What Games Are You Playing?

  1. Who uses the Cambridge dictionary? Everyone knows it's all about the Oxford dictionary, and I'm not just saying that because I grew up around Oxford. (Cambridge and Oxford have a long rivalry since they both house prestigious universities, it seems they even have competing dictionaries lol).

Apparently there's many uses for the word till, I've only ever heard it used to refer to where people put money.

  2. ehich one is Websters? that's the only one I've heard referred to. I just use dictionary.com.

  3. You talk to me like i'm british or something. you need to get used to the fact that there's a world outside of your own. :) in america, we only use it as an alternative form for until

webster's is an american english dictionary. i used cambridge since it's british english (can reference american english too).

  4. I downloaded the 11.11c driver from AMD's website. Now RAGE and Skyrim both have functioning Crossfire. RAGE is actually quite smooth most of the time now. Skyrim was at 60 fps most of the time at max, although occasionally it stuttered or dropped frames for maybe a second now and then.

Thus, in conclusion, it was indeed AMD's crappy, LTTP driver work that was causing me so many problems. This means I've had problems thanks to them in BF3, RAGE, Skyrim, and Arkham City. Wow, 4 for 4!

On the silver lining side of things, BF3, Skyrim, and RAGE are all running quite well and pretty much crash free at this point. It would be nice if they get to this point BEFORE major releases in the future.

  5. I've beaten last Bowser in Super Mario 3D Land and now am playing Special Levels. It takes slightly over 6 hours but I've read that Special Levels are much more difficult and time consuming.

One of the best Mario games ever, I would put it next to Six Golden Coins. The gameplay is near perfect and the level design is amazing. There are moments that the 3D effect is almost unbelievable with objects far in the distance.

It definitely should have been a launch title.

  6. Well I decided to try and play ElderScrolls: Arena again, this time I got myself into it and it's really engrossing. The game world is absolutely massive and it has every single provence avaliable for exploration, apparently the game world is approximately 6 million square kilometres, almost all of it is randomly generated however.

  7. Why Arena and not Daggerfall? It's so much better but still the same impression of a f*ing huge world.

Plus the plot is much more interesting.

  8. Have thy finally fixed all the bugs?

  9. The 2.13 path, released like 2 years later fixed lots of bugs and the game is playable. I wasn't able to finish the main storyline, mainly because few of last dungeons are extremely twisted and there was no "gamefaqs" in late 90s. But I don't remember any cricital bugs you would not be able to pass through with simple loading of saved game state.

  10. I went back to try out mirroring after I'd been playing oblivion and hated it, I'll never go back further in the franchise.

  11. Namely because I don't know where I can find a copy of Daggerfall, that would actually be my prime choice. Bethesda released Arena as freeware a few years back on their main site, that's why I have a copy of Arena.

  12. Daggerfall is also available for free from Bethesda. released like 2 years ago.

  13. WHAT?! Thanks for that Torq, I had no idea.

  14. Pokemon White. I tried to find this months ago when it came out but it wasn't available. Now I have some afternoons free I can play it and see what it's like.

  15. I've been playing quite a bit of RAGE lately. I have enjoyed it for the most part. I was struggling a bit with the controls at first, as the driving is well suited for the 360 controller and the FPS segments are perfect for the kb/m. So I just started switching when I got to a transition point between the two styles of play and haven't had any problems since. It seems like a decent sized game, with two major maps full of sidequests. I don't know that there's anything that I could directly compare it to.

I do not think it's that similar to Borderlands, which was much more focused on building up a character. RAGE lets up buy upgrades for your gear, but it's very much an action game, and many of the enemies are extremely quick. I don't think I would enjoy the shooting segments with a controller because I think I would struggle to keep up with the speed of the melee enemies. You need some twitchy, oldschool skills to keep up with them when you get swarmed. The weapons are really nice, and the shotgun is unsurprisingly king (it's an id game). The vehicle component is very arcadey in feel and is not too bad. I felt pretty comfortable with it after a few hours.

Also, this game puts you in some fairly creepy environments when you go underground into sewers and whatnot. They do a good job of foreshadowing big battles and building tension by using distant growling sounds or showing you a hoard of enemies running to a location you're eventually funneled into. They seem to enjoy putting you in positions of needing to drop into a hole in a sewer or mine where you are likely to be ambushed and cannot return the way you entered. They also like to have mutants to emerge from panels or grate covers in the ground for surprise attacks.

My perception is that the game was judged so harshly because of the long wait and megahype rather than the game itself. I'd put it in the 7.5 to 8 out of 10 range. It's not AAA, but it's pretty good. I am glad to see that CF works reasonably well now. I can turn up the settings and force more advanced AA and the like and it usually stresses each card to around 45% to 65%. I have plenty of power in reserve. Would it really have been such a chore to make sure Crossfire worked BEFORE it was released?

  16. If you decide to play it, drop a note on the forum from time to time. I've spent like 150 hours in the game and would really like to hear from someone discovering it after all these years.

I've even tried to go back there once again and maybe even finish the game but:
    a) my old save states are of course gone so I had to start from the very beginning
    b) it's been too difficult to "redevote" my time to Daggerfall having Morrowind and then Oblivion

Each of my 3 or 4 approaches to replay the game ended then after a dozen of hours.

  17. Professor Leyton and the Curious Village:

Been meaning to play these games for a long while, very enjoyable but does make you think so may not be one for Chi.

    Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

O how they have improved this game by simply updating the graphics and frame rate. It is so smooth that it is now a real joy to play, I had trouble playing the original on Wii VC as it felt so clunky but this is fantastic. The improved control sensitivity also helps as Link moves a lot better and more precisely than he ever did on that silly N64 analogue stick. The 3D is really good and overall the game is very pretty.

    Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception

Damn this game looks nice. I have just got to France and I have to say I have gotten far more into this than I did U2. The London settings were really nice and 2 hours disappeared whilst playing which is always a good sign.

  18. OI! I've Professor Leyton'ed it up before you've even got your boots on. Now monsly, he's the type of guy who doesn't understand doorknobs.

  19. You wait, it gets even better later. :D

  20. I've been playing a little Oblivion but that's about it. That game is actually pretty horrible... I still haven't found a game more enjoyable than WoW- which means I haven't played PC games since like 2007 or something. Plus I don't have a good enough computer right now to play anything better. Plus plus someone stole my digital camera...
