What Games Are You Playing?

  1. I had problems with my 8800GT but it wasn't drivers. I had to underclock the card or it would artifact. That was probably EVGAs fault for improper testing.

  2. I'm giving Batman AA a go. This is another game that got thrown on the back burner because it didn't run very well on my old 8800GTS, especially with physX enabled.

I really think nVidia has been hard at work on their PhysX drivers, because this game also runs flawlessly with everything maxed out and PhysX on the highest setting.

  3. Well it ran like crap with DX11 too. I started playing this myself two days ago but I turned DX11 off based on what I had read. Perhaps it works better now.

  4. The joys of pc gaming trololol.

  5. The consoles versions didn't have DX11 or PhysX.

  6. trololol

  7. Yeah, seriously. I could run Batman at settings well above the consoles even on my 8800 GTS.

  8. Oh Yeah. Lulz.

  9. The Witcher 2

It has nice graphics, and that's about all I can say positive about it. The menu system is horribly unintuitive. There's no tutorial to really explain anything, so you basically have no idea what you're supposed to be doing. The voice acting is kind of terrible. And I'm not convinced that showing boobies and saying fuck all the time makes a game mature. The redhead does have pretty nice boobies though.

Anyway, I think I'm going to go back to playing Batman or some other less horrible game.

  10. That's not good then. My mums starting to want to play a new game since skyrim is all she's played since November (she's not a regular gamer, just a couple of days a week at the most) I mentioned the witcher 2 as it looked good and kind of sort of along the same lines as skyrim, as in it's a fantasy action rpg thingy. I don't think tits, profanity, or shitty voice acting and confusing mechanics are her thing really.

  11. Witcher 2 is basically Stalker resurrected from the depths of the bargain bin in RPG form.

If you don't speak Polish or Russian or whatever so you can hear the original dialogue instead of the horrid English dubbing, you didn't read the 800 page instruction manual, and you're not willing to deal with game breaking bugs, that means that you pizza'ed when you should have french fried, and you're going to have a bad time.

In other words, it's more Eastern European bargain bin poop that PC gamers seem to be lapping up like it's chocolate ice cream because they're so desperate for exclusives.

Anyway, I'm back to playing Batman, a game made by people who actually knew what they were doing. And frankly, Arkham Asylum has been so unbelievably, mind blowingly good so far that after that I'm probably going to jump right into Arkham City. I was just trying the Witcher because Gamespot has been running a bunch of stories on it lately. But it sucked just as much as I expected it to. I hate being right all the time.

  12. yeah my mom once took me out to The Watchers and I in turn took her out to Kickass. We thought both movies were just your run of the mill super hero fliks! You REALLY can't tell a book by it's cover nowadays. Mom's gotta be VERY morally strong out there -_-.

  13. Witcher 2 was great. End of story.

I'm playing Arkham City but it doesn't seem as good as Arkham Asylum. Not sure why.

  14. Arkham City is an excellent game but I did prefer the structure of the first game. Also the riddler stuff was waaaay too much.

  15. The Riddler crap isn't even plausible in a fake Batman world.

  16. You said in another thread that it was only a 7/10 and that it wasn't fun. So which is it?

  17. Alright it was good maybe great.

  18. Tried playing Mario Kart 7 over the weekend which I had forgot I had.

To be honest I could only play one cup at a time and then had to put the consoles down for a few hours. It is so painful to play that it is almost stupid, by the 4th race my hand hurts so much that I really have to fight to finish it. Holding down A and then trying to use X to use a weapon is just awkward and then trying to use the L trigger at the same time for turning is just horrible.

The 3DS is a really uncomfortable to hold when using its conventional controls and this game does its best to demonstrate just how bad it is. It really makes the whole game seem like a really bad experiences which is a shame as it looks pretty nice with the 3D turned on.

  19. I am still mostly playing Skyrim, I am over 100 hours and there's only the main plot to finish. During the civil war quest I supported the empire, of course.

From time to time I play Pullblox (Pushmo) on the 3DS, it's definitely one of the most challenging and smart logic games I've ever played. Guys who designed all the levels certainly deserve a Nobel prize. There are three or four basic building blocks but levels still suprize with a new combination.

I've also put like 15 hours into AC: Revelations. I will surely finish it but there are almost no new features comparing to Brotherhood. On one hand this makes the game easily approachable but on the other hand, it's just boring. Take the Constantinopole away and I feel I am in Rome, playing the former episode.

  20. Mortal Kombat

The new one. MK9 or MK2011 as people call it. I hate it when games and films stop using numbers in their titles, probably to stop reminding people how old the franchise is, and insert words like Revelations and Brotherhood or worse still, just call it what the original was called. Whenever I tell someone I'm playing Mortal Kombat they always reply with "Which one". Bugs me.

Anyway I've always been a big fan of the MK games but I've been stung by shit games over the last decade or so, as a result I was a bit apprehensive about this one but people seem to like it. I went into training with Sub Zero (the king of MK games) and learned his basic combos and played through arcade mode and I started to really enjoy it. I then had a look on youtube for advanced combo turotials and learned a couple of 9 hit combos that turned out to to be rather easy to pull off. Now I really like the game.

I started the story mode and was impressed. There's plenty of high quality (for an MK game) cutscenes that seamlessly lead into fights without any loading screens. It's like watching a MK film but you do the fighting, it's awesome. My only gripe is the multiplayer. First off you have to buy an online pass... for a fighting game.

Whatever, I'll pay it. But first there's a two day free trial to get through. However I couldn't find a single match last night. I tried ranked, I tried public, I waited for over 10 minutes each time but no fighting occured. I'm certainly not buying an online pass if you can't even fight. I found a lobby with a bunch of people in it but it didn't look like you could access kombat from there, just chat I think.

So far I'm really enjoying this game. It felt really crude and clumsy at first (compared to Street Fighter and Soul Calibur) but once you get to grips with it that all fades away. I think they've done a really good job giving this franchise the high quality reboot it so desperately needed. Hopefully the online issue is just a temporary one.
