What Games Are You Playing?

  1. That's not saying much I guess because this game is pretty lame. Would have requested a refund if it was on Steam.

Also not seeing what's so great about the story. It's just The Walking Dead + Children of Men with less interesting characters. It's predictable and zombie stuff has been done to death. The gameplay is a corridor crawl with quick time events. Meh. 4/10. But just because the intro was good.

I guess console people are just easily impressed by mediocre games.

  2. Oh so I take it you finished the whole game then?

  3. If a game doesn't grab me in the first hour and a half I usually request a refund. I'm not going to wait around for a magical "get better' button to unlock. Every time I try to get into console gaming I come away with the conclusion that console gamers have much lower standards than PC gamers. This reminds me of those CD based FMV games that were on PC in the early 90's, like 7th Guest and Myst. In an hour and half of playing I think I pressed three buttons. There's hardly any interactivity to it. Why not just watch a movie? Or if you really want to see this movie, I guess you could just watch it on Youtube. Judged as a movie, it's a 7/10. Good intro, but it gets boring. As a game, it's a 0/10.

  4. That's hilarious that you say that because that's LITERALLY what I did. A dude worked super hard to make a playthrough video and re-edit it into a cinematic experience.

Since I'm a sucker for story heavy games, I was wanting to get a ps4 just to get the remastered version of this game and play it. But this guy's playthrough was enough for me.

  5. I always wondered why cmdrmonkey continued to watch so many movies when he disliked most of them and now I know: he has a 90 minute tolerance for things he dislikes. Perfect symmetry.

  6. I guess monkey isn't comfortable unless he's using at least four buttons to move

  7. I can't aim for crap with thumbsticks either. I have no idea how you guys do it. It just sucks so bad compared to a mouse.

  8. You get used to it. Inverted ftw!

  9. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Quite enjoyed this one, even if it's everything monkey hates; a walking sim with one button to press.

The little slices of life that you stumble across are quite effective in making Yaughton feel like a living place and revealing more of the story. The only disappointment was the ending.

    The music is fantastic.

    I'd say 7/10.

Wouldn't have minded a faster run speed though.

  10. Hopefully that comes to PSplus one day.

  11. @chi: you can hold R2 to speed up but it takes a while and the difference isn't much.

I thought it was a very different experience and I enjoyed it. Thought the narrative really hit its stride towards the end as the fragments came together.

    SPOILERS:

What was wrong with the ending? I thought Kate's story wasn't the strongest but it tied in fine and was the only real conclusion could see for the story.

  12. Yeah I knew about holding R2, it's still a bit too slow when you're backtracking, I felt. I skipped on a lot of exploration towards the end because it was beginning to feel a bit tedious.

The ending just felt a bit weak compared to everything else. After you've spent all that time piecing together the little snippets, one by one, there wasn't really any great revelation.

I was hoping for a decent explanation, I guess.

  13. Yeah, the speed was a pain later in the game. I disliked the big open areas in the second half because of it. Felt it either needed a bit less freedom or more speed by then. I might go for the trophies but they're pretty dire.

  14. I'm definitely going to play through again for the story parts I missed. Might try some of the trophies but there's a lot of stuff to look at fit them.

  15. I played The Legend of Zelda last night. I hadn't played it since it came out 27 years ago. Listening to the music gave me chills in a weird flash back kind of way. It was powerful stuff. Not sure any other game could do that.

  16. Been playing Mario Kart 8. The designs on these tracks is pretty amazing stuff. It's the first Nintendo game to make me say wow.

  17. It's a beautiful game and the races are amazing. Shame they've fucked up so badly on battle mode. Shocking that is.

  18. I'm surprised they don't fix it or add DLC for the old style. I just bought all the new DLC for it. Most of those maps are great too.

My favorites are Ribbon Road and Animal Crossing which picks a random season.

  19. but already I note a part where it feels like somebodie's playing it... several part's really. It's been a while but I think this one of Jurrasic Park feels a bit smoother.

Made by the awesome Adam Karolik. This is the guy I said has every official (and quite a few non-official) Dreamcast stuff made. He also knows quite a bit about other consoles, if your interested in obscure vidya game knowledge I suggest you check out his 'x-generation' videos. I think he just about covers everything (but current cel phones- which I now recognize as generation 9 :D). This video was made because he just felt so darned special when his subscribers went passed 1mil that he went ahead and broke copy-write rules for us all. Anyway it's been a while but I don't think there were any long corridors of "tank controls" to put up with. Your guy needs to take a lesson in 'cinematic' lolo.

  20. Counter-Strike Global Offensive

Was lukewarm on it when it first came out. But Valve has overhauled it to where I now like it more than Source. The weapons feel great, and they overhauled the hitbox system. It now feels more like a legit CS game and less like a CoD clone. The weapons feel less nerfed than in Source and 1.6. I'd actually say that they feel more like earlier versions of CS from way back in the day. The popularity of it has also come back. 8 million unique players a month, and 700K or more people playing at any given time. I've been playing since 2001 and I've never seen CS this popular or active. I think the casino/auction house aspect of it may have helped. I'm totally indifferent to custom sprayed guns, so I've already made money for my steam wallet selling stuff.

A word to old players, most people don't play on custom servers that you find through the server browser like in the old days. It's all about the casual and competitive matchmaking servers you find through the "find a game" matchmaking system, which are a totally separate thing. But those matchmaking servers work very well and get you into a well populated game with at least 20 people playing in about 5 seconds with a map rotation of your chosing. I actually find it a lot faster to jump into a game now and start playing than in earlier versions of CS, where you had to hunt for a server with lots of people playing, but that still had a few empty slots that were actual player slots and not spectator slots. That's all done for you now automatically.
