What Games Are You Playing?

  1. I gave the Crysis 3 Beta a try. It's an Open Beta apparently. It still seemed pretty rough to me, and the more advanced forms of AA hard to run for me even though I have a pretty beastly setup with 2 GTX 670 4GB cards in SLI.

I think it would have been smarter to release a brief single player demo first while they clean up multiplayer a bit more, as the footage of SP I've seen from trailers looked incredible in terms of visuals. Multiplayer seemed OK (but generally average) in terms of gameplay, but it ran very rough and didn't look that great. The shotgun was massively overpowered, too.

  2. Orcs Must Die!

It's 50% fps and 50% tower defense. I think I prefer a pure tower defense but this merger seems to work alright.

  3. My friend gifted me Chivalry a few days ago. I played a few matches and was rocking an awesome average of 6 kills 12 deaths each time.

  4. I randomly got a text from my mum last night asking whether crisis 3 would be worth getting. I told her its designed to really be played on a high end pc so a console port might be suspect, is that about right?

  5. I heard it runs about 23fps on consoles

  6. Crysis is really more of a console franchise these days.

  7. your mom is awesome

  8. Just finished the Vaas island mission in Far Cry 3, and have to say that the developers approach to the storyline and characters has to be one of the most bizarre mishmashes in video game history. It's actually kind of amazing how well the rest of the game turned out considering how sloppy the story concept is. None of it really makes much sense, and then they've grafted in the Alice in Wonderland quotes during the load times to try and cover up for that.

  9. It doesn't get any better either. It's like they are trying to introduce some kind of bizarre, out of place drug theme in what would otherwise be a really good sandbox shooter. I don't think it ruins the game but it will make you say WTF a few times. I'll be interested in knowing what you think of the next "boss" type character.

  10. So there's another Ink Monster type of encounter, or do you mean Hoyt?

  11. We'll I guess when I think about it there are several boss type characters . Vaas and Hoyt are the obvious ones but there is another guy who is kind of random in the story. He's one of the better characters I've ever encountered in a game.

  12. Buck, perhaps? That was an odd but mostly enjoyable series of missions. He's already been dealt with though, as that was prior to the trippy LSD showdown with Vaas. I've made it to the privateer stage on the Southern island now...and finally activated the last radio tower in the game. Those get kind of annoying towards the end.

  13. Yes, buck who likes to Fock. I thought he was later in the game. I'm pretty sure he was gona rape me but luckily the disco fight sequence kicked in. I've never wanted to kill a character so bad and that is what made him so good.

The last few radio towers just pissed me off so I left them.

  14. Borderlands 2

Trying to solo this game is about as much fun as watching paint dry.

It feels like trying to play Left for Dead or an instance from WoW with no teammates. It was clearly not meant to be played alone. Also, the attempts at humor aren't really funny. They're just kind of lame.

I'm pretty sure this was a waste of $20 for me.

  15. I wrote borderlands 1 off as crap until I played it with mates. Then it became a great game. I wouldn't entertain borderlands 2 on my own.

  16. You haven't really played Borderlands until you've had a good dose of monslywebz along with it.

  17. Far Cry 3

It's not utterly terrible like FC2, and the graphics are good. But it feels kind of generic and mediocre. There doesn't seem to be much that sets it apart from every other open world game I've played. It also doesn't seem to have much of a story.

Also, once you get into the missions, they're completely linear. It strikes me as an open world game that has no particularly good reason for being an open world game.

Edit: The conclusion I'm coming to the more I play this is that it's basically just Assassin's Creed with a Far Cry theme over it.

  18. If you put more time into it, you'll find that FC3 is actually a very well made open world shooter that is saddled with a complete mess of a story. I thought that it seemed generic during the first couple of hours, but changed my mind.

  19. The story might be bizarre but the story missions are pretty good.

  20. What kind of slavery ring is it supposed to be on the island? Are they selling people into toilet slavery? That probably explains why the dude wants his friends back so badly. He doesn't want them suffer the same fate as the people in the stories I've posted. That evil mohawk guy probably poops in peoples' mouths.
