It's because of the composer, Jeremy Soule. Btw, the soundtrack is great. It's surprisingly balanced, there are no easy tracks but also no clear favourites.
imo only reason to own JSRF is the soundtrack. The game was alright, I just hate skating and my slow eyes quickly got overloaded. So yeah, I can see buying a soundtrack of a game you no longer or never did like.
Civilization V - $5.99 Battlefield 3 - $7.50 I heard BF3 was pretty mediocre, so that seems like a fair price for it. If nothing else it will be a cool tech demo as I hear it does a lot of stuff with DX11 and actually takes advantage of quad core CPUs. I'm pretty sure the online for it is almost dead though. I really haven't heard anything about it since October or November of last year. Civ V I've already played, and it was good but not really worth the $60 they were charging for it when it came out.
You have to see BF3 in motion to fully appreciate the visuals. The lighting and post-processing effects stand out. It looks decent in photos but much better in motion. The audio is also extremely good. The Frostbite 2 engine is very impressive. I'd love to see a sequel to Mirror's Edge use this engine.
I remember watching the tank/desert video from battlefield 3 before it launched and was blown away. Next gen consoles need graphics of that quality. I always thought mirrors edge looked great. I can't wait for the sequel which dice said "is on our list of things to do".
I've been impressed not only by how good it looks, but also how well it runs. It's one of the best looking games I've seen, and it's also smooth as butter on high settings. I'm really impressed with what DICE did with the game engine on this one.
Picked up The Unfinished Swan his week on the PSN. Thought it was a great experience - short but full of lovely little moments.
Anyone get Assassin's Creed III. I've heard pretty good things about it. I'm considering buying it on PC when it comes out if it is a decent version and the game is as good as people have been claiming.
It seems likely that it's at least partially inspired by 'Last of the Mohicans'. I also don't think it's a coincidence that they decided to do an American Revolutionary war setting when they started development in 2010...that was the big "tea party" year in the U.S., with constant media coverage etc.
Allies yes but the line that he gives, "America might finally be free". Sounds like he never thought it was free to begin with.
I've still got Revelations sitting there waiting to be played. I played about 5 minutes of it 6 months ago. I was feeling the need to need to go back to it yesterday but Skyrim and Minecraft were more inticing. I hated the way they changed Desmond's face. I spent 3 games playing as this guy: Then they changed him to this guy: That really sucked me out of the game for a while. I had come fresh out of Brotherhood straight into Revelations and the difference was crazy and unexpected. I'll be getting AC3 but only after I can muster the want to finish Revelations, much like I'll buy Halo 4 if I can find the enthusiasm to finish Reach. Lame.
I picked up Far Cry 3 for PC. Initially, I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be, as it's not terribly impressive in the nighttime corridor area where you begin the story. It's also has a more cartoony art style compared to a lot of other games. But once you start to travel around, it really looks incredible. It's an improvement in many ways over the original Crysis, including a much better story and semi-RPG character building elements. You can unlock perks in three separate trees and customize your character to your play style. The stealthy knife kills are pretty awesome. You can do a very decent amount of sneaking around, and if you have certain perks, you can press F and you will charge out and plunge your knife into them and eventually take out more than one enemy at a time this way. A big downside is this game is incredibly demanding. I can run it at a relatively smooth frame rate with the monster SLI setup I have, but I imagine it's going to cause mid-level and below cards to spontaneously combust if they attempt the higher settings. Of course, I have the settings jacked to 11 (although I turned down AA some, as I don't think it's needed), and you don't need to do that for the game to look nice. I'm somewhat irritated that TXAA wasn't included as an option. TXAA is supposed to be comparable to 8x MSAA or above at the cost of 2x MSAA if Nvidia and tech nerds of the interwebz are to believed. TXAA does look pretty damn good in Ubi's Assassin's Creed III, eliminating the crawling of the lower end AA techniques. If any game needed a more economical high end AA, it's Far Cry 3. If it's possible to add it, I want them to. I'm a bit surprised this hasn't caught the attention of animal rights activists, as you constantly kill various animals to increase the capacity of various pouches and holsters. The predators are quite aggressive. I was killed by a pack of fairly nasty Komodo dragons near the beginning of the game, which is not the way I'd want to go out. Sharks are more aggressive than Jaws. Also, I saw a damn manta ray swimming around. It startled me in a boat and I tried to shoot it, so it swam away into the depths. I'm not sure what it planned to do.
