I've been playing GTA3 a lot recently. I bought the GTA triple pack for PS4 a couple of years ago for cheap and figured I could knock out the platinums in no time. Boy was I wrong. I played through GTA3 doing all the missions first, I got to the and but my stats said I'd done 72 out of 73 missions. I thought I'd done everything. Turns out I did a Salvatore mission before I'd finished all of Joey's missions and managed to cut myself off from ever being able to complete the Joey mission, meaning I can't get 100% complete, meaning no platinum. My only option was to start all over again. So I said fuck it and put the game down for a while and never touched Vice City or San Andres. Cut to two years later, a couple of weeks ago, I felt the desire to finally get around to getting the platinum again. This time I was gonna make sure I avoided missing any missions. There's only two points where you can cut missions off for yourself and I avoided them. This time I was doing the side stuff along the way like hidden packages, stunt jumps, that sort of thing. Anyway, I finally make it to the third island after a week solid of playing the game, and I find I can't complete the first D-Ice phone mission. Turns out I'd been hit with the 'purple nines glitch' which happens if you start a new game on a save file where you'd already completed D-Ice's missions. Completing his missions removes the purples nines from the game, even if you start a new game. And his first mission requires you to kill 20 purple nines. So once again I'd made it basically the end of the game and was faced with having to restart the fucking game. I couldn't believe it. No way was I gonna put the game down for another two years, and no way was I gonna have put that much time into the game and not get the platinum. So I immediately started from scratch, again. I learned how to glitch to the second and third islands early so I could go to the third island and check to see if the purple nines were there before I put the time in to get there legit. They were there. So then I did ALL the side stuff before even touching a mission. Paramedic, firefighting, vigilante, hidden packages, stunt jumps, rampages, and most of the import/export lists. Now I'm about to end up on the third island and finish the few remaining story missions to finally get my 100% complete stat, platinum trophy, and delete the game forever. Then one day I'll put Vice City on and get the platinum, but not yet. I've had enough 3D era GTA for this month. It's pretty much all I've played this year.
I played The Division for about 1 hour and wasn't feeling it. I wasn't in the mood for another go back to base and fetch quest game.
God of War Yes I am late to the party but fuck me this game is awesome, best in the series and so much better than its Gamecube punching predecessors.
I have been putting off getting that for ages. I will get around to it once all these games stop coming out.
I think I saw God of War on PSN on sale for $25 USD yesterday. Might be on sale over there, too. It's a very good game, one of the best from last year.
It's going to have to wait until I have finished Clare B on REmake 2 and then I will be getting Kingdom Hearts 3. Should be £20 by then hopefully.
Assassins Creed: Origins I'm really liking it so far but I liked every Assassins Creed game in the beginning. Then at some point I stop playing. I think III is the only one I ever finished.
I haven't played some of the most recent games but Origins feel like a huge improvement with motion and control. It hasn't felt monotonous, yet, like many of the past games, and I haven't been forced into any platform puzzles which I hate.
I have only played 1, 2, Black Flag and now Origins. The rest were just the same with new skins/story so was no point really as the ones I played were the best ones. Might try the 3rd one remastered though if only to finish the original trilogy.
I played AC 1 and 2. 2 was probably a better game but it dragged on too long and didn’t know when to end. I haven’t bothered with the others. They look like more of the same. I think I even own 3 and Black Flag but have never bothered to install them.
Black Flag was awesome. Its had the best story of the lot and featured the real pirate know captaina of the era. Ship battles were fun as was exploring the lush islands. Origins and odeyssey has new combat which is much better imo.
Black Flag was the worst for me. I guess I like a good story but after several hours into that game I still had no idea what was happening. Was the game about a thug who wanted to elevate himself to pirate? Boring.
I've been binge playing Division 2 on PC recently. The campaign has been pretty enjoyable, and their Washington, D.C. environment is very impressive. I've only encountered one of a particular type of enemy I really enjoyed battling from Division 1, but it made a very strong impression to let you know they're in there somewhere, a preview for endgame content. It seems fairly well optimized, and I noticed when booting it up that it's been tuned for AMD hardware, which typically means it runs smoothly on most hardware setups. The skills are interesting, but it's impossible to know how strong or weak they really are yet because most mods aren't going to work until you reach endgame and build in a manner in which skill mods can be activated. You need a high Skill stat to activate the mods, which is where most of their power seems to be locked. Each of the 3 specializations have a special skill variant. I have been using a healing seeker mine, which I actually didn't even know about until I unlocked specializations. It rolls around healing people on its own or can be controlled manually when desired. I've been using that Mender mine with the Oxidizer Chem Launcher, which does massive armor damage and is also a low key sniper killer from surprising distances if you shoot this corrosive cloud (DoT designed to corrode armor but potent enough to also kill low health enemies like snipers) into their sniper perch. EDIT: Skill mods are apparently bugged and aren't supposed to be absurdly demanding for the Skill stat. I hope they add a few more specializations in the future, which would be easy to do. Most of the weapons seem pretty solid with the exceptions of shotguns, which have way too much damage dropoff currently. They obviously should only work at close range, but these are almost at melee range. Maybe they'll get better as I unlock more mods and experiment with them. There doesn't seem to be any sort of Survival mode at launch, but I'm hoping that's coming later because it was my favorite part of Division 1.
I started playing Days Gone yesterday, beginning my adventure with the 1.05 patch installed. Tons of tech and performance issues have apparently been addressed right before I got my copy. I had ~20 GB of updates to download before starting. The environment looks incredible, and it's running pretty smoothly in patched form. The presentation is unique due to both the surprising amount of verticality and the accuracy of their representation of the Pacific Northwest, where Sony Bend is located (Bend, Oregon). I have been having a pretty good time just roaming around destroying nests and taking over enemy camps. Bend is calling the zombie-like enemies "freakers," which seem to be differentiated primarily due to being alive rather than undead and exhibiting animal-like behavioral patterns. The lighting and weather effects are among the best I've seen in awhile. The audio of the thunder sounds real. Directional audio is pretty decent, allowing me to locate enemies I can't see with my headset. Most of the gameplay is similar to a lot of other open world games, but it has its own unique tone and the freaker hordes appear to be quite massive. I'm not seeing any slowdown from the huge numbers of characters lurking in the distance, which is very impressive. I heard some weird growling in a valley beneath me early in the game, but I wasn't expecting to see 70 or more enemies shuffling around below me when I peeked over the ledge. I was relieved to have enough distance between us after seeing how many were there. Apparently battling the many hordes is one of the key highlights of the game. Typically the character count of open world games tends to be very limited, particularly on the consoles with ancient CPUs, but this is not the case here. It was quite a stunning sight to roll over a hill on my motorcycle and see waves of around 40 freakers on each side attempt to suddenly close in on me, some of them even making desperate dives toward me to try to grab me off my bike as I fled the scene. It definitely brought back nostalgia of some moments from the Walking Dead show. It's too early to judge the combat due to several unlocked upgrades pertaining to that or the storytelling given the manner the narrative has been progressing. The main character seems to be traumatized and tortured by events in the past that have shaped him into a moody and unstable protagonist, but I still don't know a lot about him yet. I've been eager to see Bend's return to console development given they've only made portable games since around 2007, skipping the entire PS3 generation. They didn't take the easiest path putting together this gigantic open world game. Early impressions are around a 7.5 to 8.5, which is exactly what I expected. Early reviews will be lower than that because it launched in a rough state, which was addressed right away but too late to make the reviews. They shot themselves in the foot not getting the patches out a bit faster because the review scores are going to underrate it, which was justified to a large degree given it was full of bugs and ran rough for the first few days.
Been playing it since last thursday. Enjoying it so far but its no tlou. Had 1.07 patch today as well must be more bug fixes.
"but its no tlou." I agree this is a true statement, but I was never expecting that, either. Sony Bend's last console game was Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow in 2007. I wasn't expecting them to jump back into console development at the tail end of the PS4's life cycle and top Naughty Dog. It's kinda nuts they chose a project this massive with ~130 employees as their first PS4 game.
I really wish skill points would come faster i run out of bullets so fast. Having to refuel the bike so much is annoying Just come across my first bear luckily I could hide indoors and take shots and that.
I bought a larger gas tank right away. I think I ran out of gas once before I bought the larger gas tank. I find gas cans all over the place. There are upgrades that address most of these types of problems. I just unlocked a perk that reduced recoil on my guns; I'm hitting lots of headshots now and as a consequence use far less ammo and rarely run out. There is a high tier weapons perk that increases the amount of ammo you can carry. I've unlocked some extra stuff by saving people while wandering around in the open world; I think they give you around 500 trust points each to unlock bike upgrades if you send them to Copeland's camp. The AUG I recently bought combined with the recoil perk is cutting down enemies much faster than the starter weapons. I just defeated the bear this morning. I think I was supposed to have fought this sooner because its health was demolished by my AUG.
