The Evil Within: Picked this up for cheap yesterday. I only had a little go with the opening chapter but so far I quite like it. The graphics don't look that great but that is probably because the new generation has corrupted my mind on how graphics can look. I still have GTAV as well which I have not played much.
Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 I really enjoyed Lords of Shadow, this one didn't score as well in reviews and I don't think I am enjoying it quite as much but it isn't a bad game by any means. The combat can be frustrating if you come up against something that blocks a lot and you don't have any chaos energy but I seem to be getting better at getting hits in and dodging.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter I was kind of put off by it's complete lack direction but I'm probably halfway through it and it's coming together now.
mass Effect 3: Picked up this bad boy for a fiver. More of the same which is fine by me. Enjoyable so far.
At launch, ME3 was two thirds of a great game with a stinky ending. They've fixed the ending up a lot since it was released though, so you might not have a problem with it. I actually thought the new high war assetts "Destroy" ending was pretty decent and in keeping with the spirt of the other games, and would now bump it up from a 6/10 to an 8.5/10 based on it now having a proper ending that explains everything and keeps the universe alive. If that ending had been available at launch, no one would have been angry. The original ending was terrible. In retrospect it seems silly that EA initially messed up the ending to one of the greatest game franchises of all time because they were busy working on a Star Wars MMO no one actually played that went free to play within a year. But after tons of fan backlash, they've fixed up the ending and mostly gotten it right. I'd recommend not watching the original ending, as it was rubbish and will just leave you angry and confused. If I remember correctly, the game has been updated so you don't ever see the original ending, but it's still out there on youtube. Also IIRC you can now get high war assetts without ever touching the multiplayer.
I know about the crappy ending so Downloaded the patch for the extended one straight away. Just wish the combat gameplay was still like the first. That game was epic. Playing this And Evil within together as well as Gtav online when I feel like it. Swamped for games haha.
It get's really interesting by the end of the first episode. A great game but not as good as the Walking Dead. Well worth playing through though.
It is, I was close to the platinum on Ps3 and now I am close on Ps4. Despite the fact that I consider myself a nintendork, I still prefer Rayman Legends than any other platformer (including Marios). RL is great on so many levels, starting from the awesome design and ending on exceptional soundtrack. Plus, it is really challenging, some time attack can be very frustrating to beat. I don't remeber if we are PSN friends but if you play on ps4, you could add me so that we compete in Challenges. I still play RL, daily or every two, three days. Btw. Archives.org made 2400+ old dos games playable online in a browser port of the DOSBox. Pretty awesome if you ask me. https://archive.org/details/softwarelibrary_msdos_games/v2
Shadow Warrior Holy fuckballs this game is terrible. I mean I guess if their goal was to make it feel like an authentic shitty budget shooter from the 90s with poor level design and dumb, repetitive enemies, they suceeded.
Ha. I almost loaded that one up the other day. My understanding is that they did actually intend to make a 90s shooter.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII FFXIII had hard bosses and this game isn't any different but with the time limit and odd way of levelling it seems harder in this game. I think I messed up the way I played the first couple of days so I am going to start again.
I still have FFXIII-2 to buy and start again as never got to finish it. How does XIII-2 compare to the first two?
I think you mean FFXIII-3? It is a very very different game. The combat system is something entirely new, it is based on 3 different ATBs and you are allowed to assign 4 skills to each (although some garbs have locked skills). As you use moves your ATB runs down so you are always having to manage it and switch between garbs. I really could do with finding imperil, only have deprotect so far but everything has massive defense anyway so it really doesn't help me. I am still getting used to it and blocking is a very important mechanic that can mean the difference between life and death. It took me around 8 tries to beat Chocobo Eater on day 2 and I only managed to do that once I had gotten blocking down. I tried to kill the final boss of main quest 1 and got to 1/4 health each time and always failed, that was when I realised I need to start again. Because you have the 13 day limit you have to make sure you do things as efficiently as possible and I have already lost 2 days and barely done any side quests. Side quests are where you improve your stats, you get nothing but Gil and EP from random battles. My plan is to start again and spend the first 2/3 days just doing side quests. The problem is on normal and above everything eats time, you run from battle you lose an hour! You go to another area (some areas are huge) and the clock keeps ticking down. In normal you don't get that much EP from battle and the battles are long and can be tough. On easy your health regenerates out of battle and normal it doesn't. You can only carry 6 healing items so you have to balance when to run and when to fight but you need the EP to stop time. Most side quests can only be done at certain times of the day so again time management is key. You do get stat boosts from main quests but only for the final boss of each of the 5 main quests so side quests seem to be a must. I have already sunk many hours into it and the time has flown by but I didn't get too far so hopefully starting over won't seem too dull. At least you can skip cutscenes. I did pick normal but all the guides say you should start on easy for a first time so I may do that, the enemies don't take that much of an impact from playing on easy, the big difference is the extra EP gain and the no time loss for escaping. You don't get as many good drops on easy but the game is VERY hard as I have already found out so I may do that whilst I find my feet. Apparently Hard mode is just that, a real hardcore challenge but you have to finish it to unlock.
I'm actually enjoying Shadow Warrior more as I play it, mostly for the stupid humor, the abilities, and just how over the top some of the fights get. It definitely has an old school feel, similar to games like Painkiller, Duke Nukem, Quake, or Doom. I never played anything other than the demo of the original Shadow Warrior back in the 90s. The original was kind of racist, but also kind of hilarious. They've toned down the racism this time, but it's still funny. I kind of like the main character, Lo Wang. He's a complete douchebag who doesn't seem to be terribly bothered by the fact that he caused a demonic invasion of earth or about killing everything in sight, including cops and soldiers trying to stop said demonic invasion, and everything about him is a never ending penis joke. I guess he's really more of an anti-hero, and feels like he belongs in a game from the 90s. The really positive reviews on Steam are making more sense now. However, I'd put this game more in the goodbad category. It's the game equivalent of a terribad guilty pleasure movie like Jason X, but it's self aware of its own badness which makes it funny. You probably shouldn't spend more than $5 on it.
Just tried out the demo of MH4U myself. Loved it. The massive areas and ability to climb most things as well as riding the monsters is a neat upgrade. I did the highest difficulty available and just done all three monsters. The Gore magala was a wicked fight, not even one death. Bet he will be a bitch on G rank mode.
