What Games Are You Playing?

  1. That Jurassic Park as a movie is amazing! Chi is going to have to up his Youtube (and Rocket League) game.

    @cmdrmonkey

The problem I had with CS:GO was I couldn't tell any of the character models apart. That was around launch time, and I just went back to Source. Has that been fixed? I recently tried to play Source and was disappointed with how scarce it is. It was the one time most played game of all time.

  2. So that's what you were doing when the forum died yesterday; binging on curry and watching that whole Jurassic park video.

I try, but with monsly and grim on my team, it's like trying to eat a pizza and soup at the same time with my arms and legs tied behind my back.

  3. Yes, the character models have changed. That was one of the biggest changes that I immediately noticed. Now each level has a theme, with different terrorist and counter-terrorist groups that correspond to the map.

Take Office for instance. The counter-terrorists are the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team and the terrorists are anarchists. Dust has Israeli paratrooper commandos fighting Arab terrorists. And so on for each level. I actually think it's really cool that the levels now have themes for the models. Downside is you don't get to pick your model. Big upside is that it's really easy to tell your team from the enemy.

CSGO is way more popular than source was at its peak. Take the player base for Source when it was in its prime and multiply that by about 3 of 4. Anyone taking a break from CS should get back into it. It's never been as good or as popular as it is right now.

  4. God, I just checked Steam. I have a disgusting 620hrs [25+ DAYS] clocked on CS:S... I'm almost afraid to load up CS:GO... I think my 2nd most played game was DOA2 on PS2. I clocked like 250 hrs on that and it wasn't even an online fighter.

Ain't nobody got time for that! Now I play Asphault 8 on my phone. It's a pretty solid game.

    @Chi
lol I'm 0/2 with upgrading this place.... will try again later. Tapatalk will stop working at the end of the month otherwise.

  5. The auction house aspect of it with rare guns and knives, crates, and opening crates that may have very valuable items or junk makes it way more addictive too, and it was already super addictive. Winning now means getting stuff you can sell to fill your steam wallet to buy other games. Some people get rare knives, which are worth about $300 in Steam wallet money.

  6. lol I got rekt... barely held a 1:3 kill/death ratio. I used to have customized settings in Source from console. Gotta figure out how that best translates to CS:GO. What mouse sensitivity did you go with?

  7. I think it's around 5. But it's probably pretty meaningless unless we both have the same mouse on the same dpi setting. Using a logitech G502 proteus core. And I tend to prefer high sensitivity so I can turn quickly. I basically go with a sensitivity that's high enough that I can turn quickly, but low enough to shoot precisely. You have some crazy people who put it on the lowest setting and swing their arms around in huge motions, but I would imagine that's a fatiguing way to play. Or you have people like my brother who put the sensitivity super high, which is also fatiguing.

I love being an asshole during the warmup round. I camp by the enemy spawn point with an auto sniper and I can repeatedly take out the whole enemy team as they spawn and respawn. It's hilarious and they get so pissed off. I got the achievements for both autosnipers using this method.

My K:D is around 1:1. I'm still really rusty. I'm also not familiar with any of the maps from the Operation Bloodhound group, so I tend to die a lot on those because I don't really know the chokepoints or what weapons to use where. Even some of the classic maps have had subtle changes.

The weapons have also changed a lot. The MP7 for instance has a different feel than the MP5. It seems more accurate with better range. And the M4 is now two guns: the M4A4 with a 30 round magazine, and the M4A1-S with a silencer and a 20 round magazine. Autosnipers are also much better now. I really like the scoped SCAR-H. The changes took some getting use to.

  8. I don't even have the necessary rank for match making. I've been forced to play some weird customized games which have not helped my K/D numbers... although I did pretty good at pistols only and AWP only. I kept getting bounced from one server or another for inexplicable reasons include my "steam ID is not allowed".

They definitely tweaked the guns. Probably for the better in an overall sense, but it's shitty for people returning to the game. I used to rotate the top 2 spots with a DE on the server I played. But it's no longer the monster it used to be, I used to be able out-snipe AWP'ers in the office corridor with it!

If they do away with the favorite server concept in favor of matchmaking, I suppose ranks and K/D don't matter much anymore.

  9. You should be able to play on the casual servers with normal maps and game modes, which is what most people seem to play on anyway. I think it's just the competitive servers that require you to rank up to level 3, but only the really hardcore players play on those.

I actually felt like they went overboard in nerfing a lot of the guns in source. Anything other than a deagle, M4, AK, or awp was a poor choice, and that got very boring. GO has a wider range of decent weapons.

  10. I think that the reason I only logged about 40 minutes with GO at launch. I was getting frustrated trying figure out who to shoot. “oh look a friend…bam I’m dead.” Oh look and enemy…bam team killer!” I think spending more time on it might have helped but I’m lazy. I also went back to Source a few weeks ago. All my favorite servers are dead. I think I miss the social aspect of the game more than the actual game play. Once you get on a favorite server you get to know all the people pretty well. A glass of scotch and a game of Source with people you know was a great way to wind down after a day at work.

  11. But you've got the warm embrace of the forumites to enjoy.

You've seen how well everything goes with us Brits.

  12. @bfun

Like I said, that has been fixed in a big way. It's now easier than ever to tell the teams apart.

Source is dead because GO got overhauled to the point where it's a better game than Source, and the player base of Source has moved on to GO. I would highly recommend giving it another try. It's nothing like it was 2-3 years ago.

You can either whine like an old man about a dead game from 10 years ago, or jump into a version of CS that currently has a bigger player base than World of Warcraft, and is the most popular, most played version of CS yet. Source is really dated now anyway. It needed to be updated.

  13. Yeah maybe I'll try it again someday. Titanfall is still my go to game for fast action and I haven't even tried BF4 which I bought a while back for some reason. I think I'll just stick to complaining about how bad GO was when it came out.

  14. I really liked Titanfall, but gave up because no one plays it these days. The servers are pretty much empty. BF4 was basically dead on arrival. There was almost no one playing it even at launch.

GO is great now. Valve really took all of the criticism people had at launch to heart. And as a result, its popularity has skyrocketed. It now rivals League of Legends, World of Warcraft, and Dota2 for most popular online game on PC.

EA ignores customer feedback, and its multiplayer games are dead.

  15. I had to go through the trouble of joining a forum and waiting a week for approval just to grab the IP addresses of my favorite servers. These guys do a lot of custom maps you just don't see anywhere. Most of Source was wasted on Dust2...

  16. Well if I play I'll give them a go. I loved rare custom maps.

Here is one of my favorites.

  17. Yep, I've played that on their server. Have you tried Nipper Opus? I was a little buzzed when I tried it and thought I was tripping out. I would say I played atleast 2 dozen maps I otherwise wouldn't have heard of because of them.

Alamo is server favorite and one of the best maps on Source in my opinion. They are open to playing a wide variety and I've gotten my personal favorite Piranesi on the rotation a lot. Unfortunately, a lot of people love Westwood on that server, I have always hated both versions of that but it always gets rtv'd. They alsohave a realistic grenades mod that can make or break matches.

    This is alamo:

  18. Fifa 16. FUT online of course.

  19. Mad Max

This game is exactly like Shadow of Mordor but completely different. Take Shadow of Mordor and remove all the stealth, magic, and ability to climb things and then add shot guns, sniper rifles, and a car that’s got a hundred upgrades and you get Mad Max. At first it didn’t seem compelling and I thought I might put it down but now it’s got me hooked. Battling it out with other cars on the road is a lot of fun. Sadly getting out of the car to capture enemy bases on foot is a bit of a drag.

  20. NBA 2K16

The Spike Lee directed portion of MyCareer was kind of interesting. He didn't try to do anything overly cinematic or "high end" with it, but kept the story fairly simple and focused on the character dialogue. It was the type of story you would (for the most part) expect for the game, but done in a way that was more realistic and down to earth. I was actually kind of surprised at how straight-forward it was, but it was an effective set-up for the rest of that part of the game.
