What Games Are You Playing?

  1. I started playing FFXIII-2 back when GTAV first came out. To me it had all of the problems of XIII and none of the good things, like the story.

I loved the story in FFXIII so much I played through the game twice. The story in XIII-2 was just overly complicated, and I'm usually pretty good at keeping track of time travel tales. I frequently didn't know where (or when) I was supposed to be going and as a result of that plus the boring story that featured the characters from the first game way too little, I gave up playing it.

I heard XIII-3 has even less story and what little is there is incoherent and doesn't really resolve anything. So I won't buy it. They really should have stopped at XIII. I mean, almost everyone who played it hated it. So why did they think the most unpopular FF game in decades would be worth not only a sequel, but for the first time in the franchise TWO sequels? I don't even know about FF any more. I thought I'd want to play FFXIV but everyone said it was meh and I've come to realise MMO mechanics just piss me off with the OTT grinding all the time for little reward.

I don't have high hopes for FFXV either. The game that's been in development hell for so long that at least 4 FF games have been released since it's announcement.

  2. FFXIV is quality. Just came off a small session of it as we speak as I am at end game. Lots of grinding yes but so much content and features lots of FF throwbacks like yesterday I was in a 8 man battle against Ultros from FF6 and Typhon from FF7 while the FF6 boss music was going on. Amazing game.

XIII was alright but it lacked what Final Fantasy is and it was more of a hallway simulator. I actually like FFXIII-2 so far and I have found it easy enough to follow the story and where to go. Chrono Trigger knock off though. FFXIV has a better story then all the XIII games it's actually pretty good.

  3. Plenty of streams on Twitch of people playing the FFXV demo that came with Type-0 HD. Reviewers have all been very positive about it even with its very different battle system.

  4. Bloodborne for 2 days. Still haven't killed the first boss, the Cleric Beast but I am exploring the city just running by and it's HUGE. There are shortcuts like in DkS which let you skip large parts of the level, there is even a lift, much like the one in Firelink.

The design is absolutely brilliant, the only tiny complaint is some low-res textures.
The combat system doesn't let you block which forces an offensive style and it doesn't suit me best, I just have to get used to it.

I believe it's going to be months until I finish it but I love it, every single bit of this game is a core Souls at its finests.

  5. Started playing Unity as I haven't had time yo pick up Bloodborne yet.

After a 6.5GB patch already had 3 glitches in 10 minutes.

1: When a cutscene started my hair popped on.

2: Fighting first assassin at a transition game just froze.

3 : When it did finally load, I fought the assassin for 5 minutes before I realised he wasn't gonna die. Reloaded and he died in 20 seconds...

    Awesome start.

  6. What platform? Have finished it on ps4 and had no issues, before the patch and also after the patch.

  7. PS4, the first hour after that was OK.

  8. You were really unlucky then and don't these random glitches spoil your experience. This is a fine game, not as fresh as AC2 was back then, however assuming you were not happy with the pirate mood (I really couldn't get into it in Black Flag), Paris not only brings fine memories of Venice but adds a current gen quality.

In particular, I couldn't play any past-gen AC anymore after I got used to the density of crowd at streets. Play for several hours here, then go back to any previous game and you'll feel like the place is deserted.

This introduces an unwanted issue, however, as the engine is uncapable of rendering such massive crowds when you climb up really high. It's just like you see a hundred of people when you are at street level but like dozen of people when you look at the street from a church tower. I am not sure this is something that can be addressed this gen.

My overall reception of the whole game was like 8/10, I still remember AC2 as slightly better but Unity is just behind.

  9. I really enjoyed Black Flag and that's part of the reason I didn't find myself really getting into this at the start.. Gonna give it time but if I pick up bloodborne can see it going on the back burner.

  10. Bloodborne will definitely suck you in for weeks.

This is what I got today from PSN Store

The tab name is "Personal recommendations" and the message says:

Because you are playing Bloodborne : Nothing can be found.

That is actually pretty accurate! What else could possibly be recommended if I already play Bloodborne ;)

  11. Still playing Homeworld Remastered. Just captured around 120 ion cannon frigates guarding the hyperspace inhibitor protecting the homeworld. Which I think I'm going to need because the very next mission starts out with a massive imperial fleet escorting an asteroid they've strapped rockets to that they're trying to ram into the mothership.

I never actually played the second game back in the day. I'm almost finished with Homeworld and I'm hoping Homeworld 2 is just as epic.

  12. Still playing monster hunter 4u. Currently at silver G crown and working my way through the G3 quests. These guys hit hard though.
Currently using regios x armour which has steady hand (mind's eye and razor sharp combined) constitution +2, sharpness +1 and currently tremor resist gemmed in. Don't have enough slots to gem out slow sharpening but it's no big deal.

Still looking at making a decent mixed armour set with good skills but my talismans haven't been too great so far. My best one is probably handicraft+5 ice attack +14, no slots.

Looking to incorporate honed blade in a new armour set but making one that doesn't look terrible is tricky.

  13. AC: Unity - Not drawing me in like Black Flag did, I think the fixed setting isn't helping. Being able to cruise accross the oceans and visit other places helped Black Flag not feel stale. Will persevere with it, I have started so I will finish.

Bloodborne - Got a couple of hours into it last night, didn't feel it was overly hard. I only died once in the 2 hours and that was because I took on a guy down an ally who was obviously above my starting level. Found some kind of mask at the end of my time which allowed me to start leveling up back in the hub. I did loads of exploration but didn't come across a single boss, I did come across an NPC lady but not sure what she gave me. I opened up quite a few shortcuts back to areas I had been before so knowing my luck I skipped one of the paths that leads to a boss.

The gameplay is incredibly fluid compared to console version of Dark Souls and Dark Souls II which is fantastic as you don't get that juddering feel you got in frantic combat with those games (Dark Souls II: Scholar of the first sin is out on PS4 next week and will be 60FPS so that should help but won't be able to compare until I pick it up). The visuals are amazing, you really do feel like you are in a hopelessly lost city full of malformed creatures.

Hopefully it carries on this way.

  14. I played a couple more hours tonight and although I managed the Cleric Beast first try I really chewed through blood vials.

I am really struggling to get dodges and i-frames under my control. In the souls games you could get a feel for when you would be invincible but the side and back hops instead of rolls are making it really hard for me to judge when to move. The game is way more action oriented than souls where you can use a shield to take your time, in this it is all out attack or be attacked.

The boss was really aggressive and when locked on I found it hard to see what he was going to do to predict my dodges. I suppose the fact that it was first time didn't help but if the other bosses are the same I expect a tough time!

  15. Is Lightning returns worth getting Grim?

  16. It is OK, a very different game to the other 2 and quite difficult as well on normal.

If you can get it for under £10 you may as well have a go to finish the story.

  17. I only want to play it for the story now I finished XIII-2(Saved myself buying the DLC for the true ending and watched a youtube video, which is good as the DLC was bullshit) but I don't think I want to pay a high amount for it so I will wait for a low price. I read a review last night and the leveling up via quests and side quests instead of battles seems like a bullshit gimmick though.

  18. If you didn't do the sidequests this game would be stupidly short so it gives it longevity, especially when they were trying to drive home this 13 days til the end of the world thing. If you can finish it in 2 days not much point is there. You also HAVE to wait until day 13 to go to the end game so if you have 5 or so days left over prepare to watch a lot of load screens.

If you just want story play on Easy as you get regenerating health and enemies are not so tough. You only have so many slots for potions in this game and bosses can really make you chew through them. In normal this means that if you run out of potions you are fucked if there is a boss coming up. Caius is one of the hardest bosses I have ever fought and even on easy he can be a challenge. He actually feels cheap at times as he can do so many hits in quick succession. The other bosses get harder after day 7 but I beat them all before that so have no idea if they suffer from the same thing.

  19. Father Gascoigne took me 4 attempts. The hardest bit was timing my shots to stagger him, that and getting trapped by scenery.

Not have a shield or an effective roll (that I am yet used to anyway) really makes bosses in Bloodborne a lot harder than in any Souls game.
