What Games Have You Bought Recently?

  1. I bought Skyrim Dragonborn. Time to get back in it.

  2. Now with the 1.9 update you can make any skill that's at level 100 legendary. Basically it's like a call of duty prestige. The skill goes back to 15 and you get your perks back. This allows you to level way past the initial cap of 81. I've not done it yet. I worked hard to get my skills to 100 dammit.

No way am I resetting alchemy back to level 15, no chance.

  3. Still playing Breath of Fire IV. Getting near the end now so I need to collect all of the Dragon summons so I can control the Kaiser form. When this is done I can move on to Breath of Fire III and finish that off.

  4. Going through Far Cry Blood Dragon at the moment. I've enjoyed it - it's got a unique style and the soundtrack it has fits perfectly. I've not properly played FC3 so no idea how it compares.

  5. No No Kuni is significantly discounted on psn, I just got it and played an hour into the game. It is too early to judge it but first impression is ... impressive. A true grandchild of Wind Waker, I hope it sands up to the first impression.

  6. It's a good game indeed. The only pity I found with it was the lack of depth in its fighting mechanics and the punitive grind required to get all the trophies. There's no challenge to them, they're just massive time sinks.

  7. I wish I had that game. :(

  8. I picked up Metro: Last Light for PC (of course). I think we may have a new graphics king. Interestingly, it also seems to be reasonably well optimized (still demanding, mind you, but it uses very advanced technology), especially compared to the optimization mess the previous game was. Avoid the SSAA and possibly the PhysX effects, and you can probably run it with mostly maxed settings with a single GTX 6** card.

It also appears to be a better game overall, although there will be some who bitch about the changes (as always). It does seem to be somewhat less difficult compared to 2033, at least so far. The lighting system is pretty amazing, and you actually manipulate it for stealth pretty regularly from what I've seen in the first few hours. The most basic summary I would use to describe it is that it seems smoother and more refined. The storytelling is also less esoteric and more focused.

The few outdoor areas I've seen have looked incredible, although there is the problem that it utilizes post-processing effects pretty extensively and thus does not photograph particularly well. Thus, don't make too many judgments about the outdoor scenes I'm talking up until you see them at max settings and a decent resolution in motion. I've uploaded a few to my Steam account.

Here's a pic that demonstrates the level of detail in the textures and character models:

    And here's one more:

I'm finding to be a massive pain in the ass to capture a good action scene in photographs because so many areas are quite dark and set in underground tunnels. I'll have to make a video I guess.

  9. The graphics look good, the new post-process effects make the game look much more colourful and alive. But my main gripe remains: it just feels dated. The way the characters are animated, the clunky mechanics and interaction. The exact same way as STALKER. The first STALKER was good, because that kind of thing was still fine in 2005, but it quickly dated and the sequels made no improvements on the weakest aspects. Metro seems like it has suffered from the exact same problem, only, it is way less excusable now than during STALKERS heyday.

Maybe I'm wrong and all Eastern Europeans actually do behave like emotionless robots. All I can say is to me, the effects and lighting look great, but the world they are applied to negates the whole point of having good effects and lighting.

  10. A new list of purchases begins. Most recent buys are:

    Destiny (PS4)
    Raiden IV (PS3)
    Un Jammy Lammy (PS1)

Raiden's been surprisingly fun - a good vertical shooter that's worth it at a cheap price.

Destiny is a bit of a mixed bag. Has the potential to be great but feels quite Grundy and in need of more variety. Hopefully that will happen.

  11. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

    Downloading it now.

  12. @monsly Did you mean Um Jammer Lammy? The spiritual successor to Parappa The Rapper? I had the demos of those games and I really enjoyed them, never got the opportunity to play the full versions though.

  13. Yeah, that's the one. I'm mega shit at it.

  14. "Kick! Punch! It's all in the mind. If you wanna test me, I'm sure you'll find. The things I'll teach ya is sure to beat ya. But nevertheless you'll get a lesson from the teacher"

Legend of a game back then. Don't think I ever played that um Jammy Lammy though but Parapper the Rapper was great fun.

  15. I went on a buying spree over the past few weeks.

    Destiny
    Metro Redux
    Driveclub

All for my PS4. And I love all 3 of them. 8)

  16. I'm going to get Metro Redux 2033 when I see a good deal.

  17. Driveclub has a pretty stunning lighting engine. I played another session of today. I also have a BMW and a Maserati unlocked now, so I'll test faster cars soon. Even the "slow" starter cars seemed to give a pretty decent sense of speed, so I'm interested to experience driving even quicker cars.

  18. I bought FIFA15 yesterday, and seem to be on a sports game tear recently. I think it's mainly because the sports games have finally changed enough with the physics, graphics, and AI that they're worth checking out again. I basically skipped these types of games last gen, as they didn't really seem different enough vs. the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube generation.

  19. Shadow of Mordor

The fact that Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation actually liked it tipped me over the edge into buying it. I've never seen him recommend a bad game, and he hates almost everything.

  20. Try to stay off the radar in the beginning. There is no easy zone. If too many Uruks spot you at once the chiefs are going to pop up before you are ready for them. If you lose they'll only get stronger. They'll also gang up on you and it'll piss you off.
