4G phone.
Verizon kills grandfathered unlimited data on your next upgrade Can't say I'm surprised. I had a 4G LTE hotspot from them and in NYC it could easily replace home internet. People would abuse it.
Re: Verizon kills grandfathered unlimited data on your next upgrade Apparently this only applies if you get a subsidy on the phone, if you buy the phone outright then you can keep your unlimited data plan. http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Verizon-Unlimited-Data-Brenda-Raney-Fran-Shammo-Subsidize,news-15260.html
Re: Verizon kills grandfathered unlimited data on your next upgrade indeed. I just read that earlier. It's kind of horrible though. international phones are priced high originally and then eventually drop in price as in regular electronics. Verizon is a communist carrier and also a cdma carrier. The company control what devices you can and can't use on their network. On top that.. since they have a stranglehold their own network, the unsubsidized prices if their phones never drop. so even if the phone is over a year old, it could still be $600. and to top it off, your rate plan is the same cost whether or not you get an unsubsidized phone or not.
Re: Verizon kills grandfathered unlimited data on your next upgrade Over here it is very different, we have 4 main networks available throughout pretty much the whole country and then loads of piggy back providers who usually offer cheaper deals. One of the main four is O2, trying to keep the spend around the same to compare what you get for your money. 24 Months Unlimited minutes - Unlimited texts - 1 GB data = £36($56)/month Galaxy SIII = £99($156) 18 Months 300 minutes - Unlimited texts - 750MB data = £37($58)/month Galaxy SIII = £169($267) 12 Months SIM only Unlimited minutes - Unlimited texts - 1GB data = £26($41)/month (New deal, very cheap) Galaxy SIII = £479 ($757) (based on price of HTC One X as no price for phone only on O2 site yet) 1 Month SIM only 900 Minutes - Unlimited texts - 1GB data = £37($58)/month Galaxy SIII = £479 ($757) (based on price of HTC One X as no price for phone only on O2 site yet) If you went with a piggy back network like Virgin Media then you can get a 1 month SIM only deal such as. 250 minutes - 2500 texts - 500MB data = £10($15)/month There is a fifth 'big' network called 3 but they have a bit of a bad reputation. They were the first 3G network but they are seen as a bit of a cheap network and you always hear horror stories about the coverage. I think they have gotten better in recent years and they do some fantastic 1 month SIM only deals such as.. 300 minutes - 3000 texts - UNLIMITED DATA = £15($23)/month I am tempted to go to them if I ever decide not to get a new phone and someone at one of our branch offices is using them so I am seeing how he gets on. They don't currently list the SIII so I can't really give a comparison price on the proper contracts to O2. Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile will all be about the same as O2. EDIT: I should also say you can get the SIII free on O2 if you go on the £46($72)/month, 24 month contract which comes with 2GB data. I wouldn't do that.... Also O2 used to offer unlimited data but they like other members of the big 4 got rid of it. Vodafone seem to be giving out 3 months unlimited data as a trial with upgrades so maybe they are bringing it back. EDIT EDIT: The Galaxy 16GB SIII is actually only £29 to buy on the £36/month Vodafone contract, half tempted I must admit. You can get it free for £41/month so a bit cheaper than O2.
Verizon kills grandfathered unlimited data on your next upgrade I actually like the euro mobile style better. You buy your own shit but pay much cheaper prices. We have a fucked up system because Americans fail at math. They take their "free" phone and prefer to get raped monthly over two years.
Verizon introduced PopData. You can temporarily pay for unlimited bandwidth at $3 an hour. https://www.verizonwireless.com/plans/hotspots/
