Gaybois are very good at swordfighting. And from the commercials it looked like they had some huge swords. Excuse me while I go write some FFXV homoerotic fanfiction.
I don't agree, I think the combat was boring. There were so few abilities and as such it was just hit them with the sword and dash around until they die.
True actually. Perhaps if they mapped out the controls better in battle they could have added more but FF15 mapped theirs badly.
Platinum Games is going full 60 fps Bayonetta-caliber real time combat in a open-world action RPG Neir: Automata. I guess we'll see if that combination works in a few weeks. Given that Platinum and Team Ninja are pretty much the best in the business with hack and slash/ action controls and mechanics, it does create the amusing situation that pure action games from their lesser competitors will have weaker game play and controls than the hybrid action/ RPGs these guys are releasing.
Dude. You should uninstall for a few months. Been down this path with Counter-Strike many times since 1999. In fact, it was your praises that brought me out of my last CS exile!
Ha. I have about 1000 hours logged on Source and I'm pretty sure I had another 1000 logged before they even started keeping track of that kind of thing. There was a time when my job was really stressful and there was nothing better than going full in on the game and forgetting about the world. Of course, at one point I was probably playing 4 hours a day and I got so twitchy I'd swear I'd see players peaking around corners in real life. So yeah, taking breaks can be really good.
Quantum Break They fixed the performance problems and it's out on Steam, so I can now play it properly. So far I'd say it's a shame they botched the launch of this game, putting it on a console no one owns and then on the Windows store which no one uses and having major technical problems, because it's actually rather good. The time shift abilities combined with third person shooting and an interactive TV show feels like the next logical step of what Remedy was doing with the Max Payne games. Feels like a solid 8/10 so far
I've been playing Horizon: Zero Dawn almost nonstop. I didn't expect it to be quite this good. Guerrilla Games really stepped it up this time. It's a technical marvel just like KZ2 was, but the storytelling is closer to something I'd expect from Naughty Dog than Guerrilla. I'm very impressed.
The negative reviews of Quantum Break are making more sense as I get further into the game. The TV show isn't very engaging despite having some good actors in it. And who wants to watch 30 minute TV episodes while playing a game? The video game portion has clunky movement, annoying puzzles, and abilities that don't seem very powerful or useful.
@alterego February through March 2017 has been one of the strongest early year stretches for gaming that I can remember. It's packed with excellent adventure games and action RPGs. I could see a lot of awards being won by games released within that narrow span of time.
Far Cry Primal This game would have done much better if they'd dropped Far Cry from the name. As a Far Cry game, it's not very good. As a survival game, it's probably one of the best. I go back and forth from being bored with it to having some fun. The game looks great but running around with stone axes and spears can get kind of old.
Did they basically make a full game out of something similar to the Shangri La segments of Far Cry 4? Because I thought those were the weakest segments of that game.
In some ways it's like that and I'd say it does draw on the weakest elements of Far Cry. Resource gathering was my least favorite aspect of the series and this game is all about that for the first few hours. Rock, wood, skins, plants. Over and over. What is good about it though is that it stays pretty faithful to the theme. After a while, it really feels like you're in 10,000 BC so as a 10,000 BC simulator it's pretty good. However, the developers couldn't help themselves and they added some drug induced hallucination moments just so you know it's still Far Cry.
Horizon: Zero Dawn. A stunning looking game that gives Uncharted 4 a run for its money despite being an open world. Only played for a few hours and the storyline is already a huge improvement over the killzone titles and I'm interested to see where it goes. Combat is actually fun, unlike something like the Witcher 3. The day one patch enabled an option to favour resolution or framerate which is nice but unnecessary, in my opinion. On both ps4s the framerate is practically rock steady at 30fps, with rare drops to 29fps under heavy load. I no rite, litrally unplayable. Guerilla Games have done some sort of witchcraft with their decima engine. If you told me the game actually downloaded an upgraded processor and more RAM, I would accept it, no questions asked.
+chi Are you playing it on a base PS4 or a Pro? I've got pretty much every feature going on a Pro and OLED, and it's a sight to behold. I'm pretty far into the game now, and the story has remained very strong. Melee and ranged combat are indeed fun, although I think it's amusing the R1, R2, roll, and combo animations are mapped and copied right out of Dark Souls.
