I love bows. I'm constantly sneaking around and retrieving arrows. And stabbing things. I rarely have to worry about running out of ammo. Or even spending much money to buy more.
It's a one shot kill as well where as an AK seems to take 3-5 shots for a kill. I cross a little stream today and got killed by a croc . It was kind of funny really. There was no chance of getting away.
FarCry 3 is indeed a great game so far. I have it on the ps3 so it doesn't look amazing but it's so much fun to use my silenced sniper rifle to clear an enemy camp without them realising where I am. I recommend the game. My mate has his dude set up for pure stealth. He can easily clear a camp out using nothing but his knife, I've notices some perks are OP while some are useless, like shooting from a zip line
They really made an epic comeback with Far Cry 3. Far Cry 2 was lame as hell. I think by the time I had completed the main story line, I had almost all of the perks anyway. That was before I had even started on the quests.
While I have to agree that Far Cry 2 had some issues I really enjoyed it. If you can look past the repetitveness and terrible voice acting you'll enjoy the game. I miss being able to pull my map out and look at it while driving, that was a cool and unique feature. I also can't help feeling that Far Cry 2 ran a lot smoother than Far Cry 3 does and looked to have higher detail textures too, at least on the PS3 versions. That reminds me, now my PS3 is fixed I should re-download Far Cry 2 and get me some trophies at some point.
Doing a scenic tour in the jeep, eh? Draw distance doesn't look THAT bad in the new screenshot. You can at least see a smattering of foliage here and there on the islands in the background. There is something a bit sketchy about the small plants in the medium distance across the river though.
My biggest complaint about the game is the menu system. I suspect it’s just a PC port problem but the menu is slow as heck and the crafting portion might even be buggy. Trying to go backwards up a crafting tree doesn’t work. You have to go out and then back in. In addition to the technical problem I don’t like the design of it but that’s just personal preference. I guess the draw distance isn’t that bad but in Crysis there were some beautiful panoramic views. FC3 just doesn’t have them because of the blur effect.
75% of my kills are from the knife as well. My guns are just ones I pick up from the ground. I run like a little girl from animals like the good ol komodo dragons.
How would the exploration fun factor rate in this game vs. something like Skyrim or Fallout? Are you mainly running across different types of enemy camps and animals above ground etc., or is there more to it than that?
Skyrim and Fallout are probably a lot more fun in terms of exploration. I’m only 10 hours into FC3 and I’m a little worried the repetitive encounters might get boring after a while. But it’s still early so who knows. To me FC3 is more like Red Dead Redemption. A strong central story with lots to explore but nothing very unique.
Yea, don't think about it being too much like skyrim or fallout. You're hearing those games alot because it's the best description for it right now since there is exploration, open-worldness, and collection gameplay tidbits in the game. But it's still a straight up action game on the surface. The exploration/open world gameplay is not nearly as deep as the other games and this definitely will not last as long as the other games. Arma will probably hit his definition of "complete" in this game by the end of 9 days.
I've only played about 10 hours also. If you're expecting a Skyrim level of places to go and things to do you'll be disappointed. My mate who's much further than me said its quite repetitive. The wildlife is cool though. Unlike khaid I just run at Komodo dragons and give them a blast of my shotgun, they don't like it. I'm rocking a silenced sniper rifle with variable scope for popping pirate heads from range, a silenced pistol for medium range stealth kills and if the shit hits the fan I bring out my shotgun or assault rifle. It's definitely meant to be played with stealth in mind as most of the perks seem to help you kill people undetected. I think hunting is the main theme of the game and obviously stealth plays a huge role in real world hunting.
